Why is this "Sutter won't play rookies" meme even alive still?

It's baffling! First it was Nolan and King, then it was Toffoli and Pearson, since there's been Andreoff, Shore...

Sutter plays rookies! In key situations!

Pearson had a rough night. Brown had a rough night (WTF has happened to his hands?). I had Clifford in the FGOTG, and while he wasn't first, he almost scored a beauty, and looked good all night... better even than his great effort in 2010, maybe (?... the Sharks series Kopitar's foot was in a cast).

Saturday should be a better one.

The sharks stars dominated the kings stars. That is why the Kings lost. You can complain about Schenn and Scuderi, but the Kings lost because Kopitar could not stop Pavelski from getting to the front of the net and he took a terrible penalty to give the Sharks momentum and a goal.

When you get a goal from Muzzin and Lewis, the Kings should not lose the game. Disappointing.

Toffoli, Carter and Doughty all minus 2 last night.

I more so think when the other team has not 1 but 2 own goals you need to find a way to make them pay.

LA was lucky to be in the in this one. Need to step up the tempo next game. Felt like San Jose was in control for much more of the game then the score dictates..well at least through 2 periods (the 3rd is kinda a drunken blur for me).

If Martinez can not play in the top 4 than I hope McBain or Gravel are in. I know Gravel is in Ontario but he could be recalled right?

Does Scuderi ever not dump the puck into the corner? Down by a goal and only have a few minutes left and he dumps it into the corner where none of our guys were instead of throw it on net where pretty much all our forwards were. sigh.
And Schenn just looked unable to compete, constantly getting beat, and wasn't even as physical as we had hoped.
Gravel or McBain please, and I pray the hockey gods heal Marty.

I'm happy someone else noticed that. Just an awful play, gave up possession of the puck when the team was buzzing.

I was a huge Schenn believer and thought he would thrive under Daryl..I have been very very disappointed.

I will say given it was his first playoff game I liked McNabb. He will be under great pressure with Martinez banged up.

In the 6 games between the Kings and Sharks this year:

Pavelski - 6G, 6A, 12Pts
Burns - 5G, 4A, 9Pts
Thornton - 3G, 5A, 8Pts

Carter - 3G, 3A, 6Pts
Toffoli - 3G, 2A, 5Pts
Lucic - 1G, 3A, 4Pts
Pearson - 0G, 4A, 4Pts
Lecavalier - 3G, 0A, 3Pts
Doughty - 1G, 2A, 3Pts
Brown - 0G, 3A, 3Pts
Lewis - 2G, 0A, 2Pts
Muzzin - 1G, 1A, 2Pts
Kopitar - 0G, 2A, 2Pts

That's 14G, 15A, and 29Pts from those 3 Sharks, and 14G, 20A, and 34Pts from those 10 Kings. Burns has more points than Doughty, Muzzin, and Martinez combined.

Oh **** me, please

Kings played like royal garbage--and credit the Sharks for a lot of that--and STILL were within a post, bounce, or last-minute frenzy hitting the net of tying it up and breaking the Sharks in OT. And I've been a pessimist!

I was thinking the same. The team was close even though they played like crap. That's a big positive for me.

I was trying to think that way but we cannot bank on two lucky goals (maybe one depending on how you view the muzzin goal). The score was a lot closer than it should have been.

Would be a major improvement if this team learned how to defend against Pavelski and Burns. It's ridiculous how soft the Kings are at defending against the opposition's top players. Like the number of times Corey Perry made the Kings look silly over the past few years because they constantly leave him unattended in front of Quick. Wish this team would grow a pair between now and Saturday.

I was at last nights game. I think you guys are over reacting a bit. I thought the team played hard, at least the forwards. Our defense is truly awful, but hopefully Sutter finally adjusts. But it was clear to me the effort was there. The Sharks just had a phenomenal night. Besides, everyone knows the Kings like to settle into series a bit.

Kopi was okay. Had some good defensive plays, had a lot of possession, but made a few key mistakes that cost us.

Lucic, Carter were great. Toffoli was okay. Pearson could be better. Wish gabby would come back soon.

Lecavlier was whatever. Not great not terrible. But I never want him on the ice with Scuderi.

CLifford, Andreoff and Vertseeg were amazing. I wish they continue to be a line because they are great.

King has been playing terrible for about 3 months now. Lewis was really good though.

Brown continues to be a great defensive forward and thats it.

Doughty was amazing, as was Muzzin. Muzzin looked like a mini Karlsson out there sometimes.

Martinez I didn't really notice. McNabb was pretty good. Scuderi was horrifying. He needs to be cut, he cannot play anymore

Schenn was not terrible I think. He just needs a partner who can move the puck, or at least has the confidence to move the puck.

Quick was god like.

If I'm confident about anything, its that Quick will be great and Sutter will make adjustments.

Schenn had Muzzin as his partner, Schenn was terrible. If he's not going to block the shot, get out of the way so Quick can see it.

kings are 8 & 20 in series where they lose the 1st game. I don't see how "everyone knows the kings like to settle in"

I thought Pearson was pretty good. His passes (like a lot guys) were slightly off. people seemed to have issues finding Lucic last night.

McNabb I think was better than pretty good as it was his first playoff game. I agree with you on the 4th line, and Lewis.

Quick was not "god like", he had an .826 SP. He made a lot of good initial saves that were the result of the sharks making some good cross ice plays. However his rebound control was not where it usually is, and he got burned on two wrap arounds (Pavelski's goal and Doughty's save). hardly god like.

I agree that Quick will rebound.

This game would have been a lot like Game 1 of 2014 if it weren't for Quick. Top line needs to pick it up (including Muzzin), the loss was on them.

You mentioned 6 Forwards.

If it wasn't for Quick, it could have been 6 goals instead of 4. He made brilliant saves, and the only goal I felt he had a chance on was the Pavelski goal.

Its clear to me that although he let up 4, he is keyed in right now.

it basically was..refs blew done a sharks would be goal, and LA got two lucky bounces.

You mentioned 6 Forwards.

Voynov and Muzzin were rookies who broke out under Sutter. You could make a claim for McNabb as well given his lack of experience in Buffalo.

There just haven't been many great options beyond them given how Forbort has been a major disappointment. I hope at some point they look at having Gravel in the lineup because Scuderi looks like he's done.

God Like and .826 do not go together. In no way am I saying the goals were his fault..but he was not god like. When Quick is god like he finds ways to stop everything. we have seen it, and will see it again

I wish Gravel would have been giving a longer look in the season. Hard to toss him in in the playoffs, but I would not oppose it

Brown was at least throwing some nice hits.
They need to deal with Pavelski and Vlasic. There were so many times where I was just screaming "Hit them!" and then they'd skate right by them. They had one good check on Vlasic, they need to be hitting him hard literally every time he's on the ice. And please for the love of god someone just nail Burns and Pavelski

No one wants to admit the Sharks got some bounces too though because it doesn't fit the "we got blown out" narrative. Burns shot off schenn, puck bouncing around in front to Hertl, Pavelski goal off a horrible penalty call bounced and changed speeds...no luck for the Sharks, all luck for the Kings.
