Montreal, in addition to Winnipeg are the two I am aware of with a history of doing this. Buffalo too to some (limited) extent, lately, they've preferred to assign their guys to the AHL and they have a strong prospect crew there so they'd likely put Dvorsky there as well.

Arizona wouldn't as they would then have to pay Dvorsky, and they're very budget conscious, Ottawa has pushed for players to leave the NCAA to play in the CHL, but no European history. Vancouver leaves their guys in Europe, they've had great success that way, Detroit assigns to the AHL, Columbus is a big believer in the Euro system, but lately has pushed guys to leave the NCAA/Europe for the AHL, Philadelphia has used the AHL, Chicago as well.

That largely covers the basement teams, so the best hope is 100% Montreal.
IMO if the Wolves make the right moves early such as solidifying their OA's, a solid 19 year old pick up when the trade window opens. A signing such as Cleveland the drafting team will know that Sudbury would be the ideal situation for Dvorsky. No doubt Sudbury will be a favoured team to play into a long play off, he would make his world junior appearance, and the ability to play a huge role on a team lead by coach MacKenzie in North America may just be the right development for a long term NHL career. No sense in rushing him into the AHL. That to me would be putting his development trajectory into question IMO.

Feel like you have to start the season with Anania, Toure, McCallum and Larmand. They're all liable to get a suspension at one point or another so MacKenzie won't have to worry about finding a way to get them all in the lineup!
I only see Anania taking one of the OA spots all season. You don't find many shot blockers like him. He would be one of the leaders moving into the 2023-24 season.

McCallum could be dealt as he may have ran his time out in Sudbury with not maintaining composure when needed. Not sure if coach MacKenzie can trust him.

Larmand just killed any chances with his second half. In fact I don't think he plays in OHL and goes the school route if Sudbury does not keep him.

Boudreau is a good teammate by the looks of it. However I believe in order to make a run our OA's need to be some of our best players. He may have been told at his exit interview at seasons end that they would most likely try to find him a place to play or he too may be looking at University hockey.

Toure I'm not sure what to make of him. He has so much potential however I'm not sure if an overage spot should be used on him as we need to be much more experienced. And with Mania, Collins, Chromiak there and that doesn't include a lot of young d-men in our system it just seems like the Wolves would need to deal someone for Toure to stay. The defence IMO is the biggest concern for me moving into next season. After Anania and Collins there is a bit of a drop off in terms of solid defensive play. The young kids like Walton, Protz, Jackson and Bruce have to factor in the bottom 2 spots. The top four need to be Anaina, Collins, trade or signing, Mania. Then there is Chromiak and Toure! Bodies will have to be moved so the Wolves can round off a solid top 4.

Goaltending will have to be Krawchuk and Gaulton to start the year.

The import draft will be interesting to see what the Wolves get. Will it be a goalie? If so then the best would be deal Chromiak for that solid vet to play with Dvorsky!

Should be interesting to see how Papineau navigates this off season.

Hopefully Papineau has identified some early trade targets and pushes hard for them, whether it be during this June trade window or the August trade window before the season starts. Wolves got a first hand glimpse at a Championship team and true contender in Peterborough. What it will take to go deep into the playoffs and how many reinforcements it will require. There's never any guarantees come the playoffs, but follow the blueprint laid out by the Petes and go "all in" next season to give yourselves a great opportunity, and hope the stars align to go on a deep run. It's been long overdue.

I'm very high on where we can expect to finish this upcoming season. Anything lower than 4th in eastern conference in my opinion would be a disappointment.

Our needs as I see it:
1. Goaltending: We cannot go into the season with Krawchuck and Gaulton. Not enough experience there. Hope we pick someone in the import draft or an OA. Dom DeVincentis would be a dream, but I really don't think Paps has the guts to give up what's needed to get that deal done.
2. Offence: The playoffs showed us how one dimensional of a team we are. We cannot rely on having only one line produce. I think we're missing a 2nd line C that can produce consistently.
3. Defence: I personally think this is our strength at this point. Anania, Collins, Mania, Chromiak and Toure is a good starting group. Add in some of the youngsters we have in the system like Walton and Protz and we have a very good D to build off of.

As you guys may or may not already be in on Mitchell Martin, if it’s another OA you’re in the market for, you could do a lot worse than D-Simon Motew. He’s a Chicago area kid. The last Chicago area kid we sent your way, Charlie Dodero, I believe you were happy with. Motew is better.

Or, if it’s another OA forward, Matthew Sop should be a point a game or better next year. Spent his time among our top six last year, much of it on the top line.

Neither are big time elite OA’s but if you’re looking to save assets to use to bring in an elite ‘04 or two, one of these guys may be the way to go.

love Motew and Sop

Hot take of the day: Wolves three OA's to start next season Anania, Martin, and one of Gaudreau/Simpson in net. OA's McCallum and Toure traded for draft picks

Simpson will be packaged with McCoy, McCallum and picks back. McCallum Bros will wreak havoc in the O!

I doubt Braydon McCallum will be traded as he is only 17 years old and will be a key part of the Petes rebuild. He played in the conference final and OHL final and likely will play in the Memorial Cup if Jonathan Melee is not ready to play. Sudbury will not be able to acquire both Michael Simpson and Donavon McCoy for draft picks alone. It would likely cost them one of their first picks from the last two drafts, another young player and multiple draft picks.

My post wasn’t very clear, Wolves McCallum would be part of the package going back with substantial picks. That way McCallum Bros can play for the Pete’s.

I was thinking McCue & pick(s) for Simpson to bring him home and allow the brothers to play together :)
Just kidding, the Petes probably return more OAs than they can play and/or trade.

Gotta trade for Beck, Simpson and McCoy..no? Smith too if we can get him…
Empty the cupboard..
I doubt Sudbury has the players and draft picks to trade for all four. The price for Owen Beck is going to be likely a player drafted in the 1st round in 2023 and multiple draft picks including 2nd and 3rd round picks. Donovan McCoy will cost a good 17 year old player and multiple draft picks including 2nds and 3rds. Konner Smith is going to cost the same and Michael Simpson’s price will be a will be at least multiple picks if not a young player.

I would focus on Simpson and McCoy for now and re-evaluate at the deadline. Better to obtain your OA goalie sooner than later. May not need Beck if Devorsky reports…

I see Sarnia, Windsor, Kitchener, Pete’s, North Bay and Ottawa in need of players and or picks….this is where our focus should be when building out our roster.

Lately, 19 year old high end players bring the standard 2x2nds, 3x3rds at the deadline. Beck would be included in that group.

The only time a 16 year old is involved is if the receiving team didn’t have the picks to close the deal. We saw this in the Sarnia / Missy deal where Porter Martone and a 2nd went to Missy for Ethan Del Mastro.

What you’re asking for in your post is almost what you gave up to get him. I doubt you’re getting the same return for a player with a year less eligibility remaining in the league.

Any deal of Beck to Sudbury would likely be a picks only deal if the Wolves baulked at moving their 1st as they are flush with 2nds and 3rds.

I want a 1st pairing OA LD, maybe Punnet or Mayer to start the season. I don’t see NB as a trade partner for the wolves. I don’t think the battalion will be selling off anything to make the wolves better this season unless the battalion are awful late fall.

Beck cost the Petes a 1st-‘06(#6 VanVolsen), ‘04 born Desoete 2-2nds, 3rd, 4th. The Petes will get back an ‘06 or ‘07 1st and something like 2,3,3,4 imo.

You gave up Van Volson because you were getting 1.5 years of Owen Beck and you had a near empty draft pick cupboard.

If you’re expecting a ‘23 1st rounder for half a season of Beck you better target a contender with an empty draft pick cupboard.

A OHL champion with likely two WJC appearances for Canada that has lead the league in FO% since entering will probably be the most sought after forward.
