It’s crazy to think the Hounds are 2-11 in extra session hockey this season! No other team is close in this regard. Even if they had won 5 of those that would be putting them in the 5th or 6th position well ahead of Guelph for that lazy P/O spot. I believe 2 OT losses to Flint in those 4 point games! Fun to play the “if” game

So what does everyone think is left on our shopping list before the trade deadline comes? This is very reminiscent of the 2015-2016 team that also shipped a veteran to Barrie for picks and rolled into the playoffs with an extremely young group.

I'm pretty happy with the defensive and goaltending depth and I don't think there's much to sell or buy there.

For forwards, I would put Mark Duarte out there and see if a team wants to give us some picks in an OA exchange. Barrie North Bay, and Saginaw could consider him an upgrade on their current OA forwards.

I also wouldn't be opposed to a change of scenery trade for a disappointing forward like Justin Cloutier or Marco Mignosa. Maybe we can move them to a better situation and get a player back who can flourish in our system.

Lastly, I think we need to add a middle 6 forward for our playoff push. Something similar to the Sirizzotti trade would be ideal. There are always players who get squeezed out of a roster spot and become available. I've seen enough of Moses and Ballard. Ballard has amazing skill, but it hasn't translated, while Moses just isn't OHL calibre.

I know that some will suggest a full tank, but we're going for the Memorial Cup, so it's really just a silly idea. We absolutely need to make the playoffs and get experience if success next year is the goal.

Hope we see a lot of 5 on 5 hockey today. Knights are one of the most penalized teams in the Conference, and in a recent home and home with Sarnia, Sarnia posters noted that the Sting were the beneficiary of some one-sided officiating.

Nothing. There is absolutely ZERO reason to spend assets to make a move for a playoff push, in fact I would rather we miss the playoffs and stand a chance at the #1 pick in the draft.

it's comical that when fans feel the knights are being favoured by the league that's "conspiracy theory" but when the knights are heavily penalized it's one-sided officiating. if they are the most heavily penalized team in the conference it is likely because they are one of the dirtiest teams in the conference no?

you can't have it both ways!

Ballard sent to Saint John Sea Dogs (last place in QMJHL), per Elite Prospects.

Must have cleared waivers.

only thing i agree with here is change of scenery for mignosa. maybe cloutier as well but definitely mignosa.

i think the #1 overall pick can walk in next year and be better than 85% of our forwards so that is definitely enticing.

i have yet to see this amazing skill that ballard possesses. i'm okay with finishing with our current oa's. they seem to be really good with the younger guys and that is worth it to me to keep them.

You don't just get the #1 pick for finishing in 9th, it's only a 25% chance that you even get it and maybe another 25% chance that they have a big impact next season.

The last 8 first overall picks have only averaged 17 goals in their first year. It's not like someone stepping in and putting up 30+ is normal. For the #4 pick, the average rookie year is 10 goals.

This team isn't getting a Memorial Cup or even succeeding if they don't taste some success this year and get that playoff experience. It's infinitely more valuable than moving a couple of places in the draft. Winning teams make winning players, you see it in every sport.

overage deadline is today at 12 noon.
wonder if any of our overagers will be dealt, thompson, watson or duarte.
i could see a team being interested in duarte ? who
i could also see watson being sent to his hometown of peteborough.

I don't know if any of the Hounds OA's are improvements over what contenders already have for OA's. Maybe the Pete's look to upgrade on Spearing but he is their captain isn't he? If Windsor can find another goalie then maybe Onuska.
As for selling anyone else off, maybe D'Intino would draw some interest or Ivanov.

it's a weighted lottery. last place team has a 40% chance of 1st pick. not 25%

and the first pick will walk in and produce. probably the second as well.

you have your views, everyone else has theirs.

Focusing on goals only isn't ideal. Assists mean someone scored too. From Levin to Misa (his current pace), first overall picks have averaged 0.87 points per game. In a 68 game season that's 59 points. A 50 point player injected into the line up is worth infinitely more that getting swept in round one.

The biggest issue has probably been his unwillingness to sell off core pieces in down years. If he were willing to sell, it would help in 2 ways; 1) he would be more willing empty the cupboards when contending, knowing that through a restock he could build them back up, and 2) he would have more assets available to buy with when he did want to add.

I don't really have a problem with Raftis wanting to add when he feels the group deserves it. But he needs to be equally willing to sell.

Actually, the Savard deal shocked the heck out of me because that is exactly the type of deal that Raftis has been unwilling to make in the past. The biggest piece we have sold (at least since 2015) other than Raaymakers who asked out when he lost the starting job so I dont count him. Maybe Raftis is starting to realize he needs to do more of that.

i really liked Hookey's game the last month. his footwork has improved immensely and his hands are surprisingly good for a bigger guy. and he will always stand up for teammates in the rough stuff. not gonna lie, i dont know much about fantino but i'm not particularily happy with this trade lol.

Fantino has all the tools, he's got a wicked shot, skates well.

He had 4 goals in last years playoffs. He was the choice for shootouts.

They've tried him up and down the lineup. If he can get his act together, he could slot into 2nd or 3rd line . Hopefully the Soo will help him concentrate on hockey.

For a big guy, Hookey doesn't really use his size. But his hands are decent and his speed is decent. There is definitely something there.
Would he be a decent 3rd liner ?

Seems like a strange trade. Both the same birthyear and both the same position. Doesn't seem like a hockey trade. Maybe one of them asked for a trade?

He’ll score a lot for you…….in the pre season.
