Not sure about Rooney but this is very possible.
Who else would be 4C in that scenario? Barron?

Rooney is a pretty good 4C and penalty killer IMO, and fits perfectly for where we need him in the lineup right now. I’d love for Barron to win out that spot, but I think he’d be better served continuing to grow as the 1C in HFD before making the jump to the NHL either later this year or next year. Justin Richards is another kid that I’m hoping can have another good year in HFD before forcing his way into a 4th line role next season.

We’ve got to many forwards we didn’t finish the job this off-season we clearly set out to do.

Barron Hunt Reaves Rooney McKegg Blais Gauthier all should make the team but there’s only 5 spots avail and that’s if you carry the full 14

couple of those guys should be regulars everyday too

All due respect to Kegger but I don't even think he expects to make the NHL roster.

Barron and McKegg go to the A, maybe McKegg sticks as the 13th forward.

I'm so, so interested in seeing what we get from Gauthier this season under the new regime where he isn't walking on eggshells.

I think he gets 1 more legit shot to start the season before they move along.

McKegg shouldn't make any NHL team, let alone this one. But yeah, point stands.

I have Greg the Keg and Johnny Brods as the 2 worst Ranger forwards to put on the jersey in the last half decade. Greg seemed to regularly trip over every line painted on the ice.

The team really needs Barron to play center. He has the skill set to do so and they signed a guy in Goodrow who is a center's dream to play with in terms of his ability to support. The smart play is to have Barron go to the AHL and play BIG minutes down there in every situation at center.

Kravtsov is not a center. We need to move away from this idea that he can just slide over.

Panarin-Strome-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kaako
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Blais-Rooney-Reaves

Hajek is waiver toast. Barron will start in HFD for more C Exp as well as McKegg. Kratvsov isn’t going anywhere unless he shows up out of shape. The big question in my mind will be Hunt/Goat. I predict that Hunt will outplay Goat in pre season but will be sent down and Gauthier staying due to his waiver status

Gauthier is probably done here. He ain’t making the team out of camp unless he really comes on strong and 1000% he gets picked up on waivers if they send him down

Well, I mean how can we say they didn’t value him on one hand because they included him in this trade, while also saying we didn’t get enough in this trade? Isn’t the more logical take that we didn’t get more from the Blues BECAUSE they valued Blais more highly than the average HF poster seems to?

And that's the other side of the coin right? In most trades you have to give to get and unlike some here think, GMs aren't trying to screw over other GMs in trades, rather they are just looking to improve their franchise. So in most cases, teams do value those they trade away. Example: I believed TB valued Howden and Hajek when they traded them but they valued McD more for their situation at the time.

Now we don't know the specifics of how the Buch/Blais trade came about. Who reached out to who and for who? We don't know why the Blues made the trade or the Rangers for that matter but we can guess.

Same thing with the Blues outlook on Blais. Looking at his usage over the last three seasons, I believe the Blues view him as a good tough to play against winger that played well enough with ROR and Perron but one they could easily backfill so they packaged him with a 2nd to a team specifically looking for that type a player for what they see as a good 1st/2nd liner that could also be in their PK rotation.

Interesting note: In the 2019 playoffs and during the two following reg seasons Blais played limited minutes but did indeed play the majority with ROR and Perron. In the 2020 and 2021 playoffs he ended up playing most of his time on a more traditional lower line with Sanford and Thomas (then Clifford). He also has never been in their PK rotation.

I mean, we saw what this kid did 2 years ago when they sent him to the A.

We think he'd somehow be more chill about it now?
that was situational. It was handled poorly but it birthed the 'heartrate' meme.

If he comes into camp and tears it up, he would force himself on the top9 but as of now.. IMO it's Kakko, Goodrow/Chytil and Blais.

It wasn’t the Buch/Blais trade. It was Buch for a 2nd and Blais as a throw-in.
