Gotta give all of it time to shake out. Miller is a young player who you have to expect to go through ups and downs. I don't have any problem with a coach saying the kid who finished on the all-rookie team a season ago is a lock to make the roster. If come November, we're losing and Miller is struggling, then you have to make tough decisions, but with a player so young and raw still it feels presumptive to say he'll be good or bad to start the year one way or the other, or to say that however he looks will be how he'll look for all or even most of the season.
Jones, if sent down, will be waiting in the wings. As will Schneider. As will, to a lesser extent, Reunanen and Robertson. Who makes the team out of camp doesn't mean who will play most of the season, or set the roster permanently in place, especially under a new coach.
Quinn's first year, Lias seemed like a lock over the summer and got beat by Howden. The next year, Chytil started in Hartford. The next year, Lias was on the opening night roster--anybody remember that?
