Islanders are about to win their 7th straight game...while playing guys like Matt Martin, Clutterbuck, Komarov and heck even Ross Johnston every night.
And we couldnt even let Martin play a single game against the Bruins 2 seasons ago.
Goes to show thats not about just players. Trotz is just a far better coach than Babcock
The hard work vs. high paid curve:Same Islander team being led by a dinosaur while we are being led by a GM who is ahead of the curve ??
Babcock is envious? He had Matt Martin, scratched him for 18 games straight, so the Leafs had to trade him. Under a competent coach like Trotz, Martin is playing his roll well and the Islanders are on a 7 game winning streak while we look lost and disorganized, even though on paper we are a much better team. They compete every night. Every second of every shift is everything they’ve got. I’m sure Babcock is envious.
It’s almost like Lamoriello recognizes that character and work ethic are just as important as speed and puck skills? It’s almost like those different player types at the bottom create a more diverse group that can do more?
Dubas might catch on, eventually.
They need to act quickly to bring in a new coach. It has worked wonders with the PowerPlay. Since they brought the new guy in, it's damn near unstoppable.
Babs stubbornness has me thinking he may have checked out. If so, let's get on with it and bring in the boy Wonder's coach sooner than later. If that fails, time to send Dubas back to the Soo and put Shanny on the hot seat. All this crap is happening under his watch after he handed the reigns to Dubas.

So what you're saying is, on one hand, on the PP our head coach has basically told our PP coach not to get involved because he knows better, the GM is OK that this is happening despite him hiring said PP coach. The players are listening to Babcock, thus deploying the drop pass on the PP, despite bad results for 18 months. In Fairness to the new coach...some other kind poster actually spent the time to watch the Panthers PP from last year and didn't see any drop back passes...let alone the double drop that is so far back the camera doesn't see the player getting the puck because he is in a different area code. So, if he didn't do them last year and had the 2nd best PP...what happened? we used the infamous drop back for the whole time Hiller was the coach. So this new guy comes in and does the exact same thing as Hiller....is anyone else putting this together? Did he call Hiller and ask for tips or does Babs feel this is the best way to gain the zone?
I keep saying this but Craig Button said it best "The Leafs are told to apply pressure, pressure and MORE mindless Pressure." I couldn't put my finger on what it is about our style of Defense that sucks and is ineffective...but that seems to sum it up. Nobody really knows what to do or who to cover because they are all looking to go after the puck carrier like a moth to a flame. How many times do you see the other guys get open because 2 or more Leafs are watching the puck carrier and ignoring their guy? They never bloody turn their heads to look around and see what's happening behind them.
If you're a player and you feel the system is bad and you keep getting blamed for not working hard enough...eventually your gonna pack it in and say "enough of this clown show" and stop trying as hard....they may be millionaires...but they are still human after all.

However, on the other hand, 5vs5 the players are tuning our head coach out because of poor reaults and are "packing it in".
If that's the case, does our GM have a handle on anything that is going on within the organization? Is he too scared to fire the coach? Does he know his assistant coach he hired is being overruled and the our head coach has the ears of the players? But at the same time he has lost the players at 5vs5?
What a mess.
I was so pumped when the Leafs first hired Babcock. But you watch the games, look at the system and structure, how the coach treats the players and motivates them, do in game adjustments, line combos, and if he takes any responsibilities for loses. You look at this and form your own opinion. After observing his tenure here, I can’t wait for the Leafs to fire him. Cant be soon enough for this guy.I was one of the very few people left that believed he is going to turn around this team but I was wrong. I believe it's time for him to go. The team look disengaged, lost without any motivation
He's an irrelevant self entitled whiny bitch.... Nothing moreWho is Jeff Veillette and why do I care what he has to say?
I’m kind of flip flopping on Babcock. On the one hand, he makes some baffling decisions. On the other, I think maybe having half the cap on 4 forwards is an impossible position for the coach.
Sure, the Pens had some great years with their 4 highest paid players making almost as much as the leafs.
But that’s when Crosby was hands down the best player in the world, and Malkin not too close behind. The leafs forwards now just aren’t in any way comparable and dominant as what Crosby and Malkin were.
For this to work, the leafs stars would have to perform like Crosby/Malkin did, and like McDavid and Drai currently are. Complete domination. Being “great” simply isn’t good enough. They have to be the best. And they’re nowhere near that so far this season. And that leaves 50% of the cap for 20 other players, while our star players are no better than the other teams VASTLY cheaper star players.
