I don’t care what these doomers say. Kirk and Varsho are going to re-lengthen this lineup and make it scary again.
Yeah, I sometimes have to remind myself it's just spring, but man does it ever feel good seeing everyone rake this spring.

Unfortunately, with our luck to balance things out our bullpen and pitching staff will likely either be injured or underperform. So far Romano, Manoah, Swanson, and Gausman are delayed by arm issues.

No explosives found at Seoul stadium in police search following bomb threat against Ohtani

The Gocheok Sky Dome is seen ahead of a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres for the MLB World Tour Seoul Series in Seoul, South Korea, Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean police said they’ve found no explosives at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome after searching the site Wednesday following a reported bomb threat against Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.

About 150 police officers used sniffer dogs, X-ray detectors and other equipment to search through the stadium, but no suspicious objects were discovered, according to Seoul’s Guro police station.

Police officers said they acted on a tip that there was a threat targeting the Japanese star but didn’t elaborate.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said the search happened after South Korea’s consulate general in Vancouver, Canada received an email threatening to detonate an explosive at the Gocheok stadium during the Major League Baseball opening game between the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres scheduled to start later Wednesday.
The game will mark the first MLB regular season game in South Korea.

Yonhap said the sender of the English-language email claimed to be a Japanese lawyer. Yonhap cited police as suspecting the email might have come from a person who last year allegedly sent a number of similar threatening emails and faxes while claiming to be a Japanese lawyer.

Police and bomb-sniffing canines were seen searching the seats and hallways of the stadium during the morning. The search did not appear to affect game preparations, with groundcrews checking the fields and K-pop performers rehearsing in the outfield.

Guro police officers said about 350 officers will be deployed by the time the Dodger-Padres game begins.

Baseball (and football) on turf is so wrong. The indoor dark gray stadiums are aesthetically unpleasant to the eye. Hard to watch games played in TB, Texas, and Toronto with a closed roof.

well i am getting excited for the start of the season.

I realize that the only thing that has me excited is pure blind faith as the team really hasn't done anything to get better player wise. .... but i'm still looking forward to it.

Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

also if you think about it, last few seasons we all had such high expectations and the team didn't deliver. Maybe they will come good when the expecations aren't so high.

I haven't watched in spring but I keep seeing Francis pencilled in every rotation. Is he looking that great so far? I understand he was in the complex over the winter.

He’s looked really good. Combine that with Manoah not being ready, Gausman questionable, and Teideman and YRod not stretched out it’s pretty much a given at this point.

He's been pitching very well. There is a real chance that he might have earned a roster spot over Manoah even if Manoah was fully healthy.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles the role, and how the Jays handle things once Manoah gets fully up to speed.

I see Vogelbach and Escobar still around. Either of them makes the team you think? Also, Serven looking good eh?

Vogelbach has a chance, though I think it kind of depends on Votto's situation.

Escobar has been absolutely awful and at this point I don't think there's anything he can do to make the team.

Serven is basically a lock for the backup catcher spot until Jansen comes back. Unless they're comfortable with IKF starting a few games there, but that would be dumb.

Thanks. Appreciate the insight as always.

Vogelbach is a possibility. That depends on how they view Votto and how they can manage the roster without losing Clement.

Escobar is a hard no. He has a .443 OPS with only Horwitz worse of anyone that is actually in MLB camp. Note: the only player between Escobar and Espinal is Martinez (who was optioned early).

I'm still on the fence about Schneider, but if he makes it, it should be taking Espinal's spot.

Friendly reminder that we have 9 projected starters plus whoever breaks as backup catcher. We have to take 3 more guys after that and Clement should be the first of those. That leaves 2 spots for Espinal, Vogelbach, Votto, Schneider, Lukes, etc.

If Schneider isn't with the team, then the best plan would be Espinal and either Lukes or Vogelbach depending on what they think of Votto coming up.

In terms of Serven, he is hitting well, but keep in mind that a huge part of his spring stats is big homer numbers (which aren't in line with his career stats). Unless something has changed, his spring is very different from anything he's done before this (more power and walks with less strikeouts). Henry is a low K guy with similar walk and power numbers before this year, but is 2 years younger.

The more the preseason goes on, the more I want to see Clement as the starting 3B. I know that the plan was for IKF and that he's doing a decent job, but he's striking out quite a bit with some BABIP luck and he's 1 for 4 on steals.

On the other hand, Clement has 1K on the preseason (40PA) and is simply hitting the ball every time and with authority.

Fangraphs also suggests that it might be a good idea:

"None of the other options are very compelling. Santiago Espinal had a moment a few years ago, but his bat has slipped since and he spent much of 2023 fighting hamstring injuries. Cavan Biggio is purely a role player and Eduardo Escobar looks about done. If Turner doesn’t work out, I’d prefer the Blue Jays try to shoot the moon and go with one of the more out there options, like seeing if Ernie Clement can handle the position and hit in the majors, or if a healthier Addison Barger can recapture his 2022 mojo."
