Greyhounds played well, but need to simplify their cycle game. When we cycle in the offensive zone just get it to the point and shoot with traffic.

Schenkels numbers were pretty good and he made some great saves, but those two pucks that leaked through him are back breakers.

It doesn’t matter how many times you post this, it’s not gonna make it true. Ethan had 0g 2a, and was E +/- this year against the Soo while wearing a Spirit uni. He also was better than 50% at the dot. Maybe you’re confusing him with Owen Allard who had 0g 2a and was -6 vs the Spirit this year.
+/- is an antiquated stat that has never really been useful. Hay made a pair of horrendous turnovers that lead to breakaways tonight, but Oke bailed him out. Watch the game, they absolutely feasted on him.

40 shots without a full powerplay is really impressive. We're really not having any trouble getting chances.

Frasca was trying to get in a disrupt Oke, but took an absolute beating from Hache. There were half a dozen absolutely vicious slashes on him that went uncalled for obvious reasons.

Good games from the young guys Brown, T. Hayes, and Martin. I think you can fairly say that they outplayed Saginaw's elite top line. Karki and some of the vet forwards like Cloutier and Mignosa were invisible.

Hopefully we can get the other lines rolling. Bmbs line was good, frasca is a bit too slow imo for that line though. Was a half second behind them. Martin's line again was really good. Crazy that he and Hayes are only 16.

2nd and 3rd lines were non-existent. Mignosa has been a ghost since his return from injury. We need him in mid season form.

Hopefully they can get it together Saturday.

Frasca took a couple of vicious two handed baseball bat style slashes to the legs from Hache. He's probably really feeling it in the legs. I think he's the key to solving Oke if they'll ever decide to officiate the game fairly.

Coach Dean on the cowardly play that we regularly see from a couple of Spirit players. Others have noted it in this forum.

Dean added that “a lot of their older guys target our younger guys.”

“It’s a really interesting situation,” Dean added. “There’s no protection for our younger guys at all. It’s pretty obvious that that’s the guys that they want to go at.”

It's even more impressive that Brown Martin, and Hayes did so well. They could have drawn several penalties if their jersey had some blue in it.

Will the shenanigans at the end of the game have any impact on who is available for game 2?

Is leaving the bench an automatic suspension? I believe it is, but who was the player?

My thoughts on the game.
I'd like to say Charlie played well, but he did let 2 bad goals in. So I can't. Oke was better.
Hounds need better/more net pressure/presence in O zone. Saggy Big Dmen won the batlle.
A loss is sometimes a great wake-up & motivator. Let's hope so.
Hounds did well to kill all the 1st period penalties.

Heading down 75 tomorrow to catch game 2. Hoping for a big push back. from the Red & White.

hounds need to score to win, oke did outplay schenkel, schenkel would like 2 have 2 goals back, but
on the other hand schenkel made a number of saves where saginaw should have scored on
as well. The hounds need to create more grade A scoring chances, didn't see too many of
those. They definitely need Jack Beck back in this series for them to have a fighting chance.

Beck would definitely help. No doubt.

But when you are facing a hot goalie you need to take away the goalie's eyes. Traffic in front. Perhaps our best chance all game was in the 3rd period on a point shot from the blue line, with Kudryavtsev in the slot and tipped it on net with another player (Frasca?) battling directly in front of the goalie. Oke came up with the loose puck in front that time, but more of those kinds of plays can only benefit the Hounds.

At home, we'll be able to get Frasca out against the Dionicio and Bishop pairing, which should allow him to camp out in front. They'll have to find another solution for game 2, however.

I wouldn't expect big changes though. We outshot them 36-28 at even strength on the road and definitely out chanced them, which is a recipe for success. There's nothing we can do about the extraordinarily biased officiating, so just keep playing our game and staying out of stuff.

It has to be more than just Frasca. Traffic by committee. Need more willingness to get into the dirty areas, even if it means taking a few whacks for your efforts.

Brady Martin was trying his best. Took a lot of slashes and got dumped a few times, but I agree with you that more players need to do the same.

we've seen similar games all year. we put lots of perimeter shots on the net with nobody paying the price out front. as good as Oke was, we contributed to making him look good IMO.

greasy goals win championships.

and you can't blame our goaltending. a goalies job isn't to stop every puck, it's to give your team a chance to win. 3 goals in 35 shots gave us a shot. even if he stops the "softies" we lose 1-0 when the offense is MIA.

blaming schenkel, the officiating, or that we got "goalied" is just plain whining at this point in the season. this is the playoffs, the time for excuses are over.

let's hope Beck's return is imminent and we can steal one on the road tomorrow.

How the box has it now on the CHL site.

It would appear that Mr. Hache surreptitiously removed the penalty so that the automatic suspension will no longer apply.

Well as per the rule book the rule states the person that leaves the bench will receive a 2 minute minor AND a game misconduct. That looks like Owen Beck to me.

It just doesn’t say leaving the bench anymore.

@Fischhaber

Not edited. It’s still on the website and text version. It was Beck.

huge loss for saggy if the league is consistent for once.

walking back an on-ice call to prevent a Beck suspension might start a riot in the Soo.
