I guess both Charlie and Landon's play going into the Christmas break will determine if we revisit the goalie situation come trade deadline. The way I see it, if we trade for a goalie, it won't be simply straight up for one, it'd be a package deal involving a d-man or a forward including a goalie coming our way, we don't have the assets to make separate deals...if Dom from NB is the target, than Nelson or Romani I think are coming our way too

I don’t think NB are sellers, but for Martin and picks I think DiVincentiis & Nelson can be had.
Moving Romani would not make much sense for NB

I'd like to see Martin with clattenburg and cloutier. He and cloutier played well together in the preseason.

No way I'd trade him tho. He's going to be too valuable in the future.

If we can't get stuff done with brown, kostov and picks I wouldn't. Virgilio has been playing really good the last few weeks and I'd hate to send him if we didn't have to. I realize we have to give to get tho.

Of all the possible additions we could make, I think a top 6 winger is the most important. I can see a scenario where we don't add a D. I can see a scenario where we don't add a G. But I can't see a scenario where we don't add a top 6 forward.

Trading Virgilio would require us to make a second addition to plug that newly created hole on D. It might make sense to go that route if we think the added experience gained from a vet blueliner moves the needle.

Certainly offering up Virgilio opens the door to a lot of better possible additions that might not go for just picks. And trading Virgilio might not hurt us as much as we might think, even though he is playing great, with the likes of Brodie, Evans, Solomon, Gillen ready to take over next year.

Ultimately though I have a hard time believing that this team is only one player away from a championship. And I'm not sure Brown or Kostov move the needle enough to get the players we need. That's why I think Virgilio has to at least be discussed.

get ready for a surprise today.

Not trade related

Wasn’t Virgilio NCAA bound before he flipped to the Hounds? He’d almost certainly have a gold package/NTC.

Ya the same NTC that Aiden Young has. lol

The positive for us is that Matthew Virgilio is from Vaughn so moving him away from the Sault would almost always guarantee being closer to family,IF there’s even a gold package involved, IF the stories about Virgilio and his “decommitment” are true, he may not have a gold package.

It’s not an unusual thing to happened, at all.

He’s not in the top 4 this year and is usually on the bottom pairing, lately. I said early on that I don’t think Hounds have Virgilio in their top 4. It’s Gibson Karki Kirill and whoever we add, in my opinion. Move out Virgilio, bring up Evans or BMB who look like they’ve been playing for years lol

Yes, certainly comes up in both cases. One group though (1st round 16 years olds) tends to get moved more often than another (Mid round flyers that decommit to chose the OHL).

Not saying Soo can't swing a deal, just saying it would probably be easier to offer up Evans instead.

It could , for sure.
Not sure the value is comparable just because Virgilio plays every game, and is 100% proven in the league. I don’t want to trade Evans, as a fan I’m more comfortable with Virgilio haha

But as they say, you gotta give to get.

I forget from time to time that virgilio is still only 17. Realistically, imo, he's much better at 17 than Carlisle was at 17. If we were to include him in a trade for a big fish, I'm good. But if we include him in a trade for a depth 19 year old, I'd rather keep him and let him develop here and have a sick d corps moving forward

The Soo
just came to make the same post HP.

i'm pleasantly surprised he got the invite. he's got to be one of the best 2-way forwards in the OHL but is likely under-rated/lesser known by OHL fans. he'd make a great addition to the bottom 6 if he makes the cut.

Having multiple Greyhounds on the junior team has been the norm for decades. It's nice to see the team back on track in that regard after a bit of a down stretch.

I think it's a great thing for the Greyhounds that Allard is going to selection camp. Obviously, it's a great experience for Owen and will only help the Greyhounds when he returns. But I think it's a great opportunity for Raftis to evaluate what this team still needs to contend, with a key forward out of the lineup. Let's see what the rest of this team can do in his absence.

Agree, Allard is very deserving for an invite in the bottom 6 , a PK and puck hound energy role. I believe he can excel in that role. Congrats Owen!!

Also would expect Karki to make Finland, this would also open up the opportunity to call up Solomon and get him into some games and see how he is developing. I'm sure if he does well it would make it easier to move a Virgillio if that was the cost to add a good piece down the stretch. I'm keeping Martin no matter what and would not move him. Good opportunity for Evans, Brodie, Virgillio to get important minutes if Karki gone which could increase or hinder trade value. On a side note I see Solomon just turned 16 yesterday which seems crazy as I thought he was very strong physically and showed good composure when he played in camp and Ex games, this is exciting for such a young player, almost like an extra 2024 OHL pick in the system already.
