It looks like No Man's Sky meets The Outer Worlds meets Fallout 4 meets Cyberpunk 2077. That's about what I was hoping for: No Man's Sky with a full-fledged RPG experience once you're on a planet.

Looked great on the big screen tv. Sadly, my rig isn't capable of 4k. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade by the time it releases. That said, I see myself spending way too much time on building outposts and ships

I keep seeing the No Man’s Sky comparison….now I kinda wanna try No Man’s Sky as it was always passed over by me

I can see the modding community sustaining this game for years with 1000+ planets to explore, base, item, and ship crafting, etc.
It’s Ridiculous they have hundreds of planets they can mod on

if only they didn’t need to be in a certain order

I can't believe Bethesda faces and combat still look that bad in 2022.

It's worth checking out while you wait, especially if what grabs you about Starfield is the idea of visiting strange planets, entering their atmospheres, landing anywhere on them and collecting resources to upgrade your ship. That's pretty much the gameplay loop of No Man's Sky, with the addition of base building. It's very grindy, but addictive. The devs have also released frequent updates that sound like they've made big improvements to every part of the game, though I haven't returned to the game since most of them were released. I'm curious to see how much better it is now, since it was already pretty good when I last played it. Also, it brought my PC to its knees 5 years ago, so I'd like to make it bow before my current hardware. :D

It was never coming out this year. It's probably still at least 3 years away. I think that it's on the back burner until Starfield is released and, then, Bethesda will transfer a lot of the people working on Starfield over to it and really ramp up development.
And then we’ll be lucky to get Fallout 5 sometime this decade. Can’t Bethesda get multiple teams working on multiple projects? Why does it have to be one game at a time?

recently got Xbox Series X and I barely play my PS5 now. was really looking forward to this game. I hope the wait is worth it.
also is Elder Scrolls 6 coming out this year still?
GTA VI will be out before Elder Scolls 6. Those will both be likely mid-gen games.

I'm sure that they are expanding now that they have Microsoft's checkbook behind them, but creating new studios or even creating new teams within established studios tends to come with hiccups such as what has happened with Perfect Dark and Fable. Wasn't Fallout 76 made primarily by Bethesda Austin, and was able to use a ton of assets Bethesda had from Fallout 4.

I think that the issue is Todd Howard. He seemingly wants to direct all of the company's big franchise titles, himself. He directed Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4 and, now, Starfield. I bet that he intends to direct The Elder Scrolls VI, as well, but he can't do that until Starfield is done, so we have to wait another 3-4 years. He'll likely want to direct Fallout 5, himself, as well, so that probably won't be out this decade, as DuncanMacpherson said. I think that he needs to be less selfish and permit others to direct "his" franchises while he's busy. It's not fair to make the fans wait 10-15 years for a sequel just because you insist on directing it, yourself.

1000 planets is neat, especially for modders...but if they said 20 I'd be more confident that they'd be interesting and worth exploring. I don't think you can make 1000 worthwhile planets.

Ship design looks neat, I hope there's some sort of Mako type vehicle for getting around on the surface.

I don’t think the expectation is 1,000 planets with lots of things to do. I imagine some are purely for materials, etc.

Right, which will make them uninteresting to explore, unless they've managed to come up with an incredible procedurally generated content system. Things like animals and foliage will start to feel less and less unique and alien after each one you visit.

Also curious to see how they handle planet diversity. I assume they'll go with Star Wars style single biome planets, which is less realistic but I think it makes planets more interesting and distinct.

My guess is that there'll be a dozen or so relatively hand-crafted planets that the story and quests will take you to, have all of the cities and are interesting to explore. Players who are into stories and unique content and simply use their quest log to guide them won't have any reason to go to any other planets. Then, there'll be hundreds of procedurally generated planets that are optional and can be visited to farm for resources (whether natural or from cookie cutter enemy outposts). Players who are more interested in a sandbox experience and making their own stories and aren't in a hurry to complete quests can go off of the beaten path and visit those. That's my guess.

If you love Bethesda Games ( like me ) you're beyond excited right now.

If you don't I doubt this moves the needle for you.

This is what BGS has been building towards since....forever?

Hope they take all the time they need, delay it more if needed. Can't FO76 this.

Aside from Skyrim I’m not a huge Bethesda Games fan but that video 100% moves the needle for me

The graphics being absolute s*** aren't causing as much of a commotion as expected, but I'm guessing it's because people just expected it with fallout 4s graphics being sub par when it came out too. The graphics are actually better than I expected to be honest.
