Blais is still an underrated addition. If he plays well and has a breakout year with 35 or so points and continues playing his bull-in-China-shop type game he can fetch a high return for a contender ala Coleman/Goodrow. Already won a cup as well and still very young with upside remaining. Could salvage the Buch trade if he fetches a 1st which isn’t all that unlikely

I still don’t like the trade but I feel Blais has gotten 0 talk and people already don’t like him because of who he was traded for

Blais is most likely here for the next 3-5 years unless he goes full Adam Hall which would be a black eye on Drury's resume.

I think Vince kinda puts out too much stuff
I know he's trying to be productive and make a name for himself and he at least has lots of ideas about stuff to do but at some point it kinda feels like too much all at once

He was also on mat leave.

He's an up and comer. Same with Mollie. This is their time to develop as reporters and market themselves. Larry and Carp may both be done by 2025.

only singing I don't like is Tinordi. Smith could have been kept at that price.

why do the Rangers always have the need for a fighter that sucks at fighting

he gives me Steve McKenna vibes on defense. he better be in Hartford as a mentor.

its just about moving on . Nemeth replaces Smith

Tinordi likely gets waived at some point

Yeah I don't get it. He never really answers the questions, often just restates them in a vague way, he offers no insight, why bother doing a mailbag if you're not going to say anything?

I don't totally mind his actual articles but his tweeting and mailbags are just worthless

Someone even asked him if he saw any of the news that happened over the last three weeks and he actually answered it in a sarcastic way right at the top of his article.

bingo bingo broski. He’s not just a run of the mill 3rd/4th liner. He had success with ROR in a limited sample size. I have no doubt at least at some point this season he’s going to get an extended look with LaF/Panarin as his wing.
He’s an ideal player to do the dirty work role on a 2nd/3rd line and here also has the offensive chops to hang with more skilled players.
He’s def had injuries to deal with, but talking to some blues fans, it’s because he doesn’t know when to pull up a bit, and winds up injuring himself. Hopefully he can pick and choose his spots a little better in the future, because he can be a real asset for NYR.
He’s also got an underrated sneaky shot. Having an elite passer/playmaker, like Fox, Panarin, LaF. Etc get him the puck in scoring/shooting positions could really increase his point totals. All while still playing that hardworking physical style of play

Hot take of the day:

I hope this effort to get tough with Blais, Goodrow, Hunt, Reeves, and Tinordi doesn't backfire like the 08/09 season with Rissmiller, Fritche, Reitz, and Voros did.

Hertl would be the perfect center for the Rangers, he's basically excellent at everything, but the knees and age/contract length would certainly be a concern.
A 1-2 of Zibanejad - Hertl would be solid AF
That’s going to be tough to afford. Hertl going to get 8-9 mill per more then likely.
Larkin makes sense contract wise because he’s still signed for 2 full seasons. At that point trouba and Kreiders deals are on the verge of moving from NMC to MNTCs. So drury would only have to maneuver for a year or so before he can get a big deal off the books and give Larkin a raise.
Getting a center that’s going to play behind Zibby that makes 7 mill plus for 2 of the next 3 years is going to be a tall order

Big day tomorrow. The Habs have until tomorrow to make their decision on the Kotkaniemi offer sheet. The Habs haven't leaked anything.

Match the offer.

Don't match and take the two draft picks. 1st and 3rd.

Work out a trade with Carolina. The two teams discussed making a trade for Kotkaniemi prior to Carolina making the offer to Kotkaniemi. The Habs don't match the offer and they trade the picks back to Carolina for player compensation. Shayne Corson offer sheet in 1995. The Oilers and Blues worked out a trade after the Blues offer-sheeted Corson. Edmonton traded the draft picks to the Blues for Joseph and Grier. Chris Gratton offer sheet in 1997. The Flyers and TB worked out a trade. The draft picks back to Philly for Renberg and Dykhuis.

Does Montreal trade the draft picks for another player? The last trade in the NHL was on July 31.

The biggest issue with the shesterkin contract is it being up for renewal at age 29-30 right in his prime as a goalie and coming off 5.56. He’ll want a huge raise and it puts us in a terrible yet familiar spot because we did the same thing to ourselves with the Hank contracts.

To be honest id be surprised if Shesterkin was with us past this contract, they keep on drafting goalies and it seems like they looking ahead and saying we arent paying a goalie 8 mill anymore.

But Sakic is GM of the Avs now. Is he going to offer sheet Lafreniere in retaliation for an offer sheet that he signed?
Oh.
Right.
Good point.

Tinordi was actually solid for the Bruins last year and was really liked in a locker room with high character. I like this signing but yes, I would rather have Brendan Smith. Crazy that we didn’t give him another year especially after all the times he stepped up for us this past season. Whether it be the one to fight Wilson, or the time where we couldn’t get a shot on net against the Isles and then he starts shooting whenever he touched the puck because no one else wanted to. He was slowly becoming one of my favorite Rangers and had a great turn around story
Totally agree on Smith. Head-scratcher move there. I suppose there must be more to it. Maybe he was a divisive guy in the lockerroom. Completely speculating.

To be fair, his site has a paywall so there’s a volume angle at work, too.

If I’m the Habs I wouldn’t match that either. Kotka isn’t good and the only time he will be worth 6 mil is with this contract. Now going forward, his QO is also at 6 mil. Also with the fact that he took the $20 signing bonus and bought into a troll attempt on his team? Yeah I’d want him gone. Also his face pisses me off

Also I’m surprised we haven’t extended anyone yet when a majority of them are happening now

I prefer quality over quantity as well. The problem is that the other reporters deliver neither.

93% of NFL players are vax’d. 99% of team personal are as well.

And that changes what exactly? Also, where did you pull those figures from? The atmosphere? NFL "reporting" it? Either way....

Eighty-five percent of NFL players have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Kirk Cousins would rather surround himself with plexiglass than get the COVID-19 vaccine

MAYBE it's 93% now. But that's still 7% who aren't. That's a lot of players. Roughly 120 of them.
And the major reason that percentage went up is because of recent roster cuts. Not those guys who haven't, deciding they will finally get it.

Anyway, I think we are going to start seeing a little more pushback on the mandatory vax thing, as more data comes out. Less people are going to be ok with having to get boosters. And the more data that comes out of Israel and the CDC, showing regressive immunity, the less people will be ok with going that route. Not to mention that there's breakthrough infection rate at the moment and rising. I And even without a breakthrough, there's those asymptomatic and carrying. think it's 5 states that have reported near 20% when you combine breakthrough and asymptomatic carriers.Which is much higher than earlier immunity estimates. Meaning more asymptomatic incubators among the general public and more vaxed coming down with it.

The London study that's being reported recently, used a data set ending in July. So this is prior to the delta variant becoming more widespread. But they were reporting 0.5% and that has seemingly gone up since July. And obviously that's only reported cases. Usually meaning hospitalization or death. So there's really no way to determine the actual asymptomatic carriers that have been vaxed.

Since, the UK reporting 35% of Delta hospitalization cases have had 2 doses of vax. And that's probably the most troubling figure.

Israel, one of the most vaxed populations reporting 650 new cases/per million, a day since delta arrived.

So it's still going to be a problem even if they reach 100% vax numbers. It's not as simple as everyone has the vax, so that's that.

Nah, by all accounts he was a team-first and locker room guy. I think the Rangers wanted "sandpaper" as a 7th D and just wanted to move on. I liked Smith, too, and give him all the credit in the world for playing out of position and doing whatever the team asked him to do. I wish him luck.
