It's pretty impressive when you think about it that we're gonna blow a 12 point mid-season division lead.

Pretty easy when the team that was down and out is now 16-4 and your team 8-10. One team is playing their best while the other is sucking balls and has forgot how to score. The Ducks feasted on the Canadian part of their trip score 16 goals in 3 games. The Kings in comparrision have scored 15 goals the entire trip, with 9 coming in one game and are 2-3-1

Meh. Kings are 9-9-2 since January. Not great. Not bad. Ducks are 18-4-2 since Christmas. Unsustainable. They aren't that good and the Kings aren't that bad. It levels out. The Kings were otherworldly early in the season and the Ducks were terrible. It evens out over time. No team in the Pacific os head and shoulders above another.

Ducks are peaking early. Hopefully the Kings will pick it back up in March.

Agreed. Imagine if the Kings were as bad now as the Ducks were to start the season? Well, if Kopitar is out for a while we might find out... :)

What on earth did Pearson do to get such little icetime in a game where we never had Gaborik and lost Kopitar?

Nolan was good, most of the d-men were good, Quick was awesome, forwards were mostly just stymied by Elliot. like the last one, I'm not really 'mad' at this game in isolation, but it's 2015 all over again--all the right stuff but the results. And at some point, that's going to matter again. 3 best defensive teams in a row, we didn't do much to break thru.

..and please tell me theres a gif somewhere of Toffoli and Doughty celebrating after the goal, that was hilarious  "****in right!" "woo!" one right after the other while bobbing their heads

Pearson must be nursing something. He's definitely a step slower since returning.

That third period! Whew, playoff intensity.

Something needs to be done about NHL Ref #6.

The one thing that keeps me from panicking is that our defense, which I thought needed upgrades, is actually not looking so bad. Besides the Islanders game, we're doing a decent job of keeping our goals against low on this trip. We're just not scoring, which is a better problem to have than a problem on d. I think it'll work itself out. Now the real question moving forward is Kopi's status...

What the hell did Pearson do to get in the Sutter doghouse? 8 min of icetime in an OT game? He had the game winner in NYC. Only AA played less, 6:30 mins.

Bones heal up pretty quick... then there's building the muscles that have atrophied, getting the muscles/tendons to stretch back out and general soreness that lasts for some time after. He could still be recovering or maybe just not fully back to game shape.

Great game... that ref needs to take a course in playoff hockey reffing. Solid kill on the 2 min 5v3....

When was the last time the Kings scored a 5v5 goal?

They scored a 5 on 5 goal against Boston at least.

As long as Kopi is not seriously hurt, they'll be fine. The boys have played well enough in 5 of these 6 games but just couldn't finish. This happens every season. The defense is playing better, which is a good sign. Championship level Kings teams turn it up over the last 20 games. Time to figure things out over the next 5 and get that finishing kick started.

Kings usually play solid hockey when a key player goes down (Quick going down in Buffalo immediately comes to mind). I'm hoping lower body injury is a generic description for something embarassing like a viral flu. Maybe some asshurt Rams fan poisoned his fish taco? :dunno:

Either way, the Kings will be fine. Who gives a **** about a division title? Kings are still 10 points above the fourth place Pacific team, 6 points above the the two wild card teams, and 8 points above the first team outside of the wild card. When the playoffs start, the only thing that matters is that the Kings are in the show. This team can beat any team, in any arena. Still a lot of hockey left. Really shows how remarkable of a start this team had to still be leading the division by a fair margin while playing .500 hockey for 2 months.

That's been my feeling as well. Ducks won't keep up this pace and the Kings will get their **** together eventually.

Just hoping Kopi is OK, dude is having an awesome season and would be a real shame to lose him. I think he finally wins the Selke this year.

PP goal for Toffoli against the Blues.
SH goal for Kopitar against the Caps.
Nothing against the Devils.
PP goal for Gaborik, 3v3 goal for Pearson, and 3 ES goals for Kopitar against the Rangers.
Lucic and Clifford with ES goals against the Islanders.

A long road trip. Played the top 3 teams in GA average in the last 3 games. 2 goals and none at ES in those 3 games. On the defensive end, they've only given up 2 ES goals in the last 3 games, but both were near the end of periods, although they were both against the best team in the league.

Lose Gaborik. We'll see with Kopitar. The Ducks are 14-3-1 in their last 18 games. The Sharks, 13-2-3. Kings, 8-8-2. At least the Coyotes are 8-8-2 as well, because that's about the only thing falling right for the Kings at the moment.

Muzzin clearly played way too much tonight... delay of game, when Schenn was already in the box for hooking after getting burned.... Muzzin's screen on the first goal was pretty good too.

'nuff said. :naughty:

Playing Doughty 35 mins in the regular season is amusing... keep it up Sutter see what happens by the time the playoffs roll around.

Does it bother anyone else that Sutter throws fits like this when he's not happy with his options? :) Man up bro. The better part is that this may be as good as it gets... Lombardi probably grabs a depth defender. Don't think he has the assets to go after a high end solution on D. It'll be interesting to see if Sutter will have a defense that he can be successful with come playoffs.

Lombadi's going to have to pull a couple of miracles off at the deadline... That's about the only game there is right now. Brown on the first line, Gabo out long term with a knee injury, Pearson not up to speed, playing Schenn 20 mins a night... There's a lot wrong right now.

More than anything, I'm semi-shocked McNabb got only 10 min. Probably a function of being w/McBain, but still.

But yeah, 35 minutes this far into a road trip is lol. All I can do with this team's fortunes at the moment is laugh. The play isn't matching the results and I know it will turn around; doesn't make the current trip less painful to watch. And we have to hope for some health too, everyone getting wrecked left and right.

I don't see this as bad luck....
Lucic/Kopitar
Carter/Toffoli
VL/Gaborik

These groups were functioning at a high level on 3 different lines. This puts pressure on teams depth pairings. Also the Kings are a threat to score for 60 minus the time the 4th line gets.

Another way of looking at it is teams are going to have so many breakdowns per game (better teams fewer). Are there guys that can bury a puck in position to capitalize or is someone with stone hands going to miss the chance.

With Gabo out the Kings are back to 2 lines that are a threat... most decent teams have two good pairings to match up with those lines. Add to that Brown/King/Lewis sprinkled throughout those lines and you get 0 5v5 goals in 3 games.

Just look at Lewis tonight with VL... there were some good opportunities that were "close"... but we know that Lewis just isn't going to convert on those. It isn't bad luck.

Unfortunately with Gabo out, Pearson not up to speed, King may still be getting in form after being out with a broken foot.... there just isn't a lot that can be done. Offense is going to be thin and the defense isn't like in the past where it will make up for the lack of scoring.

Regardless of whether you come from atop the division standings or from the bottom, the same rules apply: get your BS out of the way in the regular season so you peak at the right time, and make the playoffs. This team should have taught everyone here by now that these are the only things that matter.

When watch Kopitar final shift, while circling around and then going off the ice, it seems like his legs are laboring a bit. Possibly tweaking a groin or something!! My guess!

Was an entertaining physical game. I like low scoring games where there are plenty of shots on goals.
Quick definitely tried to steal one.
