This.

Also, I hope Dubas picks the best coach available, rather than simply handing the reigns to Keefe because of their two person not-that-old boys club that dates back to their Soo days.

I hate this presumption that a successful AHL coach is a guarantee in the NHL.

Does nobody remember Dallas Eakins?! That wasn’t even a long time ago.

Different era
Weak excuse
No but it helps if players buy in to his approach
You're not inherently wrong, but we don't know exactly how the players feel towards his approach, especially seeing as the Leafs have reached 100 or more points the past 2 seasons . Go look at someone like Barry Trotz's record in the playoffs before winning the cup with the Capitals . Does that mean those teams and players didn't buy into his approach because they lost? I don't know really

You know you can just watch how his teams play right? They have more structure, puck support, and better controlled breakouts. It's a pretty standard NHL-style approach for a skilled team, it's not like we're talking about a guy trying to re-invent the wheel with Eakins' "swarm defense" garbage.

I haven't seen Keefe irrationally decide he hates a guy and refuse to play him, and I haven't seen Keefe try to force players to abandon their strengths so they can play his system in a box. That's already a massive improvement.

And now the Ducks have more wins than the Leafs.

It's very possible that Keefe isn't the answer, but I think it's much safer to say that Babcock isn't

I hate Babcock and want him fired for literally anybody. Don't take my skepticism of the AHL coaching pipeline as a defnce of Babcock because it definitely isnt.

Eakins' team is currently performing better than Babcock's, so he is obviously doing something right. Just like he was doing something right back with the Marlies when he was the hottest coaching prospect in the game.

I'm sure he's adjusted and improved a little but I'm gonna go ahead and wait before I let a 10 game sample vindicate a guy who ran the worst defensive system in the NHL for a full year. Gibson hides a lot of issues with that team.

This team no longer responds to Babcock.
My question is... what is Dubas waiting for because nothing is going to change as long as he is the coach ?
He knows that it's on him if the next coach doesn't have any success. He wants to keep Babcock in charge for as long as possible while trying to come up with some ideas how to undo what he has done in my opinion.

It's valid. Back then, strict coaches worked well, but today players are a lot more controlling.

On the other hand sitting back and doing nothing while this **** show continues I think would be a bigger strike on him. It’s been like this for a year now. 99% of the coaches would drool over having this roster to work with. Dubas built his roster to win this year, and if they miss the playoffs or exit yet again in the first round, that will make him look a lot worse. At least getting rid of Babcock, he is trying to get this team on the right track. You cant fault a GM for that IMO.

Rumour is, he wanted to fire Babcock in the summer, and was shot down by Shanahan/BOG.

Which does seem consistent with the fact that Dubas wouldn't commit to him coming back at the end-of-year press conference, and then a week later, said he was coming back.

I hope for Dubas' sake he did not build this team to win this year. He cannot be that bad of a judge surely.

Every thing 30 other fanbases and a lot of media predicted would happen is happening. The Leafs are far too weak to get anywhere in the playoffs. No amount of spreadsheets can mask that the team is too weak.

I complied the Leafs record (2015 to present) on back-to-backs under Babcock.

Not true. After the trades this summer, just about every sports network had the Leafs as a legitimate cup contender. Not only that every betting site that I seen had the Leafs in the top 5 and some had them as best odds. It’s only now with this ****show continuing are those expectations lowered. Babcock is on the hot seat and for good reason. If this continues, he is gone, as he should be.

Its weak especially considering the Leafs have made the playoffs in 3 straight seasons, including 2 100 point seasons. Not that I think being a hardass 100% of the time works, but we don't know how hard Babcock actually is and we don't actually know how the players genuinely feel about playing under him. To me, I'm not exactly sure they've turned on him when they just had 100 points last season

What's the norm out of curiosity?

That actually seems pretty good, doesn't it?

One of the few games I don't blame Babcock on, but over aggressive pinching is a system problem.

He had a chance to stand up for his team today. Instead he just agreed with Ovi.

He hasn’t learned anything from last season. Just blame everyone else :shakehead

Ovi spoke the truth and came across more like tough love than an insult. Pretty sure that's the message Babcock's been preaching all this time.
