Really, because I'm in the camp that very few people ever remain static.

Oh I think people can change ... it just takes a life changing moment for that to happen usually. I'm definitely not the same person I was when I was 18.

Not to get into a aioehfaoijkfweiofja debate but you can change a lot in all sorts of different ways but there are some aspects to a person that are more changeable than others. People can change as a result of their environment changing and adapt to that environment but lots of the same values stay intact.

I think for NY it's high risk / high reward ... talent wise ... HUGE upside ... high risk being ... well he could be a clubhouse and PR nightmare.

the kid has been immature and reckless,
some of that atitude he probaly learned in locker rooms,
but i am expecting the leaders in the locker room will work to set him straight
and he's got to be tired of getting attention for being an ass, and know that the on-ice Officials know who he is
huge opportunity to rewrite his story, going forward, to be about his PLAY, not about acting out

A fair question to ask is...

We all agree Stepan was a huge and important part of the NYR team for many years, and will be almost impossible to replace.

But what is his ceiling exactly? Is he liable to do any better than be a 50-55 point guy for the rest of his 6.5 million contract?

Say we role reverse, and NYR just dealt a high draft pick for Paul Stastny 2 years ago. Would we be thrilled about landing a 1B?
I don't think he is impossible to replace. His defense and Pk will be missed. Like you said he is a 50-55 point C which is nice but not a top Center. He is not good on the powerplay, he cant win afceoffs, and he is probably the only guy who might lose to taylor pyatt in a race lol. Look I'm not trying to bash stepan he was very good for us and is a good two way player but for his flws and contract it was probably a good move to get value now. We desperately needed to restock the farm. We also needed more help on the blueline especially someone who can bring offense

Wait, what did DeAngelo do, exactly?

Suspended for abuse of officials in both NHL and Juniors. Suspended in Juniors for homophobic/racist comments. Accused of cheap shots in Tampa Bay during training camp IIRC.

The Rangers aren't clueless. If we know about the character issues so do they. They clearly feel they can work with the kid.

My concern is the gaping hole in our roster. I know many of you are different but prospect don't wet my whistle.

They don't for me either ... specifically because we aren't in a rebuild mode ... maybe a transition mode ... but not a complete rebuild. Can we improve the team enough to challenge Pittsburgh is the main question?

Yes, I look at it as he will be given a clean slate in NY. And that's apparently on top of being a class act in Arizona. So it's all up to DeAngelo. Hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity.

Or they might just say **** this guy , and he can go play in Europe with the rest of the scrubs.

Also people can change because of a life changing experience. It happens often. Kids are idiots, do dumb things, one day they come across someone that impacts them and makes them see things differently ... it's both environment and introspective.

I am beginning to feel the same way. If the Rangers were hoping Stepan would take that next step and be a 65 point RH C and he hasn't shown it, they may feel that this is it.

Homophobic slurs.

Which happen in almost every mens league game I've been a part of. I can just imagine what is said in the NHL

McIlrath and Panarin were throwing huge hits in Rangers camp. No one called them 'dirty'

Leave it to the Rangers to
Stockpile 1 st rounder in one of the worst drafts in a long time.

no one has traded a 2018 first yet and they won't. What if Stepan has a bad season next year. Raanta is free agent and would want 2-3 million.

It had to be done now. Deangelo still has high potential.

I used to be a racist, sexist and an abrasive homophobe 10 years ago and I still am today so I'm fine with it as long as he performs and doesn't become a distraction.

Yup. They learn that at 40 yelling at the TV about "when they made state."

Your problem is that you are discriminatory. I dislike everyone.

Certainly easier to get those picks in a weaker draft. It's not a coincidence.

Just hope this pick is flipped. Please.
I'm sorry but the whole "weaker draft" thing is getting a big overreaction. Sure there isn't a McDavid or Matthews in this draft but there is talent especially where we would be picking. also I'm tired of throwing away every first or 2nd rund pick we have because it hasnt worked in the 5 years we have been doing it

sure, that can be true as well. Just depends on your level of cynicism. I personally don't like to give anyone the benefit of the doubt and I love condemning people so.

Is there a site with mug shot or head shot pictures of the prospects in the 1st round in one place? Really hoping we draft a good looking one today.
