I'll never understand why the women love to shoot High. You watch a men's PK and it 95% hard and corner. 4 balls skied in 11 shots is atrocious.

The women may not be able to hit it as hard, and maybe that plays into the decision to ahoot for placement, (thoughts @Appleyard ) but a GK reaction is beatable still for women. I dont think anyone realizes how little time you have as a keeper in that situation until you actually try to block one.

Also: Congrats to Chelsea women's keeper Musovic and former Captain Eriksson on advancing!

It is I believe due to ball speed and probably the analytics from it.

A shot above the mid-point of the goal is a goal 95% of the time in a shoot-out, no matter where you put it, as as soon as a goalie moves it is basically physically impossible to get a ball that is above ~4ft unless hit right at you.

Most penalties from male players are close to 80 mph, with few below 70 mph.

If a male player puts it inside the post on the floor it is basically always a goal even with a big goalie who dives the right way... as making up 12 feet of ground even if ~6'5 with a big wingspan means like a 8.25ft reach... and the ball hit at ~80mph travels the 12 yards in 0.31 seconds, which is only slightly more than the reaction times of pro goalies, which will be around ~0.2 seconds. So have to anticipate, dive right way and make up ~3.5ft somehow in that first movement (0.1 seconds)!

And the average goalie is 6'2 and not 6'5... which adds to the impossibility really.

So in mens football? Bottom corner AND above 4ft mark are both basically automatic goals. And shooting low has less variables for error really.

But womens players shoot at around ~85% of the speed of mens, so the "harder" penalty kicks will probably be around ~65-67mph. And the maths for that? 0.38 seconds. Which give the ~0.2 seconds reaction time and then another 0.18 seconds to move... so that 15% loss of speed in womens penalties really means DOUBLE the time for a goalie to move after responds to visual stimuli.

And while male goalies on average probably have a span of ~8ft... women goalies are on average about 5'9, so will have a span of ~7ft 7... and really the extra time is comfortably enough to make up those 5 inches and more.

So I guess that is why. If a womens goalie goes the right way on a low, drilled shot there is probably a chance it will be saved. With mens? Basically no chance if at close to 80 mph and in right spot.

That makes a lot of sense. I’m always a believer that if you hit the side netting, it’s a goal. I can see how that might not translate to the women’s side due to the information you referenced

I had a feeling you would have the anlytics behind it. Appreciate it!

Still feel a well taken penalty is mostly insaveable in the womens game as well, but as you showed, it's at least more saleable. Still 100% reliant on taking the right guess AND getting to the corner to boot, no small task to be sure.

Did you see your boy Reece’s sister pull a complete brain fart? Too bad because she was having a great tournament. Would not be surprised if the suspension is more than one game if they advance.

That’s what I thought. Don’t see how it is only one.

Side note: tough luck for the new striker you guys got from RB.

Yeah, less than ideal. He was going to be a key cog for us (he technically plays as a 10, but can play anywhere in a 3-1 setup in theory).

Have to hope Chukwuemeka is ready to step up, or they sell Gallagher and go grab someone like Veiga or Kudus, though he's more of a Right then a true CAM.

I figured key was meant to be an impact player from the get go, especially with how you guys lacked that striker last season.

Any thought on the Danish playerUnited brought in? Like what I read about him and vaguely remember him on international duty.

Nicholas Jackson looked REALLY good up top this pre season. I'm not saying he's the answer, but im comfortable with him up there. Nkunku was going to create space and pressure behind him and the two linked up well when played together. Having to wait another year for that now sucks. As a plus, one of our 900 new young midfielders will get a chance it looks like.

Admittedly dont know much about him. I dont hate myself enough to watch Serie A, so I can only go off his scouting reports. My guess is he takes a yesr to settle in and then he'll be fine.

I know there are hosers in here that watch Serie A. I only care about Napoli when it is convenient to watch. What say you about the Danish kid going to United? Snarky answers are obvious but I still need that mayonnaise to build my BLT

Looks like Kane to Bayern is going to happen after all.

They don't need him to win the Bundesliga, but adding Kane would make them a serious threat in the Champions League.

It really seems like he is using Munich to get the deal he wants from Spurs. The clubs have agreed on a fee. I can’t believe Munich would put this much energy and money on the line unless they thought personal terms with Kane were done.

Or not...

We're all puzzled.

Lol if after weeks of negotiations and media talk and the teams finally reaching an agreement Kane decides he'd rather stay he would make everyone look like complete idiots, including himself.

I can't see it. I think if Bayern weren't absolutely certain he was willing to join them, they would've gone after another player already. They need a central forward and the league starts next week.
