It will be glorious when Geersten is an absolute liability for 5 mintues of ice time just because we are dressing Reeves for 8-10 minutes.
 
Geersten is a real desperation pick-up for some grit. However, its funny how so many posters rail on adding 'toughness' until a top 6 player gets crunched. For anyone that watched the Debbies and Isles game, Ross Johnson could care less about the 25 lbs of muscle Jack Hughes added. Ross had his way and knocked Hughes out of the game.

Unfortunately for the Devils, adding Geertsen will not stop Ross Johnston from doing what he does.

Agreed. I think they will have real issue with this throughout the season. Aside from Wood they don't have anyone that can protect the team.

It’s doesn’t stop Johnston. No. But it does add someone who can give Barzal the same level of thuggery and not get pummeled when Johnston comes calling.

Had to notice in Boston when Forbort didn’t like the clean hit Cuylle made. He wanted to go after him but Reaves quickly put a stop to it. Having someone to step up when it’s outside of others capabilities is good to have sometimes.

In fairness, I HIGHLY doubt that internally the Devils thin they will be pushing for the Stanley Cup this year and it may be worthwhile to shelter a guy like Tinordi a bit for what he brings.

I agree though, a forward is easier to shelter.

The Devils are looking around and see Wilson, Reaves, Johnston and Martin their division. The pickup isn't that poor of a move for 1 year

sending geertson out when barzal is on the ice seems like a very bad idea for the devils.

Yupper...for sure...great to see the league adding some toughness and gritty types who can provide some entertainment on some quiet nights in an 82 game schedule . You don't see many sitting down during a scrap...funny thing about that eh ? Ross the Boss is up for a new deal...and will want a raise and likely will get it because of Reeves in the division now....it's like a snowball....gotta love it !!!I predict first game Reeves and Ross....couple of big guys . Too bad Gauthier was such a wimp....he would have a spot by now if he played a bit more with an edge and a 5 year deal !!!

Yeah, claims are really rare and when they happen it’s goons/goalies most of the time. Sure a depth D could get claimed too or a forward like Gauthier, but I think it’s unlikely.
