what's going on with Barkov? FLA has to be getting a little anxious.... we saw this movie before.

Imagine a world where we land Panarin AND Barkov in UFA? :)
That would obviously be plan A. If we can replace Zibby with Barkov for the next 7 years, it’s an absolute no brainer.
Barkov would be an immediate upgrade. Being able to roll out a line with Barkov/LaF or Kakko
And Panarin on a 1B line is ridiculous.
Zibby is really good. Barkov is great.

I don’t know what the hold up is In FLA. if he’s not signed to a long term deal by mid season, something is up.
The panthers have assembled a pretty good squad, but if Barkov truly wants his name on the cup, I think the Rangers are a better situation over the next 5-6 seasons.
-we have the firepower on the wings
-young excellent D, with more in the pipeline, headlined by a 23-24 year old Norris winner.
-solid goaltending.
There hasn’t really been any inclination of him being unhappy with the panthers or wanting out, but Barkov isn’t really the type to let that kind of situation leak either. Whatever the case, I’m sure Drury is keeping a close eye on what goes on down on the pan-handle.
I really wished the panthers sucked last season or at least get beat around hard the first half of this year. Barky strikes me as a competitor, a guy that doesn’t want to waste his prime years on a team that can’t contend.
Plus he grossly out-Performed his current deal.

Gallant being as "hands off" with the locker room as he is, i would assume the Captain will be chosen by the players. I always thought the previous regime was pushing Trouba, but the way all the players talk about Kreider, i would almost be surprised if its not him with the C opening night

Ok so now you are changing your argument. By that logic - Kreider should be in Hartford too. Its been what, TWO preseason games? Give it a rest. We enjoy your coverage, but sometimes your European bias gets in the way of reality. K'Andre is ahead of Nils on the depth chart, and it isn't close whatsoever.

How is wanting to see Jones instead of Miller "European bias"?

Miller and Lundkvist play different positions. They aren't competing IMO. It's Jones vs Miller, and Lundkvist vs Schneider. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if all 4 spend time in the AHL and all 4 will play in the NHL throughout the season.

Miller at age 21, with only 56 NHL games under his belt is vastly different from someone like Kreider. Remember when Chytil was sent down after playing 70+ games the season prior?

I really don't understand how Miller is somehow exempt from this, to the point where when it is discussed it's immediately shot down with BS arguments like "European bias". Miller really needs to play better if he wants to keep his spot in the line-up, although I could see a scenario where that doesn't matter like it didn't matter with Howden or Vesey (although Miller is obviously more talented).

And for the record: When Braden Schneider outperforms Nils Lundkvist, he should play on the 3rd pairing.

I dont disagree that miller didnt have a great camp, but i'll say that alot of what we've heard from gallant is that it sounds like he told the top 4 to essentially take it easy.

I dont see miller getting sent down nor do i think he should unless he plays this poorly in real games.

If Gallant told the top 4 to take it easy, we've got problems beyond the players.

And that's what my whole point is based on.

He won't start in Hartford. But if he plays the way he has in pre-season, he really shouldn't be exempt from the discussion on who spends time in Hartford.

Funny enough, he's not the first nor last coach to do that.
Some will just sit the entire top 4.
And most of those coaches will make the playoffs.

Why do we think we know more than NHL veteran coaches?

Going to point this out, this was entirely the narrative with stamkos and TB before they made those huge runs.
... and he went no where.

The list of major free agents to switch teams in the past 5+ years
panarin, hall, tavares

Top tier free agents not only don't hit free agency, but typically stay because that extra year is always worth.
Larkin is the player more likely to be moved in my opinion.
The wings are at least 2-3 years from even starting to turn the corner in the rebuild, they've already talked about moving him (from edge), whereas I dont think we've even heard that FL is listening to offers.
Larkin also would potentially let us go mika/larkin as a 1a/1b scenario as I doubt larkin is going to be looking for 10m.

Same. I think Miller would completely have to screw the pooch to get sent down at this point in time. He’s already got the nhl size/attributes. Going straight from college 2 the pros while not playing D all that long, there’s obviously going to be bumps in the road.
He did too many good things for the 1st half of last season not to warrant a little leeway.
I don’t think they are going to mess with him psychologically right now. Even though on merit in the preseason so far jones and Lundkvist look a bit better.
The only way Miller is going to be sent to the A is if he’s hangs himself up here. I’m sure he’s feeling a bit of pressure with all these good young D coming up right behind him, and he’s probably a little nervous and it’s affecting his focus a bit.
I think by Gallant saying for sure he’s running
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth-???
He’s trying to make Miller a little more comfortable hoping he doesn’t try to do too much out there.
I doubt Gallant wants 2 rookies in the top 6 D atm either so he willing to cut Miller some slack.

I think you mean he did too many good things in the 1st half.
Miller's first half in the NHL he was at least a servicable player every game. The other thing was that it appeared that while paired with trouba, trouba was also about where we expected him to be initially.
It gave us two legitimate top 4 pairs for the first time in a very long time.

Miller's game def dropped off to some degree in the second half, but he's not the first or last rookie to do that.

This fanbase always has it's favorite whipping boys. This year it's going to be spread out among Kreider, Trouba, Nemeth, Strome, Miller, and Georgiev. Equal opportunity bitching.
Let’s gang up on Georgie all year until he’s traded. He sucks and seems like a real douchbag.

Larkin is a good target and would be a good add.
In Stammers case, slather had the trade all but done for him to come to NYR after his down year. The Lightning GM pulled out at the 11th hour.
Think it was Callahan/Dubinsky, 1St, one of our D prospects, and a 4th piece. I’d have to go back and check.

New here?
Sadly i think people have forgotten that gallant is not quinn.
Quinn i get why everyone second guessed literally every decision that he made.

Gallant has a history of getting teams to play way above their expectations. He knows what makes a team good, and I dont think he's ever had a team this talented.
He's shown he can get stars to improve their game, and also get more out of mid level players.

This absolute panic before the regular season even starts is beyond anything ive ever seen.
Ive been here 5 years and you'd think that gallant was talking about having fox play goalie a game or two.

Telling people to take it easy is not exactly the way to change the culture and instill a better work ethic into this team.

Has any boss ever told anyone to half-ass it? To take it easy because you've got it made?

I never pretended to know more than an NHL coach. This is just real life common sense.

It's absurd. The fire Gallant thread was started after the first preseason game. Never underestimate this fanbase when it comes to drama and panic.

Considering Gallant has come out and publicly said the last spot is a between Nils and Jones, you are incorrect. Not sure of your grudge against Miller. In the Nils v Jones thread you literally said if this team was a meritocracy you would have Fox-Lindgren Trouba-Jones Nils-Nemeth and Schneider as the 7th.

I don't think Miller should be exempt. But you literally think he should be in Hartford after 2 throwaway preseason games and that simply isn't how it works. We all follow you on twitter so your argument against the European bias is going to be a tough hill to climb. Hell, look at your username photo...

Honestly we complain about dolan, when we're probably as a collective just as bad.

Hartford’s defense is going to be nice this year. I kinda liked what I saw from pajuniemi. He’s smart, doesn’t panic and sees the ice well. He needs a year to round his game but he seems like he might have a chance. Hartford will be decent if they can score consistently

He needs a sandwich and to seriously hit the weight room if he wants to be more then a Brandon Pirri type. Kid can rip it for sure though
