Thinking about starting a new HF political faction for Zac Jones to usurp Miller's role and status within the organization.

Miller played big minutes in the NHL last year and succeeded. He will only regress if he’s sent to the AHL. He’s isn’t being sent down.

For about 2 months, yes. He really hasn't played well since mid-March. And his performance so far in pre-season, albeit a small sample size, has been horrendous. If Jones or Lundkvist played the way Miller did, nobody would even argue with them going to Hartford.

Playing 56 NHL games at age 21 shouldn't make you immune to a demotion. Miller certainly has something to gain from a few weeks in Hartford. As much as Jones, Lundkvist, Schneider and Robertson. I really do not understand how he's a lock to make the team, and honestly cannot see him keeping his spot unless he improves significantly.

Why would Miller regress if he's sent down?

Maybe I'm not as down on Miller as some are here. I thought he played well for the majority of last season and the wear and tear of a full NHL took its toll on him later in the season, as it will do to most collegiate defenseman not named Adam Fox.

At first glance it was good Miller continued to play over the summer in Da Beauty league, because he needs more reps on defense in general. With that thinking you could say he could certainly benefit from time with the Pack, but I also felt he got into bad habits playing at a lower level. I began to not like that decision after seeing a few of those games. Some of those bad habits may have carried over.

Now im not comparing the AHL to Da Beauty league by any standards, I'm just coming from the standpoint that a kid with that much raw talent needs to stay up and learn at the highest level. He doesnt seem to have a confidence problem if you listen to his interviews. He feels its been an easy transition for him going from Wisconsin straight to the Rangers. A little piece of humble pie might be in order, but that leads me to my next point.

We need give Gallant several weeks to assess all of the players, especially kids like Miller who will benefit from his coaching style and guidance. We brought in Gallant because he is a better coach than Quinn, let's let him do his job. That will require some patience and maybe letting some young players regain their footing.

Regarding Miller, i actually wonder if its the pairing that is hurting him. Is he a good partner with Trouba and vice versa?

He looked a lot better with Trouba than without last season.

There's no certainty that will continue, however.

The only other realistic combination is Miller-Fox, which is interesting. Miller-Fox, Nemeth-Trouba and Lindgren-Lundkvist could be fun, it's well balanced. That second pairing could become Jones-Trouba soon.

Miller is not going to Hartford. No shot. He will be on the opening night lineup right next to Trouba.

Nemeth has the 3LD spot.

This is down to Jones and Lundkvist for the 3RD.

At some point I could see Jones leapfrogging Nemeth on the depth chart. My concern with a Jones-Lundkvist pair is size. Yes I know size is not as much of a concern these days, but it is still a factor plus you have two young defensemen who are learning the ropes, speed, etc of the NHL, which includes handling a heavy checking line dumping the puck in behind you to bang bodies.

But Jones-Lundkvist could be a pair halfway thru the season

I see Miller's the new scapegoat this season. Fantastic.
Nah - prospects are rarely scapegoats (Howden the exception). Even Lias avoided being a scapegoat - his poor performance attributed to the coach. I nominate Nemeth as the most likely scapegoat if we get off to a bad start. Would fit a pattern over the years - Poti, Malek, etc.

Miller was great in the first half last season and then when he hit a wall he struggled a bit, but it's definitely revisionist history to act like he was total dogshit every night in the second half of the season. He was up and down.

Miller was on the all rookie team last year. Gallant is excited to see him in his lineup. He's not losing his spot in training camp.

It's a little ridiculous to think he should lose his spot because Jones looks good in a couple preseason games. Jones jumped a bunch of players on the depth chart (Hajek was a regular last season remember) but that doesn't mean he should be on the NHL team over Miller.

IF Miller struggles big time this season I could see an argument for sending him down but doing it now wouldn't be right.

I personally believe Trouba isn’t the best partner for Miller.

Lindgren would be a better partner for Trouba. I even think Nemeth would be better with Trouba than Miller

problem is if you do that you either have Miller taking top pairing duties with Fox (which he isn’t ready for) or have him paired with Lundkvist who’s a rookie

so Miller being with Trouba is the least bad of the 3 options

This fanbase always has it's favorite whipping boys. This year it's going to be spread out among Kreider, Trouba, Nemeth, Strome, Miller, and Georgiev. Equal opportunity bitching.

Lindgren has been great with Trouba whenever they play together. I don't understand why Miller is seemingly married to Trouba, they were average to below average more than they were good. I just don't think they work that well together.

Brooksie today questions Kreider on the right side. Chytil at Center, arguing Barron has been better (so far). Who is the odd man out? Does Kravtsov get scratched and Gauthier start?

Wait - people really think K'Andre is going to Hartford? Even after Gallant has openly announced Fox Lindgren Trouba Miller and Nemeth are already locked in? Way too much overthinking going on around here

He won't start in Hartford. But if he plays the way he has in pre-season, he really shouldn't be exempt from the discussion on who spends time in Hartford.
