Elden Ring has been out for like five months now and Sony still hasn't put it sale once for us digital customers, even though the disc has been dropped to 50 a few times. Yea, I know, even when a sale does happen it'll be for only 10 dollars off, it's still annoying and highlights ridiculous policy regarding digital sales in general. To my knowledge, they still don't sell those cards that have digital games on them in stores like Nintendo and Microsoft do, they feel the need to control the price at all times or something.
Physical kings rise up.

Although I bought it at full price, lol.

I struggled a lot to find anything for PS5. A lot of the games were severely overpriced (who is paying 70 dollars for a video game? Are you Elon Musk? Bezos?) but finding MultiVersus (2022) for free has really "dusted off" my previously dormant PS5!

I'm still appalled at some of these prices for the newer games so I guess it will mostly be freemium games until they want to lower the prices until people can actually afford them. The PS5 inflation is real!

If you can get it for retail, yes it is. It's far superior to Xbox currently.
The Xbox gamepass is making me regret the purchase a bit. Even though they always throw shit like Madden and NHL on AT THE END OF THE SEASON. Put that on the gamepass when the game drops! Who is waiting 8 or 9 months (or in the case of football 4) just to play the latest Madden or NHL?

Games have been 60 for quite awhile so going up to 70 for some is the price of the hobby. Did you ever have a SNES or N64? Now some of those prices were worth complaining about.

The Game Pass equivalent on PS is just as good, it just doesn't have the name recognition so people just assume it's worse.

PS5 games are more expensive than their PS4 counterpart where i live. The upcoming God of War Ragnarök, is $10 more on PS5 than the PS4 version. Same story with Horizon Forbidden West and even Ghost Of Tsushima which is a game that was originally released on PS4. Having to pay some sort of tax for higher resolutions and a few other features; just sounds crazy to me.

Xbox GamePass will get better. However, they need to realize that people aren't going to buy consoles if they don't give them a reason to. Not having exclusive console games hurt them and they didn't even realize it until way after launch. They can't just be PC centric. They have to focus on the console as well.

Every Xbox release had a new game that was released on day one of console launch that showed off the full features of the console. They didn't with X|S.

As for PS5. You get your money's worth for the games you play. Every game I've played is MORE than worth the price I paid for it.

I rarely buy a game new and at full price anymore. It will take a lot to get me to pay $70 for a game especially since whenever I do that it seems like the game gets heavily discounted or becomes free via PS monthly pass.

I loved God of War but I'm not going to spend $70 on Ragnarok even if it gets great reviews because I know it will be discounted in a few months. God of War itself is free this month or last month for example and I paid $70 for that and there's really no "rush" for me to play games like that.

I’ve had my PS5 since day 1 buying it off the Sony site and in my own mind it just feels like a flop to me. I mean there’s nothing wrong with it at all but I haven’t been excited about too many new games. And most of the games I’ve played with it aren’t dedicated to the PS5 or anything.

It could also just be my own enthusiasm for games or maybe I’m not about this era of gaming with the free to play and all the transactions and stuff dominating a good portion of stuff out there.

There's definitely a lull in games right now, so many have been moved to next year. There are only a handful of PS5 dedicated games and we're quickly approaching the two year mark of the system being out. Microsoft is going through the same thing, though, as their big hitters like Halo and Forza are still showing up on the "old" platform, but that's for another thread.

Horizon really tempered by expectations for God of War, I think it will be more of same because it's also tied to the last console, the gameplay wasn't allowed to change much at all.

I'm hoping that some dedicated games come out for the newer systems, soon, I'm looking for that Destiny 1 to Destiny 2 jump that happened when they finally left the old systems behind for good and you got some massive new environments and gameplay that just wasn't possible in the PS360 era.

I imagine the pandemic and chip shortages have played a role in so much still being released on PS4, but I guess I don't have a good understanding on the life cycle of game development.

I have a PS5, but I skipped over the entire PS4 generation. Bored over lock down, I decided to buy a console and it just wouldn't have made sense to buy a previous generation console. This has helped me keep the game cost down, though, because there are so many older games that are cheaper. The only new game I bought was Elden Ring. Everything else I got on PS+, bought used, or bought on heavy discount on the store. I've got a shit ton more to go through before I need to start buying new games, too

I just said the same thing in another thread. It's going to be "If you liked the first one, you'll like this one. If you didn't, this isn't going to change your mind."

That’s an EA thing. They don’t let the games come to Gamepass until the season is over.

The games since launch have been awesome.

The game launches in the past few months have been pretty meh.

It depends on your tastes. Personally I hate returnal, ratchet and Clank and demon souls were good though.

Sackboy and Miles Morales were good too but they're on previous gen and look good there too.

Personally I can't go back, but if you're happy on previous gen hold back for now.

I think over the years I just get way more picky nowadays too. The style of game of repeating through the same loop just never interested me. I believe death loop and returnal are like that no?

HZD SHOULD be up my alley but I couldn’t get into the story whatsoever. Cyberpunk was a game I was super excited for and I didn’t hate it, but defintely did not live up to the hype of what they said they would do with the game.

I did absolutely love RDR2 though I should go play it again. Loved the slower pace and the game style was right up my alley. Ghost of Tsushima was also another game I really enjoyed.

I agree with all of this.

You might like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Decent story and the combat stays pretty fresh throughout. I played both Ghost of Tsushima and Fallen Order back to back and while Fallen Order definitely wasn't as good as Ghost of Tsushima it was still really good.

Jedi Fallen Order is good but buggy, but there's constant checkpoints so no big deal.

Ghost of Tshushima is great but it looks the exact same as on base PS4 like I can barely tell the difference. Still a solid game despite some criticisms I have.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West....are not good. I couldn't really put my finger on HZD I felt like it was bad but didn't want to say it. With forbidden west I'm ready to say that these games are not good.

Returnal is an Homage to classic coin op video games. It's fun, frustrating, and challenging.

The PS5 upgrade on SWJFO was one of the worst ever. Don't pay full or half price for the next gen version. Like all EA games, they rushed it out the door before it was ready.

What HFW game did you play? The main story and all the side quests (and the killer weapon rewards) made the game REALLY fun to play. It's a great sci-fi story as well.

I will say though that this MultiVersus is getting the most PS5 play time I have had since I purchased a PS5. Otherwise it'd just be sitting downstairs unused.

The music function for the PS5 seems to be the biggest benefit for me. I'm sure you could do it on an Xbox Series too but you couldn't do that on a PS4, just blare Spotify while playing games. The way it seamless integrates with the PS5 button menu is great too. Biggest compliment I have about the PS5 so far.

My issue that I've never been able to fix other than manually turning down the volume while in game is that my game audio continues to play even while I have Spotify going. I've been wanting to play UFC 4 or MLB the Show while listening to podcasts but can't find a way to prioritize Spotify audio over game audio across all games on the console.

I was really disappointed by Fallen Order. The story was meh, controls (especially the slides and jumps) i felt were buggy, and the combat was uninspired. Plus the fact you couldn't double jump until 3/4 the way through the main story was annoying. Still pushed through and got the platinum though.
