Hunter Solomon and at times this season so was Keegan Gillen

Hounds just posted a photo with Waterloo in the Soo Greyhounds dressing room yesterday. They all had suits on except for Hunter. Hunter was rocking Soo Greyhound gear.

Is it Saturday yet? I just wanna get to Saginaw hehe
Hunter has been here since early this week. not sure if he made the trip with his old Waterloo Wolves team or not, but he's been at every game this week with Martin. Seeing as he's signed, he porobably had the opportunity to hang out with the team and practice as well. My son sat in front of him at game 4 and chatted with him and his dad. both are very, very excited for next season to start. can't wait to see him in the red and white.

Jeez, I think we keep Cloutier and Mignosa. They are going to be very good OAs the following year to go along with our 06s.

I would say Gibson, Schenkel, Allard, Carlisle are all trade bait.
same. no way i trade Cloutier and Mignosa. They'll be way to valuable as OA's. probably two of the better ones in the league.

IMO, gibby, shenkle and Allard for sure. for some reason, i think Carlisle will be more beneficial here to steady the young d core. but if we had to trade him for assets, i'd do it.

Is it Thursday yet? What a long wait for this fan. Two very good teams gonna battle. It's unfortunate 1 of these teams will not be advancing. Both these teams can score goals. First goalie to make the first 10-12 saves will give their team an advantage. I can't wait for tomorrow night.
To be fair, both teams can still advance, Hounds win, Saginaw is still in the MC 😅

Bizarre quote from the article
Yeah seems a touch petty. Like he was offended he didn't get to talk with Lazary. We don't get much from these interviews anyway. It's 99% coach speak. I wouldn't blame Dean if he did the same thing. Unless the reporter truly has some valuable info to pass along, these types of articles are just fluff pieces to get people hyped.

How is it petty? It’s a pretty neutral quote. He’s just telling us about his lack of availability for media. I have a feeling that’s not what @HockeyPops was talking about, but I could be wrong

Dean almost did do the same thing!
Asked about the things the Spirit does so well, Dean said he prefers to focus on the Hounds game.

Peter Ruicci is a pretty well respected sports reporter who is pretty well connected. Something must have rubbed him the wrong way for him to put that in there. It's just all around bizarre.

He's a Soo writer. No one would have thought twice if he didn't mention that Lazary didn't talk to him. They probably wouldn't have cared. As Pops said, for him to specifically include that point is a bit odd. Nothing major though.

it could be a number of reasons : saginaw coach limiting media availability.
just speculating but peter ruicci may have reached out to local products :
caleb mangone & Lincoln Moore for comment on the series , perhaps this is
where Lazary put restrictions on media availability.

I think the upcoming drafts will shed some light on what Raftis is planning.
If he picks a defenseman in the first two rounds then it's quite possible he will be open to moving both Gibson and Carlisle. This is assuming that we start the year with:
Carlisle
Gibson
Virgilio
Evans
BMB2
Solomon
one more defenseman from a past draft (Gillen?)
*new defensemen drafted top 2 rounds 2024*

Similarly, he could draft a defenseman in the IMPORT draft in July. This would likely also mean he doesn't intend to play the second half of the year with Gibson or Carlisle. As I have said before, I think this is a very likely scenario with the successes that Raftis has had drafting defensemen in the IMPORT draft.

Of course, if we don't start the year with 8 defensemen on the roster, then it will be hard to move both Gibson and Carlisle. Not impossible (could get young d back for Gibson, and could swap Carlisle for a less impactful OA D). But it does tie his hands somewhat in terms of what kind of return he would be willing to accept in these deals.

Do we need to steady this D group next year? Let's look at what Raftis did in 2022-2023 season:
Thompson 20
Kudryavtsev 18
Carlisle 18
Toms 18
Van De Ven 18
Gibson 17
Virgilio 16

Compare to what our D would look like next year after trade deadline:
NEW OA exchanged for Carlisle 20
Virgilio 18
Evans 18
BMB2 18
Solomon 17
Gillen 17
Young D either drafted top 2 rounds or traded for Gibson 17/16

I think Evans is more polished and well rounded at this time. I see some Carlisle like abilities in Evans as well. As for BMB2 I see some offensive potential and once he gains more confidence in his own zone he should be good. I heard Hunter Solomon is practicing with the team since last week. Can anyone confirm?

I think our D looks solid moving into next year with 5 returning D if we include Carlisle. I'm hoping Kyle Raftis drafts some good forwards with our first 2 picks and also lands 2 import forwards. We lose D'Intino, Frasca, Beck as expiring OAs. Hayes, BMB, Karki and Kudryavtsev likely turn pro. So we will lose alot of offense. Could possibly trade potential OAs Schenkel and Dezoette if any takers.

I'd like to see Carlisle, Fantino and Allard as out OAs next year. Thoughts on lineup below for 2024/2025. Rebuilding year and alot of offense lost. I have penciled in 07 draft picks Solomon, Smith and Gillen plus U18 pick Tegelaar.

Fantino Allard Mignosa
Cloutier Martin Hayes
Import Brown Import
08 Vader B. Smith
FA/08

Gibson Carlisle
Virgillio Evans
Solomon BMB2
Gillen

Miller
Tegelaar

Look out Saginaw, the boys are ready to go!!
I'm not yet convinced that Fantino is a better OA option than DeZoete. I've been really impressed with the latter's play since he arrived.

I think if you are keeping an OA forward, you don't want them playing down the lineup. I love DeZoete on the 3rd/4th shutdown line this playoff run, but next season with a younger team I think Fantino with his added skill has a better shot of playing up the lineup than DeZoete.

Then again, maybe your top 6/7 is already filled without either of them. Allard, Cloutier, Mignosa, Brown, Martin, Hayes T., IMPORT.

I would love to see a Jordan Smith clone, we need that kind of grit and presence on back end after Gibby graduates. Did some digging and found out Solomon joined the Soo down in Guelph last week and practiced and came back on bus with the team after game 4. Guelph is his hometown so makes sense.

I can't wait for Thursday night, should be a phenomenal series and I see us winning in 6 or 7. Predict a big series from Schenkel. I really hope we get Jack Beck back and healthy for game 1, he could be the difference in a long series. Go Hounds Go!!
