If you love Bethesda Games ( like me ) you're beyond excited right now.

If you don't I doubt this moves the needle for you.

This is what BGS has been building towards since....forever?

Hope they take all the time they need, delay it more if needed. Can't FO76 this.
Not.. really. They didn’t even show how dialogue works or any part of the story. Bethesda games weren’t about resource gathering until fallout 4.

Really excited for this. It's the lone reason I bought an Xbox along with the PS5 if I'm being honest. Really hope it delivers, but tbh I think it will even if it'll be buggy as hell. The features they showed in this video though just made me all the more excited

I guess there's hype for this now because the video has over 1,6 million views.

Game would be wayyyyyy too overwhelming for me at this stage in my life haha. I’d probably get bored/lose interest after 15-20 hours and at that point would probably only be 2% done of the game.

Now my 13 year old self would have been DYING for this game.

I feel this game falls into the trap of trying to be too big for the sake of being big sacrificing a more cohesive experience. There was a time where i trusted Bethesda completely but that time has passed and i will be keeping and eye out but not have my hopes up.

Kinda where I'm at. I'll no doubt be playing it day one but a combination of No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous has tempered my expectations quite a bit.

It is an interesting case study in how many times Todd Howard can lie about his product and still have people jump to pre order. Anything that comes out of his mouth is in one ear out the other. Will wait and see what the game looks like post launch.

Yeah pre-ordering is not needed anymore.

It should be noted Fallout 76 was not a Bethesda Studios game, that came from one of their smaller studios in Texas. They’ve been working on this game for at least 7 years.

I would think we see more today during the second xbox show.

I'm not a graphics whore by any stretch but the character models and smoke effects look rough, the environments look great though. Would be cool if the gravity on some planents would make human adventuring nonlivable so you'd have to use your robot to look around before making a habitat for you to come down to.

What did he even say that they didn't show video proof of? Maybe the whole 1000 planets thing but judging by the reaction it seems like people would prefer if that wasn't real lol

So the Bethesda guy said in the interview on the extended showcase stream that you can steal a ship by killing all of it's crew members.

It's about time that Bethesda embraced piracy.

Todd Howard just did an interview with IGN. Some of the main points…

- They’ll do a deep dive in the future about the size and scope. There’s a lot of procedural generation but that’s been a part of their games like Skyrim as well. He did say they will make it obvious which planets have more to do and which are for mining, etc.
- They have done more hand crafting, content wise, than they have for any prior games In terms of dialogue so that as you explore, you find things.
- You can dock and disable other ships, smuggle items, steal ships.
- New Atlantis is biggest city they’ve built. Four major cities in total.
- The main quest is a little bit longer than their previous games. Not counting side stuff. Think he said around 40 hours for main quest alone.
- does say this game is a dream for their modding community
- Elder Scrolls 6 in pre-production and Fallout 5 after that.

Video is probably somewhere in here:

People shouldn't pre-order any games
I don't get why people do. I still support my local mom and pop store, and they pretty much will sell me whatever I want they day it arrives in store (and usually after reviews have dropped). Plus, in the digital era, there is no worries of a product shortage. Outside of limited edition, I can't think of the last game where it was impossible to get a physical copy outside of elaborate limited editions for collectors. I think the only game I pre-ordered in the past decade was Hades for PS5 because I had a gift card and wanted to avoid taxes on digital sales, plus unless they somehow seriously botched the port that game had multiple GOTY nominations on Switch and PC.

There are still mom and pop video game stores? Don’t think i’ve seen one anywhere near me in decades.

No idea where you live, but I assume most fairly large cities have them (I'm in Toronto). This new-gen of digital-only consoles/gamepass might be the final deathblow, and it's almost impossible for them to get any stock on 9th-gen consoles. They mostly survive off of repairs, the retro market, and the fact they've been around in an area for like 30 years so have serious loyalty. I know of a few in my city, but many tend to heavily lean into repairs, used games, and the retro market.

I’m just outside NYC, literally there are none. Everything is big chains(walmarts, gamestops etc)

True, I'm sure Manhatten has to have some equivalents (just googling I saw a few). They are definitely a dying breed, and they tend to heavily focus on the retro collector marker and collectables. I have no idea what exists in my cities respective suburbs on this regard. But, there's always a place for certain vintage collectable stores such as comic books, vinyl, etc in any large market. Vintage gaming is sort of staying in that market while carrying current products.

Maybe someone can catch me up on this, but why does Bethesda have such a bad reputation online? What has Todd Howard done to earn a reputation for being untrustworthy?

Genuinely asking. I’ve only played Skyrim and Obliviom from BGS and both were masterpieces. When he said lines like “see that mountain over there? You can climb it”, he was telling the truth from what I could tell. Clearly I missed a lot with Fallout the past few years.

I’d be surprised if anything he said in that Starfield video was an outright lie. I just wouldn’t expect 1,000 earth-sized planets or anything.

He's exaggerated things in the past, like the AI in Oblivion, the number of endings in Fallout 3 or the economy in Skyrim. I think his reputation as some kind of liar is a little unfair, it's not likes he's Peter Molyneux, but he has misled his fans from time to time.

I wouldn't say they Bethesda has a bad reputation, more that it's mixed. I think there's a few reasons for that:
  • How buggy their games are
  • The disaster that was Fallout 76
  • The way their games have been generally been getting dumbed down with each new entry
  • They were one of the studios that got the ball rolling with microtransactions in Oblivion
  • Their paid mods plan for Skyrim was not well received
