This regime needs to get broomed. Good luck attracting any free agents! What a culture!!!
Since Jan. 1st, team save %:
90.21% (20th in the NHL)
5v5: 91.44% (24th in the NHL)
Previous year and a half save %:
91.62%(3rd in the NHL)
5v5: 92.87% (4th in the NHL)
Hope this helps you realize the reason the team has been .500 for a while now. Many other teams fare far worse with that big a drop in as major area. Luckily, the team D has improved somewhat (I still love the Muzzin pickup) and underlying defensive numbers look noticeably better this year than previous years.
I don't know if many of you realize that the average player only has the puck on his stick for 20 seconds a game so between 18 guys on 2 teams that represents 12 minutes per game. There are 48 minutes per game where the puck is on no ones stick. The goalies may have it or it is flying around the ice. Now that is an average so more skilled guys like a Tavares may have it for 35 seconds and Goat maybe 5 seconds. and the numbers have not changed. The top guy in league Barzal holds it for 72 seconds per game.1) in a hockey game you never have the puck all the time. It’s a false idealistic view. Even a dominating 70% time of possession would result in the other team having the puck for almost a full period.
2) with all of the video work and possession geniuses in the background that bring players in based on their direction, you really think a coach can freely dictate a style of play? For example, if he said screw it... run and gun and thats that... there would be no pressure from within the organization?
This team is going to tread water all season and just barely miss the playoffs.
Babcock won't get fired until May at the earliest. I wish this site had signatures for posts then I just put this in there but as I keep saying, Babcock won't get fired until after the season is over. Dubas will not fire him mid season because that would shift the pressure on to him, and Dubas is not interested in that. He he is managing to keep his job so he wants to drag out the Babcock era as long as possible because this way he has the baked in excuse of "not getting to hire his guy".
Dubas is almost as bad as Burke. Only saving grace is he hasn't started trading first round picks yet.
How deep into the koolaid do you have to be to still support Babcock? He’ll go back to detroit and we’ll move on. Next is Dubas and Shanahan....
Looks like we both have the same issues.Nobody in Detroit wants Babcock back. Especially fans. With Holland gone, it seems unlikely anyone in management would either.
Enjoy the rest of the season with him. We currently have our hands full with his more incompetent clone.
Wow, that would be an overreaction, wow.How deep into the koolaid do you have to be to still support Babcock? He’ll go back to detroit and we’ll move on. Next is Dubas and Shanahan....
Ask Detroit fans about Cleary and Abdelkader. He had his dream bottom-6 in Detroit.
Make no mistake, it was Lamoriello and Hunter that created the team and mindset that brought the Leafs to their highest point total in team history. Enter Dumbass, who I guess Shanahan thought would be, oh so, 2018 to have a young, groovy GM. Probably parties with the Leaf youth. Certainly overpaid them all. Discipline is the thing that old f***ers bring to the table. Make'em shave, wear suits to work, treat female security guards with respect. These guys are not mature enough to do that on their own. Show me a disciplined, hard working and respectful group and I'll show you a winner. This team has none of that.
The Babcock proteges around the league sure are looking pretty right now.
Todd McLellan stunk up the joint in Edmonton so they ditched his ass and they're 1st in the West. Meanwhile, he goes over to LA and they look even worse than last year.
'Ole Jeff Blashill over in Detroit seems to have made precisely zero progress with the Wings' structure whatsoever. Thanks to his incompetence dealing with Tatar they ended up giving the stinky Habs a pretty damn good player. Just looked over on the Wings board and they've had enough of him.
I wonder how Babcock's feeling about his "not enough puck to go around" ideology seeing the Bruins' top line dominate the league en route to 10-1-2 start to the season.

Dubas needs Mr. T just as bad.The team needs a new voice in the lockerroom. Mr T , maby? "I pity the fool who dont do as i say"
This might be the most irrational “boomer” post that I’ve seen on this board. Not to mention off topic.
Anyways, daily reminder that Babcock needs to be fired and has underachieved almost every year here despite now having two top 10 centres, a top 10 winger, a top 10 defenseman and goalie (with plenty of depth I might add).
when we had McBackup and Fred wasnt october Fred our special teams sucked (lost the Boston series because of it)
there was no team defence in sight ever
babcock was outcoached numerus times
good goaltending can mask a tonofbull**** but the fact is this team is a .50 team at best/since Dec 2018
and its on the coach because we have different players/different assistant coaches.
babcock is the only thing what remained the same
It's clearly personal with a lot of these people. I think at the base level it's seeing a younger person in charge that rubs them the wrong way.
