Word of mouth will bring up viewership. Andor is clearly the best Star Wars product since probably Empire. I wouldn't worry right now about viewership. I talked to several of my friends who didn't even realize it started (game of thrones/ Lord of the rings). Check back in 6 months.

With the introduction of Space Scots, It looks like the Star Wars universe will have a region of the galaxy for every accent in the English language.

Bill Burr suggests a planet of Massholes. I imagine a Coruscant, except covered by Dunkin's.

This series just keeps getting better. The pain on Mon Mothma's face when she realized what had been set in motion, and that Luthen's heist would bring pain to the people she was trying to protect. Yet, she regains her resolve, and ultimately knows that Luthen wasn't lying, and works to continue furthering the cause. The continued cutthroat nature of the ISB both serving to sharpen the blades of its workers, but also see them clash with one another as often as their desired targets.

Both ends of Luthen's plan come to pass in Cassian's story. Cassian seeing how his actions have brought paint to those he loves, and even the acts he commits to try and buy his way out of trouble (the robbery at Aldhani) ends up triggering a resolve in Maarva that will leave her in danger. And then obviously at the end of the episode he gets wrapped up in the increased Imperial tyranny. (We also get a Clem backstory)

Special shout out to the Imperial Bureau of Standards. I know it was portrayed as a dystopian workplace panopticon, but as engineer I appreciate the fine work they're doing. Keep on keeping on! :biglaugh:

We also get Space Miami.

I completely missed that the head ISB guy in this episode was Yularen from TCW. I should have known with that mustache.

Almost forgot to mention - noticed a rare almost mistake in this episode.

During Clea's (Luthen's assistant) conversation with Vel, there's a shot where Clea is talking but the camera is still fixed on Vel's face. The audio changes enough to make it clear it was recorded separately. More importantly, the line is something like "Cassian Andor, who you know as Clem." I'm almost positive the original dialogue probably just referring to him as Cassian, and then someone later caught that it would be a continuity error and they had to edit in new dialogue using the name Clem (which is the only thing Vel knew him by).

I liked the episode until the weird last 5 minutes.
I enjoyed the scene at the party, when Mon Mothma was carefully soliciting aid from her old friend. It was amusing that they were both concerned that their politics were too extreme for the other.

The ISB supervisor calling out the other and having it backfire gave me a good laugh. It's interesting that we're being encouraged to like and root for an Imperial. I wonder if she's going to "turn" at some point, like finally track down Cassian, only to let him go.

Fiona Shaw (Cassian's mother) was excellent, IMO.

I wonder if being jailed for doing nothing is going to be what finally makes Cassian mad and stand up to the Empire instead of running from it.

Significant shift in tone for episode 7. Sneaky Coruscant backroom dealings and political power games was something I wasn't sure I wanted to see again in SW but this series is making it much more captivating than the prequels. I am enjoying seeing the Rebellion begin to take shape, glad that that is a major focus for this show because following just Andor around would just be a more broody Mando without Grogu and the suit.

The Niamos scenes.. just a little goofy maybe. Not super well executed and needed more attention. Felt kind of cartoonish considering in the same episode there was a scene of Cassian walking past his father figure hanging dead in the town square. Did leave a decent cliffhanger I guess, now there are all sorts of people who want to track him down and surely someone succeeds in the next episode.
Also not sure where they're going with Syril's character, seems like a dead end but perhaps they can write their way out of it.

I've always figured every Imperial Officer of note having a British accent was meant to draw comparisons to the American Revolutionary War. I wonder which is canonically the Floridian system 🤔

Lucas has confirmed as much.

They should have a woman from the Minnesota planet as Syril's new boss when he went on his spiel about clearing his name.

"Oh Yah? Let's just change that application eh?"

That's impossible. None of the guy the stormtroopers were arresting were shirtless and in cut offs.

Very telling that Andor's sentence was six years, considering we know about something happening in five.

I figure:

Andor's prison sentence will tip him of to Vel looking to close off that loose end and Syril looking to redeem himself, which will result in Andor's prison break.

So interesting seeing the minutia of the Empire, the bureaucracy and also the day to day lives of how people live in these massive buildings in some planets compared to the more sparsely populated planets we often see with frontier type towns.

Surprisingly watchable. It matches the tone of the better parts of Rogue One and you can almost forget at times that it's a Star Wars vehicle (well, that droid is one dreadful reminder).

Still had a few bugs, but nothing major like, why take the time to tie up the officer when you kill all of his men with explosives anyway? Also, I guess Andor was lying with the "I've been in this fight since I was 6 years old" in R1... Unless we're supposed to believe he is 6 when he flies away from his home planet - and anyway, he doesn't do much rebellion and looks like he's being recruited at the end of episode 3, so maybe he meant since I was 26 years old... . I'm sure some nerd can explain all this anyway!
Looks like they got out of it by making him a liar (the you were in as a cook and didn't fight that war thing). He also says he joined the war straight out of prison, but when locked up in Rogue One, he says it's a first for him. I don't know how much of it is calculated or will be exploited, but an unreliable main character can be an interesting narrative device. He's certainly a more interesting and complex character than Mando or what they made Bobba Fett to be.
And now he's going to jail, again? It makes for a weird character. If it's calculated, it's brilliant, but it needs to be used somehow.

Cyril's Uncle Harlo sounds like Jonah Ryan's Uncle Jeff from Veep. They should get Peter MacNichol to play him too. "Back to the outer rim world your nitwit mother found you on, you shaved wookie!”

Agreed. Hopefully they deliver on that, but spies probably are liars. His job is to say whatever it takes to get his mark to do what he needs them to do. I also enjoy an unreliable narrator, so it could be fun if used in an interesting way.

Really enjoying this series, not surprised it's not landing with some, but I can't get enough of it. Love that Mon Mothma outright says her husband is not to be trusted. Wonder if that's because he's an idiot, or he is miffed that MM is a dogooder

So episode 6 going back to the original theme of technology vs nature wasn’t Star Wars?

I think it's more the sense that this show is not fun. Originally, I used that as a bit of a criticism, but I've backed off of that. It's a good story with interesting characters and good themes. It is absolutely quality television but fun, it is not. For a lot of people, that aspect is a fundamental part of what makes Star Wars what it is.

Despite being a far superior show in nearly every aspect of TV storytelling craft, I don't think I like it more than Book of Boba Fett for this reason. Probably not less either. BoBF was stupid as hell, but I enjoyed myself while watching it in a different, but equal, way.

That’s fair. If that’s what you’re looking for, I can’t argue that. This is more of a darker Star Wars.

Sad, but also somewhat expected to be honest. Should have junked BOBF and rolled with this.

Andor’s Audience Demand Is Lowest Of All Star Wars Shows, Study Reveals

Part of it is that 99% of people don't know what "Andor" is referring to.

Even without seeing them, you know what "Obi Wan", "Book of Boba Fett", "Clone Wars", "Rebels", and "Solo" are going to be about. If you're interested in the backstory on those characters, you're going to want to watch.

Even "The Mandalorian", "The Bad Batch", and "Rogue One" you can more or less get a read on the show without knowing what the title refers to. At most, the title plus a thumbnail image will seal the deal for anyone who likes stories about mercenary helmeted dudes.

But Andor isn't a familiar name to most viewers -- even those who saw/enjoyed the movie -- and so you're already behind the eight-ball with respect to viewer interest. The current thumbnail is just a photo of Cassian Andor, who is not an iconic character. Even someone who saw and enjoyed "Rogue One" doesn't necessarily take away a whole lot of energy to find out about his backstory.

Speaking for myself, I came very close to not even looking into the premise of this show or considering it for my watch list. Only a random opportunity and a spur-of-the-moment choice led me to watch the first episode, which I enjoyed enough to blast through the rest of the series.
