Fox will be 24 when his next contract begins. Three years away from group III. The cap will be flat for 3-4 more seasons after this season. Fox signs a four or five year contract worth $9.5M which includes one or two group III years. Fox signs the 8 year contract max contract for eight figures until he is 36 or 37.

Rather give him 75 over 8 now.

Hate the idea of any player making 9+ in their 35/36/37 aged seasons

Thats a brutal look

If Fox is getting 9.5 then that has to be an 8 year contract, no ifs, ands or buts.

That makes a ton of sense but I wonder if either side can delay gratification like that.
I have a feeling we see a slightly-under-market 8-year deal for Fox.
The Rangers are not a creative cap-management team. At least they haven’t been so, to date.
Unless Fox’s side proposes it.

I mean that's a decade away now for Fox, who knows what the salary cap will look like and $9 mill might look like a decent deal even for an aging star and one you're fine with because it's not really handicapping you

Barron likely starts the year in the AHL and is the first man up for injury or underperformance

Which IMO is okay, there will be some injuries and probably more than one COVID related absence at times. In Hartford he can continue to work on his chemistry with Pajuniemi and show him the NA game.

Skinner not getting a preseason game is too bad but expected due to the numbers game.

Why would Fox make that deal? Fox having his contract expire at 32 is not a good situation for him.
Its a lot of money and even though you expect him to continue at a high level there is no certainty. This eliminates any risk including impact of a bad injury down the road.

Panarin took a discount as well. Right around 10 million dollars on the table before tax.
Yea but not by much. And in the home stretch he was leveraging the isles number to get the rangers to come up, even though he had no intention of ever going there.
He left money on the table, but it wasn’t really substantial or mind blowing

I had moderate hopes of Barron making it, but given the lines at practice it looks like he heading to Hartford
I think they want him up right now, but the sheer number of wings and still having Zibby/strome/chytil/Rooney might mean he has to go down, at least for a bit. I think they rather give him a 3rd line role rather then him center the 4th line even if he out performs Rooney. Injuries happen, I expect he’ll be up sooner rather then later if that’s the case and they don’t keep him right out of camp.
Also, if that is indeed the approach they take, I think when he comes up this year and some point, I don’t think he ever goes back to Hartford

The Rangers have to sign him. If he says he doesn’t want to take a discount then what will they do? Trade him? He has all the leverage.
There's a middle ground. I'm not talking about low balling him. $8.5M is a hometown discount

This is good for Henriksson. It’s important for his future development that he can win a big role for Frölunda, a team with heavy competition for roster spots. Which certainly was taken into consideration when the decision to cut him was taken. He had a good rookie tournament and a perfectly OK first pre season game — for a 20 y/o. Someone like Hagelin didn’t make the team before he was 23 y/o. The kid can still develop a lot. I don’t worry that much about his size. I mean, if you are small you are small. Your size will never be a ‘positive’ factor anyway. But he could improve his speed more. Agility etc is fantastic, but more top speed.
