Everybody usually loves their team before the tournament starts. I'm no exception to that as I think I have a good team selected. However, the one guy that I had buyer's remorse on immediately was Lawson Crouse. I bought into all the hype about putting him on the top line and then no sooner than the first pre-tourney game was played, you could see he didn't belong with the elite skill guys. How the hell did the coaching staff get through all those practices without seeing what the rest of us noticed in one period of play?! I'm sure he'll still pick up some points but definitely should have been more of a mid round pick.

I also wanted to comment on the goalies. Even fewer established starters than usual, which has lead to both guys from all the major powers getting picked, as compared to the keepers from the mid range team like the Czechs, Slovaks, and Swiss. The coach's goalie decision is going to have a huge factor in this pool.

I hear you there. I got Crouse in one of my other pools, But figured he was a steal for the 4th or 5th round, now I am regretting it as well, haha.

I agree that goalies will be the biggest factor this tourny as we all have goalies splitting games. The only goalie I had on my list for a for sure starter was Vitek, but wasnt sure if he would win more games than a good teams goalie that is splitting games.

so yeah, good thing I didn't pick Soderstrom :sarcasm:
I'm in two pools this year and my goalies are Soderstrom and McDonald. I figured if this game actually counted I was going to get a least two points for a win from one of them. I came pretty damn close to getting nothing as the win almost went to Kallgren! But more importantly, this doesn't exactly set either of those guys up well for the tourney. What was the final score, 16-15?

that happened to me the other day in my NHL pool. Bishop and Holtby playing each other, Holtby gave up 3 early and was pulled. Washington game back to win

You guys are ridiculous; you're all latching on to the hope that you've got a chance but in reality you know that my team is probably going to win. Reason Smurff had to back out was he knew I was coming back for another season. Truth is, the first year I went in completely blind (Statsy knows this), last year I ran into a couple of hitches but I really lost with my Czech goalie. This year, I'm organized, understand what's needed in the pool and drafted strong. Good luck on second place!

Nice.

Now you can replace Sebastian Aho. Good luck.

Yes, Tom. The real key is year to year momentum!

I just looked at the scoring summary from the Canada/Sweden game and cringed. There were 13 goals scored, yet they awarded a grand total of 6 assists. I know there were some rightfully unassisted efforts in the game, but to only give out 6 of a possible 26 assists is just downright brutal. :shakehead

The arena announced assists that weren't on the scoring summary. Whoever was doing that just made it up as they were going along, or fell asleep and missed a bunch of stuff. I wouldn't pay any attention to it.

Okay, I feel better then. Perhaps the guy doing the data entry was the same guy they had stringing the nets.

I can add to the current knowledge base on Masin by stating that the Czechs have now done all their cuts...except for the fact that they are still carrying an extra defenseman. What that tells us is that they don't really know either and are just trying to wait it out as long as possible to see if he's in good enough shape to play. Now we play the waiting game!

I've just added the player numbers to your individual team roster tables to help you follow along with your pool picks. I have everyone except Pastrnak (who isn't yet on the Czech roster and hasn't been assigned a number), and the replacement for Aho, which is still forthcoming.

OK dropping Aho and picking up Ollas Mattsson D - Sweden

Question: No Sandstrom for Sweden is he a switch too? If so, I guess I'll take van Pottelberghe Swiss
Yes, as Huffman mentioned Sandstrom is still with the team. He missed the Canada game due to illness. He probably got even more sick watching both teams in that game try to play defense.

lol, Tomsburninghat can't catch a break. He will need to replace also Guryanov, he was cut today from team Russia.
