God-awful mistakes as we smash our faces against a wall over and over again, repeating the errors of the past. Slafkovsky is already well on his way down the path of Kotkaniemi and Galchenyuk, as I stated; in five years, he'll be despised and reframed as a talentless bust with a terrible work-ethic or other character issues by this fanbase.

Pleased to hear this. What can you say? Arber flat out earned a 9 game or so look, nobody else outplayed him for the spot. I doubt he will stay up for that long and believe he would benefit from learning in Laval but he deserved a short stint with the big club to start the season, playing some games here will only motivate him to get back when/if he goes to Laval and if there is one player who seems to be self motivated it's this kid. Harris I'm not so sure of, he really isn't ready yet IMO but what the hell, we are gonna be bad anyway, it's nothing that will hurt us to have him play a few games too. Slafkovsky staying up for a look I like also, you can see he is learning the game already and getting more comfortable, as the number one overall I think him at least not getting a shot and seeing just what the NHL game is possibly could hurt him mentally, let's see how he reacts to the show. If it's just not working out he goes to Laval, but he needs to be given a chance. Guhle? no sense in sending that guy down, would have been stupid I think. You would just have a guy in Laval saying to himself...... " what the f*** am I down here for?, I was one of the better d-men they had and I know I can play in that league" and he would be right, he will have some rough stretches but his physical tools and skill set will see him through safely.

I disagree about him being solid. Hopefully he heads to Laval when we are healthy.
Seems counterintuitive to hope that Harris returns to Laval. You should be hoping that he proves you wrong and that by his play the team needs to keep him. If he is returned to Laval who are you hoping will replace him? Unless we obtain a viable asset on defence by trade, any defenceman that will replace Harris, will be at best a stopgap measure. Harris is part of our future. Let’s hope he sticks. I think he will.

Spending a season in Erie, Pennsylvania, some of that blue-collar ethic could have rubbed off on him.

Nope I'd rather him have bigger minutes than 3rd pair time. One of Matheson/Edmundson will replace him.

Slaf will get an extended look against NHL players and if he doesn’t look the part, they’ll send him to Laval. This is a new front office, stop associating them with Bergevin’s mistakes and inability to develop players. Saying they’ll ruin him because he starts the year in Montreal is a horrible take.

Slaf guhle Xhekaj and Harris were brought together into a room and told together they had made the team. Msl did it on purpose like this so they would know they had made it.

He also told them with competition for spots any of them might be sent down at any time.

I think/hope they get that slaf needs time and they just have him to get some games while the vets recover.

I don't really agree with the decision.

Guhle I feel he earned his spot.

Xhekaj I'm on the fence about. Felt he needed to solidify parts of his game. I would have sent him down.

Slaf I tend to agree because he kept getting better and better. My only worry is if he goes on a prolonged scoreless streak.

Harris, I was also on the fence about. I don't want to see him play as a 7th D. He needs ice time in the pros.

There's nothing I'm completely against, but it will really depend on deployment. I felt the guys they used to keep in the last (Fleury, Juulsen, Mete,KK) looked worse and needed more time. It could have worked though, if they handled their struggles better. We'll see. I'm giving management a clean slate until they show they're not worth the trust.

Is that you Shane?
Rushing prospects who are manifestly unprepared to play in the NHL, watching them get injured, lose confidence, get bounced around the lineup and then declared to "never have been good at all" (though that's more true for Slaf than either of our previous, superior high-end prospects).

Yeah, I'm Shane Wright.

Neither our fanbase nor management learns. Look back to the slavering exuberance surrounding Chucky and Kotkaniemi - that's where we are with Slaf as we ruin what little potential he actually has by playing him in the wrong league for his development.

Edmundson will replace either Xhekaj or Harris. I would have kept Leskinen over Harris only because the yoiunger player should not be the 7th D, and that's what I think Harris is if Matheson plays. Kovacevic is ahead of him in my mind, but we will soon see the guy play up close.

Do we know if they've all actually made the team or are just starting in the NHL due to injuries? I would like it a lot more if slaf gets a taste of the NHL for a couple weeks then goes down to the AHL when someone is back. He can work on his game and come back up at the deadline when vets are traded. Same for X.

Guhle I think is ready for showtime and will spend the whole year on the habs.

It would be silly to proclaim that they've permanently made the team.

They've made it for opening day. That's all we can say right now.

He's not in the wrong league, no more so than Thornton, Lecavalier, Stamkos, Tavares, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Hischier, Hughes, Lafreniere.

These guys started on the third line (fourth for Thornton) and progressed by playing against the best.

Slaf can handle 3rd line duties right now, that was clear from the games so far where he was really only outplayed by 3 wingers (Caufield, Gallagher, Anderson).

Let's avoid slobbering exuberance and let the guy start his NHL development.

I expect he will go to Laval when Edmundson returns to get ice time and develop

So Matheson will start on Wednesday. Cap friendly has him as a scratch not injured reserve.

You don't put people who are day-to-day on IR unless you know for sure it's at least 7 days.

He could be ready Wednesday, or not.

Ok… How does this “nobody cares if habs win a single game, play the kids tons and draft high” scenario compare with the situation those 2 came up in? They were fighting for icetime with vets and were not put in learning situations at all.
