This isn't a Toronto vs Edmonton thing - he got to play with fantastic linemates there too - but he's grown as a player since then.

He's controlling pucks and actually driving plays way more than he used to. And while the McDavid effect (and Draisaitl effect, even Bouchard effect, Nuge effect) are real, anyone who thinks Zach is a product of teammates seriously hasn't been watching him this season.

Was just going to write this. McDavid has had some pretty good wingers: Kane, Nuge, Eberle, Hall, Lucic, Neal, Maroon. No 40+ goal seasons from them, though Kane probably could have, had he played an entire season in 2022 (22G in 43GP and then another 13 Playoff goals in 15GP!)
Hyman just works (he also works with Drai or RNH too) - such a great piece for the Oilers

Absolutely. And anyone who thinks he doesn't make the team is out of their mind.

He's second in NHL scoring (3 less games than Reinhart), and plays a defense first game. Plus he may very well get 90 points this year as he's starting to heat up with 10 goals and 14 points in his last 8 games. You don't f*** with that - is Hyman this good without McDavid? Probably not... But why mess around and experiment with chemistry when you know he's one of the best players in the world to ever play with McDavid?

Plus you just know that you're getting with Hyman - he's the hardest working guy on the ice on every shift, consistently. He wins every battle, is the first to every puck, is literally the most wholesome positive person ever, and would give his left nut just to win any given shift.

Scotty Bowman once said that winning the Olympics is about which countries super stars can come together and play like grunts. Hyman embodies that.
