Goals win games.
He is paid to score that is the 'big laine' stat.
Auston Matthews has 31
Enough said!
Despite the fact that they were 1-2 in the same draft, I don’t think it’s fair to compare Matthews to Laine. Sure, he’s scoring more now but Matthews’ defensive game is regressing while Laine’s is improving. Frankly, Laine having the rookie season he had was both a major blessing and a major curse. It set expectations too high for a teenager and it was the bar he was always going to be compared against. He is a very good player at 21 who is a PPG with a steadily improving defensive game. Of course you pay those guys. He’s quite literally the least of the Jets’ problems.

No but even on the open market. ~30g 70-80 pt players are getting what these days? 8-9m?
I'd sign him for 8mil but I thought he wanted Marner Mathews tier money of 11 mil? And can you tell me that he is good value for more than 10 mil?

Well he's not putting up point totals like either of those guys. And he's still rates poorly defensively (although better than last year, but then again the bar was so low)

I like Paul Simon.

That’s all I got, this thread is way too predictable anyway.

This is pretty much the same PGT on every Teams board after every loss.

Fire everyone.

Has Sip been posting lately?

Jets defense is catching up with them now. Kulikov's was one of the worst FA signings they ever made.

Every other team knows the Jets wingers will be standing still, backed up towards their own corners. Mau's system = harder to get it out.

The players didnt really play with a sense of urgency. A coaching change might help that too.

Back from this one -- and not a lot to add to what's been posted. I think we over-achieved as a team in some key ways early on, which has given us a chance for the playoffs. But today the team looked tired and defeated from the first whistle, especially the forwards, with sloppy plays and miscommunication all over the ice. Maybe we bounce back and steal a few more but the momentum isn't with us atm, and short of a miraculous Buff return to get us over the hump it's going to be a dogfight from here on.

Maurice made sure to mention a couple times that we won the zone time game.
Chalk up another 2 points for us!

How about some ideas to reload this team for next year. Teams do it all the time. Take the down year. A good pick and make some moves in the offseason.

I would agree that a high pick this year and try to regroup next year is probably the right move at this point. It’s amazing that a new coach combined with the drive to be better after a very poor season is frequently enough for a good bounce back. That plus the Byfuglien situation being resolved is about the best case scenario here. But it’s pretty clear that this season should be a write off at this point.

Shutout 3 times at home in half a season. With the Jets vaunted offense? Pretty bad. Even NHL trump is slagging them on twitter.

Which means play the young guys and get rid of the dead wood.
