Hall Effect technology exists for controller that have almost no chance of developing stick drift unlike using a potentiometer. It is simply unacceptable that companies are cheapening out and using outdated technology.

For a long time, I believe Hall Effect sticks and parts were a bit too large for most controllers and can cost a bit. However, we're at a point where it's not only smaller, but much cheaper and accessible. Also, to edit something for you, Hall Effects cannot have stick drift. It's a completely different type of switch and technology and just uses magnets. So easy enough.

They can theoretically get stick drift just that it will never happen during the lifetime of the controller.

Plus Sega already used Hall Effect in their controllers in the Saturn and Dreamcast eras. Companies today have no excuse.

I believe Gulikit is working on a PS5 controller with Hall effect sticks, they already offer an XBOX one. But Sony, MS and Nintendo should be doing this themselves.

I bought this one for Switch/Nintendo emulation and it's become my daily driver since a few of the PC games I play seem to be really good at wearing out the analog sticks.

What games are you all playing that you're breaking the controllers constantly? I've never had one break or get stick drift or whatever, across all platforms for 30 years lol
I had stick drift once and never broken a controller. Must be some hardcore aggressive gaming to burn trough multiple controllers per console.

I've been considering getting one of these things for a while but I haven't touched my Switch enough lately to justify it. Definitely seems like an upgrade over Nintendo's pro controller. For less money, too.

The only controller I've had drift on was the one that came with an Nvidia shield which I hardly ever gamed on, and mostly used it to run a household plex server and to watch things off Kodi. Have never had an issue with my Playstation 5 or Switch controllers (knock on wood, as both were purchased in 2021), or any of the previous PlayStation controllers.

I get if you play high intensity games like FPS and maybe racing all the time it might mess up your sticks, but couldn't Sony/Microsoft or their third parties make a more durable controller for that audience, and market it as such? Or is that what the Elite controllers are for? I didn't bother really reading up on either of them because I find the prices ridiculous but I assume they're made from better parts and are easier to fix by yourself?

I think the OG elite controllers had many documented instances of drift. Not to the extent of Joy Con's but enough of a trend that it was an alarming trend for a controller that was marketed as the best possible controller and priced as such.

I was researching what I would take to make a better controller from scratch and one of the items I found was that the PS controller was designed for 10 year olds who don’t use it with as much power or force that you and I would do.

They’re great for kids and last a long time but have an expiration date for adults.

SSDs are dirt cheap. No excuse to not have one these days.
they probably gonna want it to work on Steamdeck though. Guessing Nixxxes will want to have some type of load screen for the portals for this port to allow for lower end hardware.

Although i will say i really expect this to bomb on PC. Sackboy got killed and PC isnt known for mascot games.

They should target 60 FPS as a standard instead of shooting for gimmicks like 8K.
Agreed, if Sony could manage to keep most games at 60 FPS the entire generation with a pro console that would be a huge win. But I would also have to wonder what kind of price tag that console would have as that would require a significantly more powerful SoC compared to the current PS5 (a much bigger jump than PS4 Pro was to PS4), unless this new console happens to use AMD's upcoming FSR 3 frame generation which would be pretty cool.

Yeah once we start getting UE5 games using the new features (Lumen and Nanite) and equivalents in other engines, 30 FPS will mostly likely be the standard again on PS5 and Series X.

Deaths door coming to PS plus is a major win in my books. Been meaning to pick that one up for a while now.
