Hearing good things about Star Rail if you're into turn-based JRPGs. 'Tis a gacha though so keep that in mind if need be.

edit: actually seems like the PS version might not be out at launch for some reason.

Hey, I've been out of gaming for awhile and have been kicking around getting a PS5. Can someone give me a decent idea of this thing's lifespan? Part of what holds me back is dumping $500 into this thing and having the PS6 announced next spring.
The thing is a beast. I've been running it non stop since launch and haven't had a single issue with it.

PS6 isn’t coming out for a looooooong time. Prices on graphics hardware has gone through the roof and doesn’t look like it’s coming down any time soon. PS6 is gonna be a real challenge to make if there ever is one. Could be all cloud by then.

I have started to have a loud(ish) noise form the PS5 when I turn mine on. Still works great and once i'm in game it settles. Just has me slightly concerned.

Anyone else experience this?

Disc or discless? I have the disc one due to ESO, and mine spins up on startup but then stops after about 30 seconds. Probably just the disc drive reading the disc.

Disc PS5. Feels odd because it didn't happen for the longest time and now is getting a little louder.

Not overly concerned, just wondering if there is a remedy .

Not really. It's just something disc drives do. My computers spin their drives all the time for a few minutes on start up as well.

Nothing to be worried about.

Wouldn't say that. The PS5 disc drive was actually mindblowingly loud at launch but software updates made it way quieter. I have a Day 1 PS5 and I dont even notice the disc drive now and play plenty on disc. Could be the dust in the fans. Pull off the side panels (you can just do it by hand no tools necessary, look it up online) and see if theres dust in there.

Is Kena BoS onky available until the end of the month, or on a service where it’s available for good (or at least until the contract runs out)?

Just only for free only on PS+ subscription service. You can still buy the game.
Sorry, I shoulda worded this better. I don’t know the tier names off the top of my head.

Is Kena one of those games you have to add to your library within a month or you miss out? Like Sacboy was.

I finished Nier: Automata sometime last week and have been doing some different endings. Great game and got only good things to say about it, except one major flaw. The map was really bad to use (which is a minor complaint) and for an open-world game, the structure was really bad (major flaw). What I mean by structure is the easiness of navigation or knowing where the hell you need to go. I was stuck, for almost an hour at times having to figure out what I needed to do in terms of story and how to actually get to the damn destination.

They would just label a random red dot on the map, but it would be forty stories down and I am like, "How the eff do I get there?" Then picture all these physical barriers where I would go to the red dot, but was blocked because there is another way to get there which I found forty minutes like having to go through Pascal's Village. The Robot Cult level towards the end of the game is a perfect example of this or having to fight Adam in the pixel universe by going down a random tunnel. It just came across as a mess in the end and side-stories also suffer from the same aspect. Fighting was beautiful though, one of the best fluid games I think I've played in terms of gameplay including ridiculously fun boss battles.

Very curious since Sony hasn't shown anything major first-party since September 2021 (outside of Burning Shores at the Game Awards). My guess is they close with Spider-Man 2 gameplay like they did God of War at the last showcase. No idea if they show Final Fantasy XVI again, they could since it's dropping in a couple weeks, same with Street Fighter 6 (although that isn't console exclusive). My best guess is we get some Wolverine, FF 7 remake 2, and possibly the Naughty Dog Faction's game. Real question is what possible surprised they could have like they did with Wolverine last time. Would be cool to see whatever Naughty Dog's primary team is working on (and is it Last of Us part 3), same with Sucker Punch (Ghost of Tsushima 2). Both those are two very reliable AAA studios who haven't released a game in 3 years now, so it might be time to show something. Same with Bluepoint. I wouldn't expect anything from Santa Monica or Guerilla as they both recently released games unless it's DLC related. Possibly something from the 2 new studios (Haven and Firewalk).

Hopefully this showcase delivers, but I'll probably be hyped alone off of Spider-Man 2 with a release date in 2023. I am curious if they have a mic drop moment like they did with Wolverine at the last one.

We could also see the leaked Horizon multiplayer game and/or Horizon Zero Dawn remake. Personally I'd like to see Demon's Souls or Ratchet and Clank on PC.

I think we'll get atleast one big PC port. Just forgot to mention it. While I'm on PC, I'm also on PS5 and have been in the PS ecosystem way longer than PC gaming, so the hope of a PC port doesn't immediately jump to mind. Hopefully, you guys get something good. Could also see it being Ghost of Tsushima. Possible but highly unlikley Horizon:Forbidden West or God of War: Ragnarok (they'll come but probably not this fast).

A lot of rumors about a Metal Gear Solid remake (mostly believed to be 3). Curious if that would be Bluepoint or a 2nd party deal. Personally, I'd want it to be Bluepoint, as I think they are unreal at that type of work, but a 2nd party deal where it's published by Konami gives hope to players in other ecosystems that they may be able to play it, so it's a catch 22.

Some "out of left field" from me are Destiny 3 announced for next gen systems (and PC) only, a release date for Eiyuden Chronicles, and Suikoden and Persona remakes. More likely news is a FFXVI demo drops and Yakuza 8 details.

A Persona 3 remake has been leaked/rumored for a while, dunno what the timeline on it would be though given Atlus typically doesn't work fast.

the belief is that anything Persona shown would likely be at an MS event. I think when they got Persona 5 over to X Box, Atlus signed some sort of marketing deal with X-Box.

2nd/3rd party stuff shown would likely be Square or Capcom stuff, as those are the two companies Sony tends to do the most marketing deals with (previously Activision too, but we know how that's going).

They already have the engine thanks to Persona 5 and the story is already written so that should speed up the process.

Me, wondering when it'll be worth spending half a grand on a PS5 reading this:
