Also, regarding Chytil, he put up 22 points in 42 games as a 21 year old without consistent linemates or second of powerplay or top 6 time. We all know how bad the kids line was most of the year. The fact that Chytil paced for 40 points regardless of his circumstances is pretty notable

He didn’t cost a 1st and a blue chip prospect. Or 2 1sts or some of the crazy prices we saw on the boards. He cost a mid 1St and a 2nd. I would have happily traded Jones, 2nd, Georgiev for him. Or even a 1st and Georgiev.
Its not so much that Strome and Chytil are better Offensively and DVO isn’t. But if your going by the stat line it looks that way, but Dvo was on a far worse team with almost No help. It’s hard to predict how a change of scenery would impact him, especially if he was going to center a top 5 wing in the NHL like Panarin. DVO immediately does the little things on the line with panarin that strome lacks. Points wise, the line might not be the same, but as far as doing the dirty work and playing a better all around game, Dvo checks a lot of boxes that strome doesn’t.
Before Strome came here, he was nothing to write about offensively. He had 1 50pt season which at the time of the trade was looking like a fluke. He was a season away from being waiver wire fodder. He comes here and gets a chance with Panarin and his fortune changes.
Some think he’s now worth a 1st as a rental ( not me).
I’m not saying DVoarak is offensively inept either. His increased his offensive out put every year. Last season being his best so far he was pacing at over 20 goals and 45 points. Very similar to Strome offense before joining the rangers. The biggest gripe I have with people is they say Dvo is what he is at this point, with no room for improvement offensively and that’s just not the case. I’m not saying he would magically walk in and put up the same # s as Strome either. He likely wouldn’t, because as you mentioned, he’s probably won’t see the PP time strome receives.
But 20-25 goals and 50-55 pts centering panarin and Blais/Kakko/Kravtsov while playing every other facet of the game better then Strome is certainly a possibility. That’s an upgrade if you ask me.
It’s water under the bridge now. He’s a Hab. The chance has passed us by. I would shift my Focus to Robert Thomas now. He’s still young and cheap enough and ready to break out. Blues are pretty deep an fwd and I think Kyriou has passed him on the depth chart. I’d try like he’ll to pry him out of St louis
I have a feeling that like Gorton in recent years, Drury has drawn a pretty solid line around Rangers first draft choices. He will trade them, but only in a deal for what he considers a premium player. That wasn't Dvorak.

KAM had a great start last season, but I thought that defensively he was struggling quite a bit.

He needs to use his size more, improve his defense and his stickhandling on the blueline. He had to carry a bit too much responsibility on the 2nd line especially after Trouba got injured.

But I think he will be a lot better next season with a new coach and next to Trouba.

Perhaps it's a stretch but when you also save ~$3m on the cap in comparison, that's a BIG difference.

And this is semantics anyways, my main point was that there is a conversation to be had between these players. This is a clear example of people undervaluing a piece of the deal because he's not 'sexy' which is exactly what @Edge warned us of with any of these deals. The team was going to try to round out their lineup with non-sexy, lunch pail guys. Blais fits that mold. So does Goodrow.

The guy who still intrigues me quite a bit is Hunt. If we look at his p/60 last year it's 1.6 which coincides with an average Brandon Tanev season AND he hits A TON. The Rangers may have sourced a Brandon Tanev for peanuts as a UFA and no one is talking about it.

Probably because no one is penciling Hunt into the lineup

That’s fair. I just don’t see the Logic in keeping Strome if they want chytil to spread his wings. I know they think that strome is a safety net, but he’s actually acting as a hinderance.
Strome has back to back solid seasons and his trade value is still pretty bad.
I’d be surprised if he brought back a 2nd and decent prospect, especially needing a new deal.
I think keeping him just to walk away from him at the end of the season is dumb. It delays seeing if Chytil can handle the 2C role and next offseason we will likely be having the same discussion on what to do about a long term 2C option.
I would also hate to send Barron down to Hartford if he has an excellent camp just because we have too many players currently in the top 9. If he needs more time, sure send him to the A. But if he’s ready for duty, I’d rather have him up with the big boys getting NHL ice time against NHL players. Gaining NHL experience.
I’d rather have the core of our top 9 building chemistry together and settling into their spots then delaying finding out another year just because...
Most of the players we have right now should fill our top 9 for many upcoming playoff and hopefully cup runs. The sooner they settle into their positions and we find out what we really have with them, the better off we are going to be in the long run. That way at least drury will know what he needs to tweak or leave alone.
Defense is going to be the a similar task, but at least all the personnel is here. But guys are going to need to step up and win their role if they want it

KAM has astronomical peaks.... Like ABSURD defensive highs/capabilities. aka Smothering Crosby and/or anyone behind the net, on the boards etc.

He is raw and will have lows. As seen predominantly without Trouba, who gave him a solid foundation to fall on.

My biggest gripe with KAM is how awkward he is (occasionally) pivoting from skating backwards/transition and un-needed mental lapses that should shape up with more coaching and experience..

YOU DO NOT TRADE A PLAYER LIKE KAM.

I agree for sure, and Ds just take time to develop.

We also tend to look a lot at metrics with young Ds, some do well and some don’t. But even looking past the opponent factor, Ds do develop. Like scoring is important for forward, if a young forward looks promising but don’t score, we don’t write him off. It’s the same with a rookie D, the production/performance doesn’t matter, it’s the potential. There is always some develooment.

KAM has everything. The hard part is putting it together. But if Hedman needed more than D+4 years to even play somewhat respectable, can we give KAM D+3?

In 2019 before Fox played an NHL game. At the time, everyone would have agreed. Weird that you remember that though and waited until I posted that to bring it up when it my comment has nothing to do with Byram or Fox. I could go through your messages and find something completely irrelevant to pick on as well. I genuinely don’t even know who you are though

Yes before Fox played an NHL game but you were still pretty sure. It's a problem I see throughout the board so don't mean to pick you out specifically but just pointing out that many seem to be so sure of what somebody will likely become but really nobody here is very accurate at all. Just don't understand how everybody can be so certain with their opinions. I guess it doesn't matter in the end. Just find it funny.

Oh and after Fox won the Norris and then there were various discussions on here regarding Miller, Nils, Kakko, etc and what they'd become, I went back and looked at the Fox thread from when the Rangers acquired him just out of interest of what the thoughts were at the time. It's how I remembered your (and others) thoughts.

BTW I'm not disagreeing with your general feeling on Miller. I like his prospects a lot.

This. I think Blais will surprise people and become a grinder guy that you can put in the top 6 to complement the skill players In a more balanced 4 lines.

Ideally, he's a Jesper Fast, no? Will do the dirty work on a skill line but still contribute offensively.

I'm all about it. Blackwell came in as a wildcard and earned a regular spot. He brought a lot of energy. Hoping he'll do well in Seattle.

Hunt is in the same mold. A little bigger, hits more, but I think he has the potential to chip in some offense, too. And his metrics were quite good for a guy with a ton of defensive zone starts (71% last year, 57% this year).

And Namestikov played with Stamkos...

I haven’t seen on a lot of Blais so I will hold out on an opinion but still. Stamkos and O’Reilly just make their teammates better I think
Also, he was sat for people who probably wouldn’t make our club this season. You got a look in the top six? Great for you, buddy. But there’s a lot of context in that decision that might not be relevant for Gallant next season.
