The other problem is, who is Eichel gonna play with if he comes back to Buffalo? Is he gonna get a 90 point pace on basically a 3rd line? If he comes back at Christmas and only manages like a half a point a game, is his trade value higher or lower?

Most likely, yes but I think people are underestimating owner ego. The Sabres are essentially a tax write off for the Pegulas, I can see them “punishing” JE by keeping him in limbo forever. Is it wise asset management, no. They would maybe prefer to send a message.
I can absolutely see the battle of the wills. And though 50 mill is a ton of money, not to Pegula. I think it would kill him more to just let Eichel rot Earning 50 mill for 5 seasons. I know it’s very important to the fan base that they don’t have a ROR loss of a trade,
But letting him depreciate even further by letting a NMC kick in Is ass backwards.

Eichel has played his last game for the Sabres. They don't want him in that locker room. Any thoughts to the contrary are bogus.

So everyone just floats in purgatory.

Eichel doesn't get surgery and start his recovery

The Sabres continue to pay out the wazoo for a guy that won't play hockey for them

No one ups their trade package

Seems like a massive L for every party involved. If I was the Sabres I'd take the best package offered today and cut my losses.

Erixon in 2012 was more valuable than Robertson today.

Chytil and Anisimov are a toss up for me.

Strome's production is better than Dubinsky's at the time but that's about it.

But was that because Tim Erixon's value was exaggerated, overrated, inflated at the outset? I feel like, by the time he was with this organization, he had turned into something like while he wasn't a throw-in, he was a decent warm, quantity-over-quality body to throw into the package.

Actually it is a lot closer than you think. Dub's best year was 54 points and Strome's was 59 and that is if you are looking strictly at stats. From a + - perspective equal but Dubs was a far better defensive player. He killed penalties and had a decent amount of SH goals while Strome has benefited from PP time that last 2 years. And finally you can't dismiss the impact playing with Panarin has had on Strome's stats.

Erixon falling off a cliff after the trade doesn't change the fact that he was a highly touted defensive prospect at the time. 12 months prior they gave up two 2nd rd picks and Roman Horak for him, and in 2012 he came off a 33 point season in 52 games with the Connecticut Whale at age 20/21

The shorter recovery window most likely means it’s the artificial disc replacement surgery. I’d imagine most teams would allow him to get the ADR surgery anyways once Buffalo let’s them look at his medicals

I don't know about this. It's dumb, but no one wants to be first on these things.

HFNYR to Move On from Tob

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, HFNYR will move on from @Tob.

Tob, exact age unknown, joined HFNYR as a free agent in 2017. Initially a walk-on and without signing a contract, he offered to post on HFNYR for free.

Over the past four seasons, Tob was a profilic HFNYR poster, amassing over 9,300 posts and collecting over 15,500 likes along the way. He developed a reputation for his humor, and his likes-to-messages ratio was consistently tops among HFNYR.

Tob's posts were characterized by a quick wit and impeccable timing. One of his more memorable outings was an irreverent imagination of a frenzied day in the life of self-assured hockey pundit Rick Carpiniello during NHL free agency. His trademark "or I delete my account" posts often challenged impossible feats to occur from Rangers players during games, yet he continually managed to remain on the board and preserve his standing.

"Tob was a good HFNYR poster," said Gardner McKay, one of HFNYR's moderators. "He was a funny guy, but he got weird at times -- too much for me. We wish him well as he continues his message board posting career."

The HF Boards free agency period began last week, and rumors are already swirling around Tob's release. According to Brooks, the Canes, Jets, and Flames boards are said to be front-runners vying for Tob's services.

I guess you can say that he blue himself.

I'd much rather have Robertson arrive under the radar. I just really liked what I saw in his game at Traverse a couple (already?) years ago. I think he'll be a really decent, solid third-pairer if not second.

I can't believe people want to trade for Eichel before his neck situation is resolved lol.

That's like wanting to pay the new car price for a totaled car.

Uhhhhhhh....

1. Brisson isn't going to get opposing GMs to all of the sudden up the price they're willing to pay.

2. Is Eichel having the fusion now? Because all along the Artificial Disk Replacement surgery was talked about as having a 6-8 week recovery timeline, how is a surgery that happens any day now only having him ready by December which would be 14 weeks away?

I'd kill for a healthy Eichel on this team, but at this point, unless they're giving him away I don't want him. Let him rot on the sidelines.

Is Brisson like the #1 source for all of these reporters' scoops or something? They're all acting like he's Jesus Christ.
To point #2, I'm not sure I'm reading it correctly. But the timeline seems fine to me. 6-8 weeks to resume work outs. And I believe the bone starts to re-grow or fuse with the artificial disk. So another 6-8 weeks to get strength in the area and get into game shape.

Well there is a happy medium here and a lot of grey area isn't there? What if the cost is that of a new Hyundai Sonata but you are getting a TESLA Model X that needs a single new motor?

So lets say we trade Strome and Chytil (plus more) for Eichel. Who plays center behind Zibanejad while Eichel misses potentially the entire season? We're in a worse situation than when we started. Eichel sure as shit is missing significant time this year. We won't make the playoffs with a center depth of Zibanejad and literally nothing.
Then whats the center situation next season? Eichel (with a prosthetic neck or fused neck) and literally nothing.
Trading for Eichel makes absolutely no sense of you really sit down and assess the center situation.
Zibby + Strome >>>>> Eichel

Waiting for the "Can Othmann play center?" comments

I mean....can he?

I always have been and will be against trading for Eichel. It's not entirely the cost. It's obvious we can't play 12 d-men. It's the neck injury that scares the hell out of me.

Or maybe we can play 15 d-men...

Miller - Fox- Nils
Tarmo - Zib - Jones
Bitetto - Strome - Robertson
Tinordi - Rooney - Geertsen

Lindgren - Trouba
Nemeth- Schneider
Hajek - Skinner

Eichel has played his last game for the Sabres. They don't want him in that locker room. Any thoughts to the contrary are bogus.

The only thing that has me thinking otherwise is what if the Sabres are truly getting terrible offers rn and basically tell Eichel to get back on the ice to up his value or sit in the press box until he changes his mind

I guess thats one way of looking at it.

But it's a Tesla Model X that needs a single new motor right now but has also had to get an axel replaced, the gears keep on slipping, the trunk is stuck closed and the AC doesn't work.

Too much focus has been on Eichel's neck and not enough on the overall injury history. This isn't a player who is going to age well.
