saginaw is the favourite on paper so that's not a surprise. but the series will ultimately be decided on the ice.
I've watched both teams all year. I see Saginaw as a better and deeper roster but so was Windsor last year. That's why they play the games. Picking Saginaw is because they see Saginaw with the better odds to win. It's going to come down to who wants it more.

Interesting take. I think most would see the Greyhounds as a far deeper roster. All of the success we've had this year was from feasting on their bottom 6. Saginaw has mich better high end talent in my opinion.

Forwards 10,11,12 for each team, sorted by pts per game

Soo
Martin .54
Brown .47
Fantino .38

Saginaw
Hay .36
Sima .30
Castle .29

Both have impressive scoring depth, but the scales tilt in favour of the Soo.

I don't know that I've seen a forward get roasted as bad as Ethan Hay this year. There were prime scoring chances every single time he stepped on the ice. The same goes for Josh Glavin, but he has been bumped off of their playoff roster.

Hopefully Beck is back soon. He is a huge part of this team.

Much has been said about Christopher Brown's performance this playoffs after being elevated to second line duties for the injured Beck. He certainly did not look out of place at all.

For me though a bigger problem than our new L2 is our new L3. Moving Brown up to L2 means our L3 is now Cloutier - D'Intino - Fantino. This line doesn't really have anyone on it with the vision to distribute the puck and really press as cohesive unit. Don't get me wrong, what D'Intino did in the first round was very impressive. But if we can move Brown back down to L3 all of a sudden that whole line becomes a whole lot more dangerous.

We got by Guelph without needing that. I'm not sure we get by Saginaw without it though. Depth scoring will likely be the decider in this series.

Agreed and I will stand by the depth of our team any day of the week. I think we are the deeper team.

For the price Hay cost, you'd think he'd be a 1st or 2nd liner though
Hay is an 05, provides some toughness and is a great faceoff guy. He will likely be the 2nd line center next season and we could certainly ship him out to a contender who needs a similar skillset to what we're using him for and recoup some of the picks. If he was an 04 it would be a lot but he has one, if not two more years left in the OHL.

That was one of the strangest trades that I have seen in recent memory.

I don't entirely disagree with DonJohnson that they will be able to recoup assets, but for a similar price, they could have netted a true impact player like Gavin Hayes (or someone of that ilk), which makes a lot more sense in a hosting season.

A similar price? Gavin Hayes is a rental that cost an '05, '06 and 4 picks. Ethan Hay was essentially 4 picks and could play 2 more years for us.

I'm not a huge Ethan Hay fan but he is filling a role for us...he plays with grit and wins faceoffs...that's something we needed for sure

questions which will go a long way in who wins the series.
expect a physical series, :
will the hounds forwards be able to get to the net with the physical punishment they
will receive, and can the saginaw D keep the hounds to the outside without running into
penalty trouble ?
will the hounds capatalize on the power play when they get there opportunities ?
will schenkel outplay oke ?

Guelph I know helped prepare the Hounds for alot of this, their play style is very defensive and physical and Hounds managed to find a way

You have to consider what round and year the picks are in rather than just the number.

Hayes got a 2027 Greyhounds second, which would be about the least valuable 2nd rounder in the game. You probably couldn't even get a 2024 3rd for it.They also gave up a 3,4, and 5, none of them this season. Clattenburg and Kostov have value as high as a 2nd rounder each. Everyone will have their own opinion.

Saginaw gave up a valuable 2024 2nd (Owen Sound just dealt a future 2nd and 4th for London's later pick). They also gave up an additional 2024 3rd round pick from North Bay along with another future 2nd and 3rd, as well as other picks.

It's honestly a little deceptive, but Hay actually garnered a massive price. A lot of people were surprised by that deal.

Your last point will decide most of the games, as it certainly did in 6 of our 7 matchups where both teams tried.

let's get this done in 5 or 6. i don't want to have to listen to Dennis Derosiers any more than I have to. lol

We get a 2-1, Oke makes a great save. They get a 2-1 and Schenkel doesn't. That's the game in a nutshell so far.

We knew to expect extreme ref bias due to the presence of Hache and playing the hosts and that has certainly played out but we've done a nice job staying out of penalty trouble.

There's nothing between these two teams other than in the crease. Gavin Hayes has been especially dominant, giving us an advantage at even strength. I'm unsure why they don't put Beck on him more. I guess Lazary feels that Beck's like against Martin's line gives a bigger advantage.

Really weak third goal on a mediocre chance. You absolutely have to go with Miller next game. At least he's shown that he can step up in big situations.

weird that it's always the goalies fault in fish's eyes... all that bragging about our offensive depth this afternoon, here we sit with no goals and somehow it's still schenkels fault?

the 3rd goal was weak.
but it doesn't matter who's in net if you can't score.

if this series goes south for the soo the homers are going to get real nasty.

Charlie saved the first 17 shots he faced. And over 90% of the shots all game. A good recipe to give your team a good chance to win.
Unfortunately for us, Oke saved the first 39 shots and will be the star of the game. Time to reset, and forget game 1. An opportunity to come home with the split presents itself on Saturday.

It doesn’t matter how many times you post this, it’s not gonna make it true. Ethan had 0g 2a, and was E +/- this year against the Soo while wearing a Spirit uni. He also was better than 50% at the dot. Maybe you’re confusing him with Owen Allard who had 0g 2a and was -6 vs the Spirit this year.
