I'd seriously give Hemsky a call. I really want to see him hoist the cup with the Oilers
I do like how the club invites guys like this over for playoff games. Fan favourites and good soldiers of the team during shitty eras are part of the success as well. I eventually see him being inducted into the ring of honour.

I've said it before but a guy like Gagner as an example really deserves success here. Wish Hemsky could too.

lol. To older fans that saw alltime great Oilers clubs Hemsky was a footnote. He wouldn't even be on the 80's club. Hemsky was popular at the time here because the club at that time lacked superstars and Hemsky was like a lite dimestore version. Weight and Smyth, even Guerin, were better players. Cujo was the best.
For those of us who weren't around in the 80's, Hemsky and Weight were probably the most skilled players we saw in Oiler silks for like 20 years.

One thing I really noticed about this winning streak is not too many fan bases will give us any credit whatsoever. They say we haven’t beaten anyone legit. NYR and NJD B2B, Kings, Flyers, Leafs, Kraken. Before this we beat Vegas, Jets. Who else they want us to beat?
When we were losing , these fan bases really liked to shit on us
Like cmon, Toronto or Vancouver, until u win, I’d zip it. Vancouver will go out 1st Rd, book it. Maybe they burn city again

Usually I agree with most things you say. On this though I tend to disagree. Hemsky was an amazing player that was completely derailed by Regher and Boogard taking runs at him for years. A prime Hemsky with Connor or Leon is a hundred point player IMO.

100 % agreed. Hemmer was exciting, it will give him that. But those Oiler rosters were full of gritty hard working players who made anyone with skill look like an all timer. Dougie Weight was by far our best and most skilled player back in the day. Smitty had some skill, but his biggest traits were his work ethic and willingness to go anywhere to get things done.

I know stars are not a true measurement, sometimes I am baffled by the picks (Chicago, WTF???) but nice to see the spread across the win streak.

We go from 23 giveaways and a tie 1-1 game after 40 to only 3 give aways and a 4-1 score and only giving up 5 shots. When this team plays proper no one can beat them. They grew up.
That had to be the craziest turnaround in any game I've ever watched.
The Oilers looked like the AHL team playing an NHL squad for the first 2 periods then looked like a team on a 13 game winning streak in the 3rd. Incredible tbh.

Also crazy how, in years past, they would dial up the skill to try to come back. As a fan, it was always the basis of my hope in a close game. Now they just start playing simpler hockey with good energy to trigger turn arounds. Or to win in general.

It's because of our easy schedule that we've won 14 in a row. Any team would win 14 in a row with our schedule. - Flames fans
We have had a fairly favorable schedule the first half of this year but we had 2 back to back at the end of a 3 games in 4 nights on\ the road stretches during this streak.

Anytime you win those, you're doing something right & you get full marks from me.

The last 1/3 of the Oilers schedule is a nightmare.
If they dont trade for a legit 1B goalie there is no way Skinner wont be burned out by the time the playoffs arrive.

Don't forget that Campbell during the first half of 21-22 was the best goalie in the league. He had a .939 sv% through 25 games. If he had lost his way due to a debilitating injury, that's one thing. But there is a chance he can be a good again.

I look forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings in the goalie dept.

Dear gawd this stat sheet

I'm just gonna quote this for the posters who don't read the whole thread but go to the end of the thread the morning after for anything interesting.

I'm gonna go out on a limb & state there's never been a split in the history of the NHL that dramatically flipped in a win. Just crazy.

To each their own, I think it’s stupid and lame. I get what they’re trying to achieve but this seems like something you would see in timbits.
I think its pretty dumb too. Surely they can improve on that.

Or maybe really that rebuild era went sideways because Nugent Hopkins and Yakupov and really even Hall weren't good enough 1st overall pick players. Like RNH and Hall are decent players but they're not superstar/generational talents and Yakupov was a full on bust.

That was really more of the problem with that era.
They were fine as 1st overalls. The problem was not having the slightest clue on how to build a team. Every year it was just throw out the newest kid and hope they turn everything around.

I don't think they were nearly good enough to carry a team.

The difference between a Taylor Hall and even like getting an Auston Matthews (let alone a McDavid/Crosby) is massive.

Even if they put a bunch of vets around those guys, I don't think they would've been some kind of power house team in time. Hall, RNH simply aren't the level of player you need to carry a team year after year. Yakupov was obviously just a full on bust.

I think the argument, which I'm somewhat sympathetic to, is that with proper development they could have reached that level.
