Myrtetus, I’m guessing he’s slightly older than me, comes from a time where there was a definitive split between Flyers and Sixers fans, for a lot of reasons, in general it was true of a lot of Flyers fans of all Philly teams post-Lindros, so it doesn’t surprise me, if for anything because I am guilty of it too, so I know it when I see it. It was really all over the place here, people here who were around then may know too.

Myrtetus uses the oilers sabres and coyotes as evidence that a Tank is useless cause it isnt a 100% sure thing. Its laughable to argue this way. But he does it over and over!

don’t ask why…

Got into it with a few questions, to Myrtetus/Dimarco on the live chat portion of the stick2hockey podcast.

Mentioned how fans are upset because the Flyers continue this path of perpetual retool after perpetual retool, not committing to a true rebuild to acquire high end talent. That fans could handle a rebuild of there was transparency.

JM: “Bullshit”

Was Myrtetus not paying attention circa 2015? Fans happily embraced Hextall's plan to not compete and acquire draft picks. Maybe it was not a true "rebuild," but there was transparency and fans accepted that it was the correct thing to do.

They’re one in the same. Things take time and during that rebuild they still were making the playoffs.

No, they're not.

We were also making the playoffs in 2014, which clearly was not acceptable in the fan's, and even in Hextall's, view.

Who's Brian
Just some guy on Twitter who attempted to call out the Flyers media dipshits on their lies and bullshit, but they all blocked him because he dared to criticize the team and use spooky scary numbers to back up his statements.

Luckily he has a friend who just joined Twitter and does pretty much the same thing, except he’s not blocked by the idiots yet.

I'd happily - and by that I mean ecstatically - watch this team if I had anything at all to root for. That doesn't mean squeaking out enough wins to hang around a playoff berth. I'd much rather watch a young team with promising talent and a clear well-crafted plan struggle through a few rebuilding seasons as they cleared out cap space, acquired futures, and developed impactful cost-controlled NHLers over this total no future shit team trying desperately to pass itself off as merely mediocre.

Mediocrity is the thing I refuse to accept, not rebuilding. I have little-to-no interest in watching the first game of the season. That would have been completely unthinkable for me at any point in time in my prior 35 years of being a dedicated Flyers fan. I simply don't care, and I'm angry about that. I'm actively angry that these idiots have taken this away from me through their sheer incompetence.

Also the caveman fans who are afraid of numbers are still somehow trying to pretend Ristolainen is good and crying about analytics

“Risto is a good hockey player. He’s just stupid.”

A bad team that’s still entertaining to watch, with youth playing and not dinosaurs blocking them, with picks down the line and a light at the end of the tunnel is not only watchable but fun to watch. Even when they lose, because you’re going to see progress.
This team and staff are the muck at the bottom of swamp water. There’s no light to be found, there’s no progress to see, there’s next to no youth being inserted in the lines.
Yet I’ll be at the game tonight, not exactly by choice, and I won’t be spending a dime.

Are fans of other sports this rabidly against stats?

I don’t pay close enough attention to advanced stats of other sports to notice.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand them. I’ve never taken the time to try, but I’m ok with that.
I’m fairly confident I can tell the bad from the great, the bad from the good and the good from the great. That’s all I feel I need in that aspect.

Yeah, completely understandable. I was the same way for a long time.

The problem isn’t people who don’t use or don’t understand them, the problem is:

1) the people who don’t understand them so they scream that nobody else should use them either
2) people who use them wrong on purpose

Sports are rationalization fuel. A fan will convince himself or herself that the team is watchable because they're conditioned to want to watch. Frankly, it's habit. "The team has a chance if X, Y, Z go their way"......"The young talent is growing"......"They play a fun system, short on talent, but they're rebuilding."

It takes a special team to pop the rationalization like a balloon before 1 game is played. Even during the Hextall era, turgid as many games were, the rationalizing was there: "Get rid of Hakstol, play the kids, make some moves, this team could win some rounds." The idea fans can't have some fun during a well run rebuild is patently false -- because they can rationalize it.
