standing pat is a non-starter. been musing over who we might add and wondering if a sibling from Flint might be heading north.

they do have a strong d core albeit some youth that could use a neckbeard upgrade.
oh i agree, i was poking fun. they have one of the best d groups in the ohl, top 3/5.

Well, wrapping up the pre-Christmas stretch with 3-in-4 and some tough teams lined up. North Bay, Kitchener, and Guelph. Most teams missing players for World Juniors and we are no different (Allard and Karki away). Post game on Saturday Dean said that D'Intino won't make the trip due to injury, and they were awaiting word on Bryce as to whether or not he could go.

If Bryce can't go, our centre depth might suddenly be tested even more than we anticipated. We will be down to dressing 11 F - 6 D unless there is a call-up. Aside from Bryce and Allard, our natural centres are Brown (17), Vader (17) and Martin (16). D'Intino (injured) would probably be the player most likely to slot in there if we needed someone. So what to do? Do we go with three young centres or does someone else move over there? Sirizzotti has played some centre on the fourth line, but I'm not sure he's the answer higher up the lineup.

Hopefully Bryce will be good to make the trip, but if not it could certainly be interesting.

Management is clearly going to add to this group. They were never selling this year anyway, but the stand pat option has to also be off the table now. They better not half ass it. We have lots of good young prospects. They all better not be here after the deadline or heads should roll. Protecting the '25-'26 contending window is NOT priority # 1.
I will be the first to admit, i didn't think this team had it in them. Standing pat is not an option. but neither is a half assed deadline.

one thing i have been adamant about, essentially since the thompson trade, is if we are going to go all in, go all in. i will be really disappointed if we don't use every remaining 2nd, 3rd and 4th needed, as well as Brown and maybe Kostov for trade bait.

i think Virgilio is going to be a really good player down the road but I would understand if he was used to bring in an Owen Beck. but not just for a depth neck beard.

Sell Gibby next year to recoup assets.

what do you guys see them adding? goalies seem to be the biggest issue as far as i can see. top 3 defence group but 9th in the league on goals against?

that's a tough one. before 3 weeks ago i'd say a goalie was the most important piece. but Charlie has strung together a really strong stretch the last bit. But can he continue that?

realistically i'd say we need 2 more scoring forwards and a big, solid defenceman. i'd like to try to get beck and smith from peterborough (for a realistic package, not what some fans want haha). depending on what we have left, another solid forward.

all IMO.

I'd like to see a top 6 forward and a top 4 defense.

charlie didn't have a great start to the season but has been much stronger the last month. to illustrate that, just a few weeks ago he was the 18th or 19th ranked goalie and he has quickly climbed into the top 10. i also believe our style of play lends itself to higher quality chances against although i don't have any advanced stats to support that assertion.

furthermore, who is out there that would be an upgrade? Dom is struggling and I want nothing to do with that.

lastly i don't believe we should be spending limited assets on a goalie as it will prevent us from being in on top tier forwards/defense at the deadline.

We are actually 6th in goals against as we have played a couple more games. Sort by GAA and we jump a fair margin ahead of OS, PBO, OSH, LDN.

Also take a look at the 5 teams ahead of us for this stat. Guelph and Ottawa are the envy of the league for GAA, but not for GFA. They sacrifice a lot of their offense to prevent goals. I don't think that's a place that the Greyhounds want to go. KIT & MISS are also ahead of us, but there is nobody on the market that I am aware of that could compete with their starters. And Saginaw is the last team ahead of us, but only ever so slightly. I think even if we made an addition between the pipes, we would be hard pressed to get into the top 5 of this category.

A top 6 scoring winger and a little more experience on the blueline would help if we make a push deep into the playoffs. That would solidify our top two lines. I like how our 3rd line has come together (Clattenburg - Brown - Virgilio) but our fourth line lacks any kind of identity IMO. So some kind of a depth addition at forward is probably needed as well.

It's definitely do-able and it's not the biggest wishlist out there. Probably could do it only sending one younger player back the other way. But don't half ass it Raftis.

i dont know what would be available on the goaltender end anyways. mayach and stonehouse would be perfect but i dont know if they are on the market. not sure that the soo can afford beck/smith from the soo either.

am i wrong to suggest that sirizzati is a guy you can upgrade from? i think sharpe from mississauga would be a perfect d for the soo.

i'd be willing to upgrade sirizzoti but only if he was moved out as part of the deal with a small sweetener.

i think if we include brown and virgilio and a couple of 2nds and 3rds we could get beck and smith. maybe? haha

iif not, i'd try to get kressler and hayes and include sirrizotti going the other way.

saginaw and sudbury can offer 07s that have better numbers then brown. you could get them for martin without a doubt but that would be stupid.

Who? Taylor and Young don't have better numbers? You could argue more upside sure. Did you mean 06s? Sudbury has a couple that I am sure would interest the Petes, but I doubt they want to move Villeneuve.

never would i trade martin. he's going to be one of the top, if not the top 07 in the future.

but brown has 10 points with basically 3rd and 4th line time. on a rebuilding team that he may get more minutes, he would probably produce at a higher pace. all speculation though.

i agree with Pops one post up.

all this talk could be for naught anyway if anyone invokes their NTC

Wait, was it offside, or were there too many men? I can't remember which is the current complaint?

FWIW, I’d do this from a Petes fan perspective.
