Hate to keep saying the same thing but this team is not nearly as good of a team without Buff and Ehlers . They both bring dimensions to this team that we don't have enough of . Buff with toughness , skill , bravado and Ehlers with speed and offense . I'm gonna wait to write this season off until i see a couple of games with both of them back in the lineup . By the way i like Niku but he's no Buff , look how bad Charoit was tonight . At least when Buff is playing he makes Charoit serviceable .

Seen this movie many times before across the whole league.

~20 games to go, team playing like crap going into the playoffs..all the "It's a new season" speeches by the players... etc. And it always results in an early playoff exit.

Feb 20th today.. if this team isn't playing like a contender by March 13th ( 3 weeks ) get the golf clubs out.

And I payed for my playoff tickets today... so I still have hope.

Thtas nor really the way I recall it last year. The Caps struggled for large chunks of the season and stil own the Cup. We still have as good a shot as any you guys. Sometimes a little adversity at this time of year can really help a team focus and sort it out before it really matters.

Hockey can be a weird sport when things aren’t going your way. Right now there is something going on with the team. No proper defensive system, no urgency in the forecheck, being beaten to the puck. Team needs to get back to the basics, different line combinations , maybe even a trade to shake things up. Hockey is very much a confidence sport and right now we seem to be lacking that. Good thing is this can be corrected. This team has too much talent but the coaching staff and players need to figure it out.

Well, not really. Maurice has stated numerous times that he doesn’t say much while letting the vets guide the younger players and providing leadership.

What a gutless man! This is our leader? What a joke. No wonder he found his way to the friggin KHL.

Jets needed something to snap them out of this funk and rut. I wonder if this lambasting will refocus them, and maybe finally get Maurice to shake things up.

If I were the coach I'd do this...

Split up Scheifele and Wheeler. They have become way to complacent and comfortable focusing on being the offensive leaders of the team. They need to be given different responsibilities with different linemates. Maybe pair them again when Ehlers returns.

Bench a defenseman after that performance. Morrissey, Myers and Chiarot were the worst performers. Morrissey gets a pass, so it's either Chiarot or Myers. I'd lean toward benching Myers for Poolman, mainly because I think it would have the biggest impact.

Screw the Buff excuse, that is fodder. We suck and whatever we think Buff can provide is not gonna be enough to get us out of the lull if you prefer to call it that. I think it maybe worse than a lull myself.

Your right. Everyone keeps talking about how “deep” we are. We are down Ehlers and Buff. If we were so deep we should have been able to absorb that will minimal pain but this goes beyond a short bench. This is now a culture and coaching issue. I don’t think getting one of them back now changes much

It's stupid combinations. The top six have never clicked simultaneously for a single stretch this season. Either one's going or neither.
