I'm rooting for a match so JK will have to face the Canadiens media and fans. I don't dislike him or want him to suffer or anything like that for signing a lucrative deal. It'll be great drama for the next year in which he's protected from trade.

I expect that they'll match just for optics sake, try to damage control by saying that they believe in him and think he's going to be a huge part of the team next year.

Then when he fails to live up to the contract, they don't tender him another one, he signs in carolina next year for really cheap as a trochek replacement and then the media/fans start spreading rumors that he has substance abuse problems like they've done with pretty much every other player they've driven out of town.

Rinse and repeat for Suzuki and Caufield over the next few years.

I rather have this than the boring Rangers. Man, they really are the most vanilla team in social media, to the point other teams make fun of them.

Social media should be fun. All these teams interact with each other, well... almost all of them.
I don't think a majority of fans really care that much. Social media--Twitter and Instagram in particular--is like 60-70% people 35 and under, yet 60-70% of people who call themselves avid fans of sports are 35+.

There's obviously a young demographic that's into this kind of silliness and I know it's more "fun" than being all stodgy like our franchise is, but in the end it doesn't matter for anything. I think if you polled the MSG crowd, the people who (generally speaking) pump the most money into this franchise, and most of them wouldn't care if the Rangers abandoned social media altogether.

Yeah, I know the large majority doesn't care because they still get their news from the MSG feed on TV and the paper version of the NY Post. But what's the harm in mixing it up a bit? The Rangers really don't engage in anything online.

I don’t want the Rangers to start trolling on social media. In a world that’s been lost to this “woke”(More like Rip Van Winkle)political correctness bullshit I don’t want to see the Rangers start shit on there and then have everyone offended and then it makes headlines. Stay classy and boring.

Well, you can make things interesting without going straight to trolling. But it will never happen with the Rangers.

So Montreal doesn't match and trades us Carolinas first for Strome?
good thinking. No way they can go into what may be the toughest division in hockey with one legit center. Evans is a nice player but a 4th line center right now. Poor Suzuki. They have to match or find a way to trade for a decent 2c/3c which we all know is almost impossible right now

There used to be a hell of a lot more defensemen playing on their offside a decade ago than there are now. The devils ran 6 left d not too long ago.

Not sure the current trend of 3ld on the left and 3 rd on the right is going to stay this way for a long time
Yes. Was thinking this too. Is it really so crazy to have a righty playing on the left. Maybe when penalty killing, sure. But otherwise I’m not sure it’s such a big worry.

Yeah I think it’s been a bit of a leaguewide fad the past decade or so, I don’t think it is a strategy that will always necessarily be so pervasive

See I don’t know. The Rangers are an O6 organization. They should be classy and not resort to gimmicky stuff online. Imagine if they tweeted before the last Caps game some WWE memes or clips.

Odds are if they have Aho and KK signed long term, Necas could find himself as a possible trade candidate sooner rather then later.
The canes must have a lot of faith that KK is going to be an above average 2C relatively quickly by doing this offer sheet.
Because as you’ve said, they have certainly left themselves a little open now.
I doubt it. Teams almost always get rid of their bad deals before they are forced to move good young players. Even if they have to attach draft picks. It’s a huge mistake if they have to lose a player they don’t want to lose.

Well, there’s a middle ground. They could afford to make themselves a worthwhile follow, at least. Does anyone even follow them voluntarily?

At the end of the day it's all harmless. But, I do feel like when the "extracurricular" stuff gets arguably more attention than the move itself, that's silly. Makes it feel more like a stunt than an actual hockey move (and if that's the case, that's dumb).

Anyway I've said more than I really care to about this, so. Moving on.
