Everyone is so pissed because all the Flyers do is try to desperately hold on to the good times back in the primordial 70s.

Every year they sign a "tough guy" player who, in fact, is useless. Every year they bring back former Flyers into the organization as scouts/coaches/developmental personnel/etc. Every year they bring back the advisors who were all a part of the primordial 70s. This year, they brought back the bUrNt oRaNgE. They bring back the double logo. They bring back coaches who haven't coached in years. They bring back past their prime players. Eventually, they'll bring back Doop.

This is all the f***ing problem. This is why some people are annoyed at the ice, of all things. This iteration of the Flyers is too proud to do anything but let go of the good ol days. They are too proud to look forward. They're too proud to tank, they're too proud to make off the wall 3rd jerseys (for example), they're too proud to hire new, going coaches or execs. They're too proud to build a roster that follows the blueprint of success throughout the league. The way they operate will never bring back winning. They're entitled to what they got when they played here when John Lennon was alive, 5 years after the (@Jack Straw) FIRST moon landing.

It's all so disgusting.

That part is the real tragedy. They are just catering to the Hoovers that vacuum this shit right up. They know their crowd.

You are a wise man. Not only do I have zero problem with it, I would have done this too and it’s not because it matters one tiny bit.

This is a superb job from the *gasp* marketing arm of the org. It’s a change that costs them almost nothing in upfront investment from a money or time standpoint. New fans could not possibly care or are likely to even notice. It will be endlessly trumpeted by people who you’re not paying and plays phenomenally to a section of the fanbase that will feel underappreciated no matter what you do.

Basically what I’m saying is that the non-hockey parts of the Flyers org just got one over on the people that hate them most. Those who think this signals something are the ones unable to look at these things from any perspective but their own. It’s sad, but I’m sure as shit not worrying about it for a nanosecond. I’ll stay in my nice cozy cage while all of this passes by.

They changed the logo. Report that. Don't wax poetic about the organization as if it means anything other than that. ASF and Russ Joy openly changed their stances regarding the organization the second that Keith Jones was hired. Why do you think that is?

Because the increscent whining is ridiculous. This team sucks and the organization sucks. But need to just complain for the sake of complaining constantly about everything (up to and including an off-season post from beat writers being excited about a new center ice logo) is just ridiculous.

Beat writers exist to report on the team. They want people talking about the team. That keeps them employed. I don't know what you believe a beat writer's job is or what they should be doing (I guess not trying to generate interest or not trying say positive things?). What do you want our beat writers to do when the Flyers issue a press release on something like this? Just retweet the press release?
