That doesn’t sound like a resignation

The best in Leafs' history is nothing spectacular

Stopped reading there as I assume it doesn't get better.

Casual fans and millennials new to following hockey don’t realize that once upon a time there was no such thing as overtime in the regular season, much less shootouts and getting handed a point even though you lost.

You likely don’t realize the huge impact that has on distorting team “records” for most points in a season.

According to James Mirtle from The Athletic, former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas might join the rival Ottawa Senators as president along with Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson in supporting roles if he receives a significant offer in a role with full autonomy in the coming months.

Given how complex the Leafs roster decisions are going to be this offseason, getting that GM hire right will be imperative. Without Dubas, the Leafs front office is low on experienced hands, and with so many currently in place contemplating their futures, the exodus could create even more uncertainty as the draft and free agency approach at the end of next month.

As for Dubas’ future, while he stated on Monday that he didn’t anticipate quickly relocating to a new role, the thinking around the league right now is that his views may change if he receives a significant offer in a role with full autonomy in the coming months. The situation in Ottawa, in particular, could be intriguing, with new, deep-pocketed ownership and a young roster on the rise.

A front office with the rival Senators that included Dubas as president and Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson in supporting roles would certainly make things interesting in the Atlantic Division.

Not that the Maple Leafs will need any help creating headlines at this point given the organizational upheaval that is going to continue to unfold this offseason.[/URL]
I honestly hope he gets that job. I ride or die with the Leafs, but I'm genuinely curious at how a team built by Dubas without interference does. I liked him as a GM, but he drew his line in the sand. Time to move forward I guess? GL Kyle! You will be missed.

That’s very nice of you CJ

Dubas was a Sens fan growing up, so this would be a good fit with Spezza going to Ottawa. They can have a Summer of Kyle.

I love how James Mirtle is already laying ground work for Kyle's job search. What a good friend.

Edit. And he's doing work for Keefe as well, linking him to the Rangers. Tampering on behalf.

Mirtle throwing out Dubas for the Ottawa job is a reach.

Dorion hasnt been fired. The team still needs to be sold. The new owner will hire a GM and we don't even know who that owner will be at this point. Maybe he just keeps Dorion. No one knows what will happen.

This is just Mirtle stirring the pot.

It definitely is. But it's also not much of a stretch imo

Dubas has a degree of name recognition, on the younger side of executive groups. He does seem like a natural fit for a an ownership dlgrouonthats probably going to be on the younger side themselves.

He does seem like a good fit for what Ottawa is likely going for

Yeah, each team used to get one point at the end of the game. This was called a tie. Nowadays, each team gets one point at the end of regulation and they have tie breaker or possibly 2: a 3on3 overtime for 5 minutes if no goal is scored; there is a shootout to break the tie and win the game. The losing team doesn't get an extra point, but they get to keep the one they earned after 3 periods.

But..but..the media is so tough on the Leafs....

I thought the media was just scared of Babcock when they would ask him such soft questions...it turns out the media is just being soft with all of them. And yet we get told by Kyle that it was super rough on his family? Well, maybe the guys being mean weren't on the media payroll....that's about the only explanation.

Oh papa Homer, you're so learned.

I think we even joked about Dubas going to Ottawa to realize his boyhood dream of repping that team. So it's not a stretch to speculate on something like that. Though I do think this is a blatant example of Mirtle using his platform to lay some ground work, put some feelers out there for his friends for public consumption.

Doesn't matter too much, since this is essentially NHL board room as soap opera, but I guess it's a bit unfair to Dorion, who did actually spend all that time and effort putting that whole program back together.

I’d love to see Dubas get a GM job in the same division or conference because his teams are so easy to beat in the playoffs.
Honestly, I'm very far from a Dubas fan but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a successful GM somewhere else after everything he learned in TO. This could be the wake-up call that he needs going forward.

Of course, TO isn't exactly an easy place to start, so one could make the argument this place was not the right fit for a rookie GM to begin with, but that's ancient history now.

Shanahan should be gone too. The only explanation is that he's a proxy for the owners, which presents its own set of problems.

Kyle didn’t say the media was rough on his family, he said the year was. I think he was blaming the year of no contract for family stress.

I hope he ends up in Ottawa. I love the drama. Maybe Ryan Reynolds resurfaces and they all become our super villains. Let’s get some players in Shannys image to go with our skill guys and drop the puck.

Is there any basis to the idea that other front office people are also going to resign? Or is this all just speculation?

I'm guessing if you're a typical staffer you just continue working your 5 to 6 figure job so you can keep paying your bills, supporting your family, paying the mortgage... like life goes on or something.

For sure. It just strikes me odd that this narrative exists that the Pridhams of the organization are all at risk of quitting and following Dubas. As though there’s not a single shred of professional courtesy in the entire company.

Frustrates me too. Like like there's a Kyle Corporation running inside the Toronto Maple Leafs with separate goals, loyalty, etc. and there aren't just good people and players who are just committed to the team.

It’s disappointing that Spezza would put Dubas and petty office politics above the Maple Leafs.
These guys talk about how they love the fanbase but in the end they don’t have the loyalty of a real fan. The real fans are left holding the bag. We aren’t going anywhere.
