This documentary on Nimmala just answered my question about whether it was done before he was drafted or after. Because I kept wondering why he was giving out a Mets jersey or there were no references to the Blue Jays.

It'd be cool for a follow-up of him going back now that he's drafted and seeing if it leads to a particular explosion of Blue Jays popularity among Indian baseball fans.
It has just from what I've seen.

Similarly when Kadri (not Indian but I know it made an impact on a lot of people) was playing for the Leafs, and before that when Malhotra played.

Mitch White hit 98mph in todays start.

Did something similar in the previous outing.

Is there some untapped potential still there?

Maybe? He was apparently absolutely lights out at the end of the year in Buffalo last year. He's also out of options so maybe he makes the team as the long man/emergency starter in the pen. Hell, if starting doesn't work out his stuff could play up well in the pen.

So far the actual starters have looked good, except Manoah. I'm not sure if Gausman pitched yet?

Also Vladdy seems to be practicing the belly flop slide to 2nd base again. He would have been out had he not got his hand around the tag.

Gausman hasn't pitched. I believe they said that Espino's start should've been Gausman's turn in the rotation but Gausman preferred to ramp up with side sessions and other workouts at the beginning of spring. I imagine he ends up starting in one of the next couple turns through the "rotation".

Also reminder that tomorrow's game vs the Yankees is a late start (6:30 ET or 3:30 PT) and it probably is the YES broadcast again since it's a Yankee home game. So get ready to hear 2 and a half hours of pretending the Yankees are playing teh game by themselves.

To be fair, they ignored the majority of the Yankees too; I mostly had it on mute for the few innings I was able to watch, but literally every time I had the sound on they were talking about Soto.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. waiting on Toronto Blue Jays for extension offer | TSN.ca

Despite a tense arbitration battle, Guerrero Jr. has consistently said there are no hard feelings towards his club and wants to remain in Toronto. But the Blue Jays have yet to put forward an extension offer.

“I have no grudge against the Blue Jays, despite the tense negotiations I had with the team during salary arbitration,” Guerrero Jr. told ESPN’s Enrique Rojas on Thursday. “It’s just business. I would like to be a Blue Jay for the rest of my career, but the team has not made me an offer yet."

The Blue Jays' hesitancy comes as no surprise to ESPN’s Buster Olney, who says on TSN1050 on Friday that Guerrero’s inconsistency throughout his career and the position he plays makes the team wary.

“If you look at the various positions, there’s a higher value placed on shortstops, centre fielders, and pitchers, while first base is lagging behind,” said Olney. “It’s been more than a decade since a first baseman got a $200 million-plus contract.”

“Vladdy has had some ups and downs, not only early in his career, but he had a down year last year. There [also] has been questioning of his conditioning.”

Olney used Los Angeles star first baseman Freddie Freeman as a comparison for Guerrero. Freeman, 34, is considered to be one of the best first-basemen in the game and signed a six-year, $162 million deal in March of 2022.

If the Blue Jays were to use Freeman’s contract as the framework for Guerrero Jr. next deal, the two sides could find themselves far apart.

“I suspect if the Blue Jays were to negotiate this contract right now, they’d probably be far from where Vladdy would want to be,” said Olney. “I think this is going to be another example where the team is going to feel like they want more information and don’t want to commit long-term in that particular position.”

What do you mean, “far apart”? At some point, Vladdy needs to know where he stands. He hasn’t earned a 200m extension, not yet. So just because he is Vladdy Guerrero, he needs to be paid more than Freddie Freeman?

I agree. Vladdy has youth and potential but outside of 2 years he has been replacement level or slightly above.

Since he stepped into the league, Vladdy has put up 10.1 fWAR. For comparison sake, Anthony Rendon has put 10.4 in over 300 less games. The guy who doesnt care about baseball is outperforming you.

Other guys who have outperformed him;

Justin Turner: 13.4
Mark Canha: 12.8
Christian Walker: 12.5
Teoscar Hernandez: 11.4
Whit Merrifield: 10.6
Anthony Rizzo: 10.3

Other players close to him;
Yasmani Grandal: 10.0
Kevin Kiermaier: 9.8
Joey Gallo: 9.6
Jeimer Candelario: 9.0
Kolton Wong: 8.7

None of these guys sniffed $100M when they hit free agency. Vladdy has to put up 4-5+ WAR this season and next if he wants to get anything close to $200M. He has been a huge disappointment and im very happy we didnt give him an extension early on. He needs to prove himself.

Agreed if he wants Freeman money put up Freeman production, the Jays would welcome it too.

Fantastic camera work. It's so low that some fan's raised hand blocks its view. Then the light show messes up the brightness/contrast enough that you can't see anything.
