No kidding. I almost did a spit take about the color guy suggesting that Gio Stanton coming into spring in "great shape" as if he'll be a difference maker and hasn't been awful for 5 years.
Yankees discussing expecting a big season from a perennially injured and ineffective mid-30's DH:

Apparently Gerrit Cole is salty about how slow Vogelbach rounded the bases after his HR and promises to remember it.

Maybe don't groove a hittiable pick over the plate then, bud?

And then maybe don't be a little bitch about it.

Vogelbach should make the team just for this.

Was still hoping we would bring him back but I guess we have IKF now...

I’m not disappointed we didn’t give him that deal. It’s 1 year if he plays well and 3 if he doesn’t.
He is a pretty poor hitter at this point in his career and the defensive part of his game he builds all his value off is showing real signs of slipping.

Yeah Atkins can go pound sand. Total clusterf*** of an off-season.

18 mil AAV for Chapman when it was reported he was looking for about 25 mil AAV and 100 mil is a steal. At the very least you bring him back for the 1 year and try and go for it. Bo and Vladdy aren’t going to be cheap in a year or 2 Atkins is making this team worse! Nobody can defend Atkins with a straight face. This whole off season is a disaster.

Either Turner or IKF are our starting 3B…. Yeah I’m so excited for this season…

What if he declines further. Then you are stuck paying him for 3 years. If he bounces back and plays well you only get him for the one year.

It’s better than what we currently have. We decided to pay KK and Chad Greene as much as it would take to bring back Chapman. If the budget was this tight why are we paying Greene 10.5 million this year? Doesn’t make any sense

He turned down the qualifying offer which was that one year salary. No other team offered him anything better. He overplayed his hand. Be as mad as you want but this is all on Boras and his clients should be absolutely pissed.

Everything is awesome! This team is going all the way to the World Series this year. Everyone will finally recognize Shapiro and Atkins' genius.

Who even says he would've accepted that from the Blue Jays? Who's to say he wouldn't have demanded more to return? I can't imagine he would be too enthused to continue playing on the turf when he's getting older, more banged up, and his D is potentially declining.

Even though I didn’t want him returning, that is a great deal for the Giants. I’m fairly confident the Jays were not presented with the same opportunity. The Jays would have needed to pay at least 23-24 m next year to beat that.

If Chapman would have taken this deal from Toronto earlier, it would have happened.

Instead, he demanded 6x25 and the Jays made other plans.

The money isn't there today for a 20m guy. Basically, the floor is that ikf plays 3rd where nothing about his deal prevents someone else from stealing the spot.

Wow at Chapman and his 3 year - 54 million deal. That's a big L on Boras again after Bellinger signed for what he did.

You love to see GMs not fall for this.

Nothing like yelling about things you have no idea about. No one except the Jays and Chapman know what it would have taken for him to sign here. He was absolute trash outside the first month of the season.

Chapman stunk at the plate after April last year. He was a big reason the offense was shit last year with all the untimely strikeouts and useless at bats. I'm glad to move on and give those at bats to younger players to see what they are capable of. It wouldn't shock me to see Davis Schneider or Orelvis Martinez put up better offensive seasons this year (nevermind following two seasons).

Chapman on one year deal would've been liveable but the player options are not attractive at all when you have some big financial decisions to make next winter. We really need to be all over Soto if he hits the market and we need to think about extensions to core guys.

Agreed. A guy like Jansen should have been extended already.

Not a fan of Chapman's but his defense will be missed. The off-season hasn't been great but games are played on the field.

If they want to contend for a playoff spot I think they need to add a bat ASAP.
