It is still unclear whether a suspended unvaccinated player will count against his team’s salary cap during the suspension – and other COVID-related roster implications remain a work in progress.

“We’re optimistic that we can utilize the [normal] roster rules but we’ll adjust if we need to. We’re hoping to have enough available players that clubs will be able to fill as they need in the normal way,” Daly said. “Having said that, we’ve been in communication with our general managers, they were a little bit concerned about the issue. What we’ve said is let’s see how training camp goes. Let’s see where we are and let’s see how many players are getting infected, or [if] there is a breakthrough in infections.”

Feedback from NHL GMs indicated that they are most concerned about the availability of a third goaltender, should one of their team’s netminders gets sick or gets hurt.

“That would be the first area of concern that we’d look to address, possibly creating some kind of taxi squad for goaltenders,” Daly said. “Again, we’ll see how training camp plays out and what our experience is there and whether adjustments need to be made. One of the best things we’ve done is we’ve been very flexible and able to adapt to the circumstances that face us and we don’t make decisions too early. Sometimes, it’s excruciatingly slow, but part of that is making sure that we can gather to make important decisions, and I think we’ve been successful in doing that.”

I still sub b/c I do like a number of their other writers, including Shayna.

Who is subscribing for Carp? No one.
I sub for everything but carp.
Carp does the post game review stuff, and sometimes I wonder if he actually watched the game?
That being said i get more than just rangers stuff out if it.
You also get katie strang articles which are almost always fantastic.

Strang is a great reporter, I remember her from her days at Newsday.

She has seemed to corner the market on some of the darkest, most disturbing stories though. You know if you get a call from Katie to comment on a story, boy it ain't good.

No incentive to show them either. The obsessives are already obsessed.

Team has been pitching a rebuild.

Lots of youth on team now, you're telling me getting a chance to see the pipeline is not going to intrigue some of the more casual fans?

I'd disagree with that.

Regarding the obsessed, you have a point, but if you are already slotting time for a pat on the back, it should be for something more meaningful than a rerun of a game during a season that ended with the regular season finaly.

I really would like to see that 3rd line of Kreider Goodrow Chytil. I don't care who's in the middle.

6'2 203
6'2 206
6'3 217

I thought Chytil's defensive game took a few small strides last year. He's got more to learn there but I feel like with his frame he fits in really nicely on that line. He's always been a dog on the forecheck.

Goodrow isn't fleet of foot, but he won't have to be with those two on either side of him. He stops on pucks. That's something you want rubbing off on the other two. He and Chytil can take draws, so you have two centers out there which will be important, but especially on the road when Gallant could have them out more often against top lines and at the end of games.

The key on this line is Kreider. I was fine with his extension, unlike many fans. Kreider will be in game shape until he's 50. H'es a freak, never a concern there. He will have wheels past 40. Won't be an issue. He's always going to give you 22-28 goals (though he scored at a pace to break 30 for the first time last season) and 20-25 helpers.

However, a vast majority of those points came on the top two scoring lines. Understood. If he's on this line you can't expect that. So the next argument from fans is why pay him that contract not to have the same offensive output?

Half of his goals are coming on the PP over the past few seasons and it's rising. He's mastered the front of the net on the PP. You keep him there. He'll likely get 10 or so on this line even strength. He's still breaking 20 goals IMO. The assists will drop.

With Kreider you get a veteran with 80 playoff games and trip to the finals to go along with Goodrow who has 65 and 2 Cups. He can play a tight game if needed. We've seen it. His game hasn't been perfect at times defensively but you keep him on the wing where he's comfortable. He can work on the finer in-zone responsibilities and his speed to pucks and getting out to the point is very valuable late in the game.

This could be a tremendous pseudo-checking line. Chytil can be groomed here to round out his game and get plenty of time to do it. And if Chytil takes the next step he could be the line driver Kreider and Goodrow need to help their transition games. If you need to kill time or sustain a forecheck after goal, dump the puck in and Kreids will retrieve it. This could be a slight reinvention of a player who may excel in a role that isn't centered around offense.
could be an interesting line, but I think Chytil and Kreider will end up doing the same thing. The latter, like you said, it's still learning to be defensive, while Kreider is simply limited in reading the puck above the circles, that's always been his issue. So you might wind up with 2 guys checking deep every shift. Of course, with this speed to get back but not the right spatial perception, which could make Goodrow the only legitimate third liner. But I'm just being negative because it's possible, doesn't mean they shouldn't try it. I have a feeling they are going to ask Kreider to focus primarily on finishing checks and stopping breakouts. I would be surprised if he only scored 15 goals this season. He's more of a victim of a changing team but I think he's going to stick around for a long time, and I like that personally. It will just be in a different roll but one he is capable of if he really focuses.

He may score more than 15, especially when they throw him out there on the right or as some kind of third wheel. It depends how things go. How good Kakko is, Kravtsov, will Gallant decide Strome or Chytil and then who the hell is Blais?

There is going to be a lot of mixing and matching early on, I think. I think Kreider might take time to find his groove.

Is he doing security on the side for Dolan and the Rangers? Filling out the shirt pretty well haha

That is, like, the scariest picture I've ever seen. They look like apparitions with dark sunken eye sockets and no eyes. Like when you take a picture and capture a ghost in the shot.

Kakko looks massive here holy- his genetics are crazy. His dad has a huge frame too.

edit- didn’t see this was already posted

Massively jacked. Some say fat. Others say big boned.

Meanwhile, Chytil looks like a young Mike Sullivan.

I get that there are a bunch of us who would watch if offered.

I don't get the extreme entitlement of fans demanding they get what they want,
and the bitter condemnation, and discrediting of organizations, which make their own business decisions, for not satisfying them.

It just strikes me as Cookie Monster demanding more cookies.
Sports fans have never had more up-to-date detailed content.
Making a big deal of not getting more just seems spoiled.
It's a couple of meaningless, early-camp, inter-squad rookie scrimmages.

Your most valuable franchise in the NHL:

Extremely weak fan access relative to other teams. Many teams stream prospect and regular camp scrimmages, with an actual camera on a tripod instead of someone's phone on periscope.

Main writer in the Athletic hasn't published an article in almost 2 weeks despite the team's GM holding a press conference and prospect development camp running. Just replies "badass" to random tweets twice a day (I thought @Tob made this up, looked at Carp's twitter and had a ridiculously long laugh).
He did it again today lol

it’s like his calling card

The entire SJ team hates Kane. I read Timo Meier is his only friend on the team. The Sharks tried to trade Meier but they couldn't find a taker. The Sharks spoke to the Devils about Meier. The player is also owed a lot of money on his contract. His base salary is $4M(SJ paid a $2M signing bonus) this season and $10M in 22-23. Yep. $10M. Good luck. Winnipeg had a hard time finding a taker for Kane. Buffalo couldn't get a #1 pick for Kane but they ended up with a #1 pick when SJ signed Kane.

Doug Wilson has been trying to trade Kane. Nobody wants that guy.
Yep, Hertl is even disgruntled that the Sharks haven’t traded Kane yet which is why there are reports he might get traded before the season starts. Kane’s issues go back a long way. It’s too bad because I love his playstyle, one of my favorite players to watch. As for Meier, he would be a good rental for a contending team. He still has 2 years on his deal but I can’t imagine any team qualifying him at that cost, he likely hits UFA

He hasn't said a word about Igor's deal, Hanks retirement or Gilberts passing, amidst the prospect camp and Drury's presser.

It's an abomination for any team let alone an original six NYC market top 4 sport franchise

Frank believes the NHL salary cap will be $1o0M or in the high $90M's after the NHL players have paid off their debt to the owners.

Four seasons of flat caps after this season. Maybe three seasons.

8 year contract for Mika. The first 3-4 years in flat cap era. The cap will rise by the middle of Zibanejad's contract.

God no! Please no 8 years for Mika. He will be another Krieder contract
