Could be!

At the same time, some coaches are old fashioned about players being injured being held away from the team almost completely. Not sure exactly what the thought behind that approach is, but it seems like its intended to make sure that players that are out thrives to get back faster or something like that. I don't know.
Quarantine. There are new protocols in place. The league is doing everything that can be done to make sure players are kept safe from contacting an LBI.

Don't think it's necessary to settle the 3rd pair once and for all before the season start. Sure, it might give NL, ZJ, Tinordi, Schneider -- whomever gets the nod -- some extra comfort. But the schedule is tough and a lot will be going on if a kid gets the nod. In that perspective I think that its more positive than negative if the door is held open for a little longer and these kids are eased in.

The challenge is that when you have a playoff mandate, if one of the players going down to injury is a veteran, a coach is going to be much more comfortable putting in a Bitteto or Tinordi than a second rookie defenseman.

Now if it's Miller or Lindgren going down that's a different situation.

I’m very ok with sending down Tinordi and rotating Lund/Jones/Nemeth

I'm more okay with Nemeth-Lundkvist and a 7th d-man of Hajek and allowing Jones to play big minutes in Hartford. Jones is a year younger than Nils and he needs playing time. Just because one player starts in the NHL doesn't mean they won't rotate after 10-15 games.

What I DO NOT WANT is either player sitting for any length of time in lieu of playing meaningful minutes at either level.

There’s about 165 games for those 2 positions split by 3 guys is about 55 games each (I get it won’t happen that way and not considering injuries). I’m good with that, that’s a Euro season approx. and many more than Jones played in NCAA

I get that would be okay, but why not have them both play 70-90 games each health permitting?

The only big decision left is whether Hajek or Tinordi gets the 7th D spot. I assume thats why they are looking to deal Libor. Gauthier & Hunt will be the spare forwards. Barron played well from what i saw, but not well enough to force the issue, so he will go to HFD.

Something is fishy about the Kravtsov situation. Theres been chatter from a lot of the beat writers about him potentially not making the team and he missed basically the entire pre-season so far with an injury. I still think hes cleary available if a trade for a top 6 C materializes. Im sure VK would not be pleased with being assigned to the AHL again, but, Chytil & Lindgren both started the 2019 season there and it seemed to pay positive dividends. We shall see.

I'm hoping theres a good reason why they left Kravstov home and its more than the injury, because judging from Gallants comments it doesn't seem too bad. Day to day doesn't suggest he needs a ton of rest and treatment.

I'm just a little surprised that they wouldnt send him anyway for the team events. He's a young kid from another country who could benefit from the team bonding, regardless if he's out on the golf course or in practice or not.

I'm sure they are having team dinners and other meetings and experiences together that are non-physical. If its my team, i'd want him there provided the league doesnt have any specific protocols that force him to stay in NY. None that I know of though.

This is a kid who is penciled into the top 9 and should be a big part of the team, one that has a playoff mandate sticker slapped on all of their helmets by the owner. If they are serious about that then I would expect them to include everyone in a trip that has been labeled "very important" by the coach himself. Especially a young player like Kravstov.

I really think people are reading into the Kravtsov thing too much. For all we know he sprained his ankle and is staying off of it for a couple days.

That being said, I think Gauthier outplayed him this camp but it sure seems like the Rangers are going to hand him a NHL spot and hope he does something with it.

I do have a feeling that the coaching staff may see Gauthier and think they can work with him. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Gauthier will be waived. They probably see a young guy with raw, appealing tools who hasn't put it together yet.

Good point. I was thinking that they could carry a 23 man roster for a while and go with say Hunt, Tinordi and Jones/Lundkvist in the stands. Then when it’s clear a few weeks into the season which one of Jones/Lundkvist should get the nod, they can demote the other.

Sending Kravstov down to Hartford might not be good for the relationship so while he probably hasn’t earned a spot on the roster, he’s going to make the team

The timing is a bit unfortunate…

But it depends on how long he is out too. Like say that is his out 4 more weeks and someone like Blais is great in the top 9, what would his own expectation be? That he would come in and they would kick Kakko out?

He would probably have to count on taking the long way.

The kid seems to mean business this year, hopefully he can come back before the season start and make a statement. If not, another year in the K isn’t the worst idea.

He could be a Ryan Graves type who flourish elsewhere, but honestly, with Gauthier, there is just not a big enough silverlining for me.

If I were the Rangers, the team is already set at this point:

Panarin-Strome-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kaako
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Blais-Rooney-Reaves
Gauthier
Hunt

If there are any injuries or time off needed for the guys in red, I insert Gauthier (for the centers, I roll over Goodrow and then insert Gauthier in his spot)

For the blue, if there are any injuries or time off needed, I insert Hunt.

Obviously I am not expecting Hunt to play top-line minutes if Panarin is injured but I would expect Blais and Kreider to move up and Hunt to back-fill

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth-Lundkvist
Hajek

Tinordi and Jones sent to the AHL

I don't disagree, but can the FO really make decisions based off whether or not this kid will throw another hissy fit?

If he gets sent down, all he needs to do his play his ass off and he'll be back in a few weeks.
