No but even on the open market. ~30g 70-80 pt players are getting what these days? 8-9m?Nope that is good value but do u think he’d sign long term at that?

Exactly.Good point - and if I read this right, your point is the D are not good enough to allow our O to free wheel.
Is that what you are driving at?
Despite the fact that they were 1-2 in the same draft, I don’t think it’s fair to compare Matthews to Laine. Sure, he’s scoring more now but Matthews’ defensive game is regressing while Laine’s is improving. Frankly, Laine having the rookie season he had was both a major blessing and a major curse. It set expectations too high for a teenager and it was the bar he was always going to be compared against. He is a very good player at 21 who is a PPG with a steadily improving defensive game. Of course you pay those guys. He’s quite literally the least of the Jets’ problems.Goals win games.
He is paid to score that is the 'big laine' stat.
Auston Matthews has 31
Enough said!
I'd sign him for 8mil but I thought he wanted Marner Mathews tier money of 11 mil? And can you tell me that he is good value for more than 10 mil?No but even on the open market. ~30g 70-80 pt players are getting what these days? 8-9m?
Very few players are good value for over 10 million. Including Marner and Matthews.I'd sign him for 8mil but I thought he wanted Marner Mathews tier money of 11 mil? And can you tell me that he is good value for more than 10 mil?
Well he's not putting up point totals like either of those guys. And he's still rates poorly defensively (although better than last year, but then again the bar was so low)I'd sign him for 8mil but I thought he wanted Marner Mathews tier money of 11 mil? And can you tell me that he is good value for more than 10 mil?
I like Paul Simon.
That’s all I got, this thread is way too predictable anyway.
He should really consider a career in politics after this. (Hopefully sooner than later)Maurice made sure to mention a couple times that we won the zone time game.
Chalk up another 2 points for us!

I would agree that a high pick this year and try to regroup next year is probably the right move at this point. It’s amazing that a new coach combined with the drive to be better after a very poor season is frequently enough for a good bounce back. That plus the Byfuglien situation being resolved is about the best case scenario here. But it’s pretty clear that this season should be a write off at this point. How about some ideas to reload this team for next year. Teams do it all the time. Take the down year. A good pick and make some moves in the offseason.
Which means play the young guys and get rid of the dead wood.I would agree that a high pick this year and try to regroup next year is probably the right move at this point. Well... yeah. But that would be the right move either way.Which means play the young guys and get rid of the dead wood.
