Me too! SInce 1979. That great run we had got me hooked for life!
Same. I was 8 & understood nothing, but I do recall watching them win Game 1 in Montreal.

Of course it was hell growing up in Queens while the Isles went to the Finals the next 5 years. I still remember all those Drive for Five bumper stickers. Nobody in Edmonton rooted harder for the Oilers than I did in '84.

Elite thread title.

FATHER. FATHER. FATHER. FATHER.

The rafters await his jersey number …

Wonder if he’ll be a Rangers fan once he retires; I assume he grew up a Bs fan.

Even without getting any points, Lafreniere looks like a completely different player compared to the last few years.. The way he's carrying the puck through the NZ and in the OZ is night and day. He's not just trying to keep up, he's finally holding the puck and navigating around and trying to make things happen. He's skating noticeably smoother now with the puck on his stick this year too. There's way less "kid just happy to be here and content to be a support player" in his game this year, he's playing like he's a play driver on the team and he's going to lead. I really like what I've seen from him.

Kakko is doing the thing from his rookie year where he’s actively avoiding getting the puck in the neutral zone. When he does his legs turn to straight jello.

Negative confidence right now. Only comfortable in the corner with his back turned to everyone.
Hard to have confidence when in two strides he has a defender on his ass because of how slow he is. He’s never going to be a threat off the rush and he’s stapled to the boards far too often to be a producer in the NHL.

Assuming Chytil got whiplash - which i think he had in pre-season as well. No idea if the issue is neck or brain tho.

idno how chytil manages to get injured every 5 minutes...the guy avoids contact like the plague. maybe there's a lesson in there about being more likely to get injured when you play scared, but he hasn't learned it yet.

the fox injury sucks BIGTIME. would be disastrous if it's anything beyond 4-6 weeks.

that said, i think gus or jones can step in competently on the pp with a little time to practice there if needed. tonight was a tough spot for gus given how much chemistry has been developed btw fox/mika/panarin up top and how reliant they are on knowing where each other will always be. almost felt bad for gus trying to figure it out on the fly and fit in, but he's capable filling in short term. honestly would rather see jones get a look, he's phenomenal walking the line up top and could see him doing well there, which would be great for his confidence. plus his skating could actually add some juice to zone entries and movement in the zone.

i don't think aho meant to injure fox at all, but he's still a little btch boy dodging having to answer for it. i mean no one ever wants to injure someone. told me a lot about what he's made of seeing that.

needless to say, this was a huge win for this team gutting it out 2 men down against a very good team, especially considering one of those is our best player. this is the kind of win that goes a long way in spring time, and the kind of win that says a lot about what this team has in the locker room. at the end of the day it's 1 of 82 and 2 points, but this made a huge statement about the kind of team this is. incredibly impressive effort.

I’ve never gotten the impression that Chytil shies away from contact, if anything I think it’s the opposite. He just cannot seem avoid colliding with people in open ice.

On the other hand, Zib avoids contact more than Anne Frank and it contributes to his piss poor 5v5 ability

Ehhh Othmann is fine where he is, IMO. He's doing solid work in Hartford but nothing that screams "call me up!"
Yes. He needs some time down there. Or, at least, more time down there will be positive in the long run. I’m not making any changes with this team until after the homestand and the break and then like 8-10 games after that. Maybe early-mid December I think we can get a real gauge on the team.

I like visiting the boards of the teams we beat. Not to post. Just to read. Canes fans think they are in our heads. Uhhh, we own you. Love the Canes. Free points.
I had a look, saw the guy crowing about knocking out Fox, and left immediately. Sometimes I think this place is dopey but it’s way better than the other choices.
