Morning/Afternoon everyone,

So are we only waiting for Panthers last pick and then we do a redraft for those who have been dropped? Statsy, please send the schedule moving forward. I'm itching to replace Merkley (still saddens me he didn't make the team).

We're only a few days away

Correct. We might as well start the redraft right after the final pick and then just replace as other cuts/injuries happen.

The draft is now complete, and so we turn our attention to the compensation picks.

To my understanding, the injuries/cuts so far include:

Nick Merkley
David Pastrnak (Potentially)

Anybody else I missed? This list may grow as the pre-tournament games continue.

For now Tomsburninghat may make his replacement pick for Merkley.

So, the latest update from the Bruins on Pastrnak is that they MAY release him after the NHL roster freeze ends... on Dec 28th. Selfish ********!

It's your call whether you want to replace him or not, C4G. He probably misses two games, but he could definitely do some damage in the remainder of the tourney.

Is there any chance I could conditionally replace him? If he goes I get him for the tournament, if they decide not to release him then I get someone else that I pick now?

That's what I gonna do for Lehner in my pool.

I don't get any advantage since I only get 1 player, actually if he does go then I'm disadvantaged since he misses some games.

I would say... no. That's the gamble you take.

If someone I pick gets injured in the Boxing Day game, I don't get to replace him.

true dat. I was just thinking if that that happened your player was actually on the submitted 23 man roster and played, whereas the Czechs could leave a spot for Pastrnak but if he doesn't go he's never on the roster. Would be akin to someone getting hurt in a pre-tournament game and that team leaving a spot open for them but then they decide 3 days in yeah he's not gonna be healthy enough.

But I understand the other side of it as well. If I can't replace do that then I'll wait. Providence plays tomorrow maybe they might hint at one decision or another.

Hmmm... Interesting. While your proposal makes sense, the thing I keep coming back to is that the name of the game here is gambling. That's what we're here for. There isn't a lot of certainty involved with any of this. But as information is still coming in, I will say that you should have the option to make the switch up to the first game, as with any player that gets hurt in the pre-tourney games.

My feeling is that unless he has a setback, he's getting the go ahead to come over. It's one thing to string along a team prior to the competition, but quite another to tell them to hold a spot open, and THEN not release the guy. Even the Bruins can't be that nasty, can they? Can they???

I agree, You have up until the first Tournament game to swap out an injured or cut or missing player, if you not your stuck with them for the rest of the tournament

Agreed. To be honest, we'll all watch some of the preliminary games and see poor playing time, bad play and more and we'll want to change our picks. One of the things I like about the pool is you do "gamble" on your players and if they don't make the team or get hurt before the 26th then you can change but other than that you'll have to be stuck with that promising 16 or 17 year old you wanted to take a chance on...

Just realized that I've replaced a guy who won this pool three times in a row. Well, my players better be damn good! I feel like the first place is already lost for me, also because I came a bit late to the draft. But who knows!

Anyway, so who has the best team?

You never know! I'm pretty sure BPS was skipped once or twice last year for running the clock, and he still won again. On the last day. Putting me down to 2nd. :(

But I have to say, I love my team on paper this year! But then again, I did last year too.

Only returning player I had on my team last year that I got this year is Meier, and he was one of the best on my team last year. I hope he can at least do the same this year!

Everybody usually loves their team before the tournament starts. I'm no exception to that as I think I have a good team selected. However, the one guy that I had buyer's remorse on immediately was Lawson Crouse. I bought into all the hype about putting him on the top line and then no sooner than the first pre-tourney game was played, you could see he didn't belong with the elite skill guys. How the hell did the coaching staff get through all those practices without seeing what the rest of us noticed in one period of play?! I'm sure he'll still pick up some points but definitely should have been more of a mid round pick.

I also wanted to comment on the goalies. Even fewer established starters than usual, which has lead to both guys from all the major powers getting picked, as compared to the keepers from the mid range team like the Czechs, Slovaks, and Swiss. The coach's goalie decision is going to have a huge factor in this pool.

Only got one real elite prospect on my team (Marner). Picked guys who will play with star players and also see a lot of PP-time on good teams. Got myself a very Sweden-Finland heavy team, not too familiar with the other teams.

My team in this draft actually ended up with a heavy Canadian influence this year. Usually I don't get that many, but thanks to the European flavour of our draft group, it meant there was more euros taken and more Canadians left for me. :) I have to say I really dig the internationality (did I make that word up?) of these boards. It's very cool to have that different perspective on this great game of hockey.
