Jets 5 on 5 goal differential drops down to only a +2 on the season.

xGoals Avs 64.23% - Jets 35.77%

Corsi Avs 58.56% - Jets 41.44%

Outcorsied and outscorsied.

What were the raw numbers for the xGoals both ways? Like obviously being out performed by a 2-1 margin is bad news, but a world lies between (say) 2-1 and 8-4.

A few concerning things about our potential first-round opponents:

- Avs: in the last 2 games that we’ve played against them, they have 80 shots and 11 goals. They clearly have our number this year.

- Wild: they clearly have our number as well this year.

-Blackhawks: why do I want to avoid playing this team at all costs in the first round? Something about playing a red-hot Chicago team sporting the likes of Patrick Kane & Jonathan Toews in the playoffs concerns me.

2 weeks ago, I would’ve said we could handle any of these teams in the first round round, no problem. Not anymore.

Jets need to go out and party together in Vegas to bond, get a good night's sleep and play like demons next game.

You seem to be assuming we’re going to finish 1st. It’s much more likely we play Stl first round at this rate

  • Some of you guys need to step off the ledge, please. Some notes on individual players and systems.
  • Not a lot of good an extra day or two of rest did, as Avs visually were faster as the Jets continued to give up odd man rushes and breakaway after breakaway. Unfortunately, your worst offenders were Scheifele, Wheeler, and Trouba. That resulted in breaking up the first line, which has been well over due for a while. Regardless, once Ehlers returns, the actual top line should return and hopefully in form - the Jets are sorely missing speed, especially on zone entries as the Jets try to chip and dump past (though as I watch the third period, I see several carries across the blue line by our younger players - Roslovic, Connor, etc. Clear difference in hustle, it seems.
  • Significant amount of penalty trouble led to a significant amount of penalty killing trouble, as Avs finally cracked the Jets during their power play but have quickly, Myers especially having a pretty rough game. I'm not sure the instruction given to him specifically, because it's a mix of trying to be the body between his goalie and the opponent, or going out into space and trying to use his long stick to block passes over the 'royal road' (across the slot) - but then he can't figure out when to use either effectively and constantly lost against his man in front as they pounded on Hellebuyck from up close and got beat on said passes. Teams have figured out the structure to get in closer, it seems.
  • Speaking of the power play, there was a new wrinkle introduced with Wheeler controlling the puck below the goal-line to try and get more space, and then didn't know what to do with it once he got to the other side as he and Laine played give-and-go for a bit. Then, when he actually had time to make the pass to Laine, he tried to make the pass the most perfect ever for Laine's blessing, allowing the Avs player to catch up from behind and interfere with Laine's follow-thru on probably the best chance he had. Too much talent being wasted here right now. Interestingly enough, Scheifele has become an incredible non-factor unlike his godly performance in the area during last year's playoffs.
  • Those line combos were pretty garbage even though we only got to see them for like 5 minutes considering everyone else got into penalty trouble. Would've been nice if say, they had time to practice playing with those particular players beforehand instead of just throwing it in a line blender as it goes.
  • Shout out to Sami Niku, offense creator on both sides of the nice tonight. He played well in his limited ice time and got just about even in terms of CF% while Kulikov and Myers were absolutely drowning (and Chiarot when he got extra minutes).
  • Hellebuyck has been left out to dry and couldn't get every bounce as he tried to keep the Jets in the game up to the third period, and the defense got worse and worse in front of him

Chief's final ear-test says: Sportsnet can't talk about anything other than Laine, eh? At least we got to see he wasn't the problem on the ice tonight - not by a long shot.

Chief's final eyetest says: Jets clearly aren't as good as their record but some of you are way too quick to consider this a rotten-to-the-core team. They're dealing with two major injuries (Ehlers, Buff) and clearly play up (and down) to their competition. Call it what you want, a coaching problem or motivation problem or whatever, but don't call it "the worst team ever iced by the Winnipeg Jets" - lay off the over exaggerations, please.

Everyone wanted the Jets to have a shitty game so Maurice could 'see the Jets for what they really were' and make changes before it was too late, and now they put up a real stinker just like everyone wished for, and everyone is clamoring for the team to blow it up, trade everyone, fire everyone, etc. Make up your minds.

Are they this bad? Probably not. Are they world-beaters deserving to be at the top of the standings? Probably not, either. So it goes, people.

The Jets have literally ruined my 2019 so far, every other night I watch their games and more often than not go to bed pissed off and in a bad mood. :(
I’m the same way. Just have to stop caring so much....just not worth it for these guys.

We can’t even beat Ottawa, how are we even getting past any of the above teams??

Jets: 2.29 - Avs: 4.81 in all situations

Jets 1.81 - Avs: 3.25 at 5 on 5

It is rare for a team to get beaten by 1+ xGoal at 5 on 5.

Cool, I was wondering where those numbers came from. Yeah, MoneyPuck is a great source. I use it when I've got some free plays at the local sports book to burn.

The Jets suck

Maybe it's just me and it's hitting me oddly, but there's really something sad about that .gif, you know? Hard to put my finger on. Like, maybe it was a set up, yeah? Who is recording a young kid playing with a new toy like that for the first time? But on the other hand, I can all but feel his disappointment and sadness from off camera. I dunno. Might be time for some Midol.

I'm confident we'll see a different team come playoff time. Tonight wasn't their night, and it sure sounds like it felt awful to play this game. We'll see them improve (from front to back) going forward, I'm confident of it.
