On the got yer back podcast last night they speculated that if Kane comes back before the playoffs they can't make any trades because they have no cap space.

Yep, they really botched this. They made moves in the offseason (not matching the offer sheets, trading Ceci) specifically designed to accrue cap space and now they're not accruing and are banking on a player who has already started skating, with a massive ego, to play nice and make sure he's not ready until the playoffs to have the cap space available to make a significant move. Not a good look. We'll see what transpires by March 7th to make a proper judgment but it's not headed on a good trajectory.
Meanwhile, due to the offseason moves. we're now stuck with a much older roster that has shrunk the Cup window significantly making this a true "all in" year, a year in which they might be stuck making a money in money out trade which will cost more assets to execute by offloading salary from what is already a bare minimum chest of assets. Not good
I've been saying all along to be patient with management because they have a plan but now I'm not sure there is a plan. It was bad enough bringing in Bowman for obvious reasons but if he botches the deadline on top of that, heads need to roll.

Yes, that's because the Sharks got convinced he was a legit goalie and offersheeted him, iirc. I like the bet the Hawks made, but I think they had a tough time in goal for a bit.
You aren't wrong though, the Oilers need another option, and a different goalie is possible. Not arguing that. Curious what happens.
Honestly, I complain, but that shouldn't be impossible.

Well they gave Holloway away for free to make sure they could accrue extra cap space for the deadline in the event of this exact scenario. Somewhere along the way here they called extra players up and abandoned that plan.
If Bowman and Jackson try to trot out this excuse they should be replaced.

What if we moved on from Bouchard?
(Hold on...it's just to not talk Goalies or think about them for one post)
Instead of investing in Bouchard at a possible 9-10 MM Contract,
trade Bouchard for a 50% retained Seth Jones.
IF Klingberg looks good, resign at 3-4 million for 3 years
Nurse - Jones
Ekholm - Klingberg
Kulak - Emberson
Different investment, and have Klingberg run the PP.
I know (I know) this does not solve the Goalie issue (I know)
As part of the trade, Schwartz goes with Bouchard.
What if we moved on from Bouchard?

Woof, lol. Terrible idea. Trading Bouchard to get rid of Schwartz is rough, plus those 2 other players aren't as good as Bouchard despite his flaws.

I assume they're looking at the goaltending, if they flat out are not, I guess we'll just see what happens lol. Certainly Not Ideal, but we have a few days before the deadline. Like someone could get hurt, change everything.
