So Babcock needs to go... (Part 2)

Anyone who blames Dubas is literally clueless or just hasn’t been paying attention the past 4 years.

Despite massive roster turnover, we’re still having the same issues. Why is that? Babcock has taken zero accountability for our poor results. He has all the talent to work with in the world yet regularly throws everyone but himself under the bus despite being a significant factor in our failures.
 You can turn over as much as you want.. They keep replacing players with smaller, softer, and even more defensively inept ones so it won’t have the desired effect. That’s not Babcock’s fault.

Babcock might not be the guy for this group but he’s a good NHL coach. Kyle Dubas on the other hand, likely doesn’t get another job after this.

Muzzin trade and Kadri trade certainly shows he has courage. Shanahan might be stopping Dubas from firing Babcock.

I think he's a good GM but he's gotta fire Babcock. And if Shanahan doesn't let him do that, then maybe it's best if he lays down an ultimatum. This should be Dubas' team. Shanahan's interference is messed up

If Babcock is such a great coach why is this team such a trash fire defensively? They've actually been getting worse since dumping JVR and Bozak. Any time there's even a tiny bit of pressure on the breakout the D chip it up the boards, so predictably that it's turning into a giveaway more often than not. Predictable for the other team I mean, not for the Leafs winger for some reason.

What does Dave Hakstol do again? Why was he hired?

I DON’T KNOW WHO THE CULPRIT REALLY IS

lol @ babcock for not even trying to go for 4 points
im pretty sure Hutch coulda handle a tired Sharks team

Yeah... That would’ve been the deciding factor for me. The Sharks on the 2nd of a B2B takes away from his theory of going for the easy win and battling it out on the 2nd night imo.

Well guess what, we **** stomped them as expected and Freddy could’ve given us a huge shot in the game tonight.

This whole situation is hilarious.

Right after Babs signed here, a lot of comments on the threads about the signing said ”if the leafs start losing with Babcock then no one can say it’s the coaches fault.”

We’ve come a full circle on that (rightfully so tbh) but it’s just funny to think about.

Doesn’t have to be the coach’s fault to be the coach’s fault. If the players have tuned him out, that’s on them, but also his doing.

Well, our C at that time were Kadri, Bozak, Spaling(not even in the league anymore, Matthias, Goat and Willie. We didn’t have Matthews, even though we hope to draft him and JT-we hope to lure him via UFA.
can you honestly say that with Matthews, Marner, Willie, Kerfoot, Reilly, Muzzin, Barrie, Kap, JT and AJ, the Leafs is not a contender? If you tell me that the Leafs will have a 1-punch down the middle with JT and Matthews, Marner is a 90pts player, Willie is a 60pts player, while also have a third line of AJ-Kerfoot-Kap, all three are 40-50pts player with Reilly, Barrie and Muzzin as your top 3, two years ago, I will be saying there is no way Muzzin will leave Kings without a huge ransoms, JT will never leave the Islanders and who is Kerfoot?

The most staggering stat for me aside from his in game decisions are that this team is never, ever, ready to play. We've allowed the first goal in 10 of 13 games this season, and at what point does it fall on Babcock for not having these guys ready to play.

I highly doubt the players go into each game thinking they're going to take the first 10 minutes off.

So are they overthinking strategy? Are they not getting proper matchups? scouting reports?

Something isn't right with the way this team prepares and when you change both assistants and turn over half the roster from last year, at what point does it fall on the head coach?

Everyone looks at this roster as "soft" but there are an abundance of situations where the leafs player should take the body and the outcome of the play would be more favorable (whether that's rubbing a body out to create puck separation or bodying an attacking player at the blue line to break up their momentum). I put that on the coach and his play style. If I am wrong and it is just the players avoid physical contact every chance they get then this is a flawed roster. To me it looks like the players are being coached to play this way.

Regardless the IDGAF attitude that's been apparent since game 1 this year is alarming and that in itself is indicative of a coach that has lost his team.

His first few games here, Muzzin was flattening people.

I think it was his 4th game when he stepped up and drilled someone resulting in a 2 on 1 against. He pretty much stopped hitting after that game.

He'll rub people out, but he won't cough up positioning for the sake of a hit. That is 100% on the coach.

Well, the 17-18 Leafs got scored on first 32 times.

Last year’s version was behind first 40 times.

If the coach is the constant and we have player turnover... sort of falls on the players and/or the person that assembled the roster?

Babcock is not a problem. Real problem is that the Leafs are way too predictable. They don't have real shooters on wings. Just Mathews and Tavares at center. Teams adjust. And no power forwards to score at close range. And they have few people who are effective at taking the puck back after waterbugs lose it. Babcock can't compensate for all this.

At the time we had a dumpster fire roster. Now we got 5 elite guys. Massive difference

You were the first one to run down Kadri. He was the only one with some edge to him now its a soft team. Get your priorities straight lately? ;)

I didn’t notice his “edge” in the playoffs.

Does edge mean “suit” in some Gen Z vocab?

Because I saw that. I saw him in a suit in the playoffs.

Friday against San Jose they were ready, they did allow the 1st goal, but they totally outplayed them in the first period, but that may have been because San Jose was on their 2nd game of back to back. Starting on time has been a problem, but I don't think that is their biggest problem, the stars not showing up is.
