We'll revisit this in a couple of years when Moreno has more then 1 season under his belt. But from what I have seen so far, especially in the playoffs last year. I think Moreno is going to be an absolute stud. Varsho and Kirk need to step it up big time to justify that trade.
I’m only quoting you but this is my thoughts on both side of this trade. The trade looks bad based on last season however for how bad Varsho was at the plate he was hands down the best defensive player in baseball last year. At least in the outfield but I’m pretty confident it was for all positions. That’s nothing to ignore. It’s why I didn’t like us bringing KK back. Varsho needs to be in centre and i would have ideally liked a masher in lf knowing Varsho can cover off lesser d at the corners. Kirk being good or bad has zero to do with the trade. He wasn’t part of it. For all we know they wanted Kirk to the the catcher traded and they insisted on Moreno. I would have preferred Kirk having been the one traded. I think with Jansen in his last season until free agency there is more pressure for Kirk to be great which aside from being slow as molasses on the bases he is. His bat did fall off also last year. As for Moreno I agree I think he’ll be a stud and have a long great career. Gurriel was a throw in to clear space for Varsho. The fact that he turned it around last year is great for them but it’s of not bother or concern for me. I was happy they traded him. I think this is simply a trade where each team traded from a position of strength to address a position of weakness which was accomplished. I think if Varsho ‘s bat turns around this year it’ll make everyone feel better about the trade. His offence cratering is why everyone complained. He was projected around 37hr last year. If that power shows back up with his d I’ll be pumped. Hopefully the jays can figure out why they couldn’t hit at rogers centre this year

At least Espinal gets to stay up with the Reds as he was option-able with how things stood here.

McElvain doesn’t seem like much on paper but if they get him in the lab and pump some velo into him he might turn into something.
All I wanted was a lotto ticket for him and that’s what we got. Sounds like he just needs to add some heat so hopefully they find a way to get him a few more ticks.

Kind of glad Ohtani chose the Dodgers, because I think this can of smashed arseholes that just got opened is going to get some kind of ugly. Like the Wayne, Janet and Tocchet New Jersey mob bookies kind of ugly! The kind of thing that really disrupts a team and goes to places and gets people suspended, fired and possibly jailed.

I was all excited that I'd get to watch some evening baseball these two days to kick off the season, only to realize the 6:30 start time was in the morning.

Fantasy draft this weekend. With the real games starting in a week. Can't wait!

So which extra 2 starting pitchers will make the team with Gausman and Manoah being delayed? Francis and…? Not sure if Y-Rod is stretched out yet. Does Mitch White start?

Paolo Espino starts in AAA? Do the Jays see Yariel Rodriguez as a starter or a reliever?
Paolo is going to be in AAA and is depth. Yariel will be a starter for now, but is starting late and he was likely to at least see some time in the minors to adjust (note: I'm not sure he ever actually plays in the minors. I think he goes to extended spring training and potentially makes his way up from there, which is also the likely Votto scenario). Yariel's long term is either as a starter or as a back end bullpen guy (where the next few weeks will probably mean a lot for the long term).

I think Votto will see at least a bit of time in Buffalo.

He might, but extended spring training runs for quite a while and would be based out of Dunedin, so the Jays would have significant control over everything.

I'm not sure that they'd want a 40 year-old in Buffalo until it is a little bit warmer.
